The black 360 is coming

Recommended Posts

It's not replacing the premium so why would they give you a more expensive model?

Most extended warranties for small electronics simply give you the value of the item rather than a replacement. They're different than those for comptuers and TVs and the like where you get it repaired or replaced.

Engadget pretty much confirmed it, with more details...seems like the black 360 is just a limited edition, then that hardware will be integrated into white 360s...

We've confirmed with trusted sources that the black Xbox 360 is indeed coming (the image above is of the original 360 dev kit, FYI), and will be dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite. Here's what you need to know about it:

* The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand.

* The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.

* Elite will cost $479, and will be a 3rd SKU; it will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.

* Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.

* We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall.

* Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips.

* Prices may remain the same with the 120GB / HDMI hardware upgrade in the Premium Xbox, but we may still see a price cut on the line when 65nm chips start shipping.

* The HD DVD drive will not be internal or bundled -- Microsoft never did or nor does not currently have plans to put an HD DVD drive in the 360.

* There are no current plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premiums (although that can always change).

13 then. Same thing lol.

not ready...

Anyways, tbh, as long as the bigger HDD is released for older consoles, and the IPTV thing works on older consoles, it doesn't bother me.

IPTV is part of the fall update AFAIK and the only thing recomended is a bigger HDD if you're planning on using the PVR features...

As I said in the past about this "rumour", this is kinda annoying so soon in the consoles lifespan. I'd expect a full on redesign around the 4/5 year mark like all of the playstation's released so far.

Now I'm still glad I got my 360 rather than waiting for the new 65mm models because I've had 4 months of decent gaming that I wouldn't have otherwise had(PC Gaming BLOWS atm) but it's annoying because my TV only accepts 1080p via HDMI and VGA. The VGA lead is currently pretty poor at colours so I was looking forward to an HDMI cable for the 360. Now I'd have to trade in my 360 if I wanted HDMI. Its not a biggy but it still winds me up none the less.

I won't bother purchasing this unless my current 360 dies and I get a dodgy refurbished one back from MS.

I knew it would happened, I called it when Gears was released to pre-orders on November 7th. No one has believe me, but here it is. Well, I can't say I'm happy that we can't get rid of our regular 360's for the "elite"..ah.

not ready...

Does that near enough confirm at least a bigger HDD is in the works? lol.

Hopefully, the IPTV thing will be available on ISP's other than BT (in the UK). Because atm, we can't get cable where I live, and w can't get freeview either (free digital terrestrial for those who don't know). We have got freesat (free satellite) but it would be too much fuss to change the LNB and feed a cable from the dish to my room, so IPTV is the only realy option atm for digital TV in my room. So I hope we won't need to be on BT ISP for that.

And if I can get it without being with BT, then I would definataly use the PVR functions (as atm, cos the sky box only has one tuner, you can't watch one channel and record another).

3 skus? They should dump core already and introduce this! (Y)

That's what going to happen.

It'll be 3 SKU's -- Core, Premium and Elite edition. Elite edition is limited time only. After that, the Core I would guess would of been dropped, Premium moved down to Core and Elite moved to Premium. And I would guess that both SKU's will have two colours.

Nice. Soon they'll be releasing consoles as fast as video cards, and then you'll be as broke as us! haha....! HA! .... :|

k maybe not.

Well, people who are bitching, what do u care? most of you don't have an hdtv to use hdmi. go back and continue playing xbox360 on your wooden RCA bigbox

Like it's been said, this is limited edition only, the hardware and bigger hdd will then be put inside the newer Premium units made after the Elite has shipped, but they'll be the same white color. And everyone should've been expecting the bigger HDD to come out for older 360s, it's just logical, only way for IPTV and the Video marketplace to work how it should.

The only thing is the HDMI, but it says an HDMI cable will ship with it and it will have HDMI output, but is this just a bonus HDMI port plus the one it has now? or just HDMI only? Or is it the same port but with a new HDMI cable and HDMI output turned on with a software update (like they did with 1080p)?

We still need more details, so until the official info from MS hits, it's best to just wait. I see the 20GB hdds being stopped though, once they sell out and the core as we know it is over, then the bigger ones will replace them. Just have to see what the price is.

    • Ninja Theory's new Hellblade game is action-focused and set in Purgatory by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Ninja Thery has been building its award-winning Hellblade series since 2017, delivering Senua's Sacrifice and Senua's Saga since then. Today at the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, the studio had a brand-new installment announcement featuring Senua again, but this time, she is in a version of purgatory, and the focus is on the action. Simply named Senua, this new entry is described as a "full-on action-adventure" experience, delivering an expanded focus on combat, puzzle-solving, and freedom of exploration. The developer says that it is keeping the same high production values and storytelling features of the previous games while giving what players have been asking for in the gameplay department. The entirety of Ninja Theory is now working on Senua, giving the project much more manpower than ever before, while also letting the team draw on its action roots from Devil May Cry and prior titles. However, the studio also confirmed that its previously announced Project Mara horror experience is no longer in development. Alongside snappier traversal moves, Senua will be able to take stealth and direct combat routes. She has access to her own sword, plus any enemy weapons as well, with dual wielding also being an option for most dropped melee swords, axes, and other weapons. Outside of melee combat, Senua will be able to use special abilities that let her alter the reality around her. The world is said to be about twice the size of Hellblade 2. While this won't be an open-world experience, the linear story will let players explore their surroundings further than before. The story of Senua will be set after the events of previous Hellblade titles, with our protagonist being stuck in her own version of Purgatory. The series' well-explored psychosis themes will return as well. "She’s trapped between life and death on a quest to reach the afterlife and be reunited with the ones that she’s loved and lost," adds the studio. "Her belief is that by healing the wounds of her life, she can find the peace that is the key that unlocks the gate to the afterlife." Senua is releasing on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2027.
    • Windows has had it, it's called camera frame server. I recall when it was first introduced in an early Windows 10 release it caused issues and there was a registry entry to disable it. Seems like they disabled it by default at some point. Windows 11 brought that toggle to the settings app (not just registry) a while ago.
    • You didn't like Mafia The Definite Edition? As a fan of the first when it came out, I liked that remake.
