Gearbox Reveals New FPS Called "Borderlands"

Recommended Posts

The coop in this game is fail because it doesn't work worth crap. I have NEVER had to forward ports on my router for ANY game ever until borderlands. What the hell kind of modern game, especially a coop based one doesn't support upnp? Seriously. Half my friends cant get the game to be able to host games at all.

Also if you are not in the exact same part of the game as the other person all your missions say "ineligible" I am only a few levels ahead of most of my friends and I couldn't do any missions with them. Things like this should have been taken into consideration, You cant be expected to always make sure you are at the same progress through the game as all your friends.

Well if your friends have a router then it's fair to assume they know a thing or two about computers, like opening ports.

This game could obviously do well with some improvements or additions, like UPNP support that you've mentioned, but overall it's a pretty nice game.

After having this game for a little while now, I can honestly say I am addicted to this game. I can't really speak for the PC players since I'm playing it on the 360, but this is the most surprisingly fun game I've played so far this year. The party system/jump-in jump-out system works so smoothly and I'm so OCD with leveling up my character. Great, great game.

I beat the game last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. Ended up at level 36 with about 39 hours of playtime. I have not been able to finish an RPG in years, but this one kept me hooked. Not only that, I've already gone back for my second playthrough. I actually want to get all the achievements for this game. It's going to be a challenge to get to level 50, but I can't pull myself away from Borderlands. This is my sleeper hit of the year for sure.

Whats everyones favorite class so far? I have been playing as Lilith (or whatever her name is) and while Phasewalk is definitely nice for getting around some enemies without being seen I have not found her very good in my own opinion. Are there any class that just tears enemies up or does the game rely that much on gear?

The game is a lot more gear focused than hero focused. The skills do make a difference to some extent, but its all about the gear you pick up.

i played hunter up till 23, then started on lilith. Im now 29 with lilith, and she can tear through people just fine. I specced into elemental first, and have found some good weps to make it easy. The hunter does a lot of damage to mobs , especially with his bird.

I love being a support soldier. I regenerate ammo for myself and other players at all times, and my turret heals and revives team members.

Plus my shotguns are pretty bad ass.

I have a question about weapons. Right now, I've sacrificed all of my normal powerful weapons for elemental weapons. Elemental weapons tend to be weaker in damage, but do the elementals make up for them?

Is this a bad thing? Other 4-player coop games like Left 4 Dead don't have any story at all

I had the expectations this would be kind of like Fallout before buying, as in there would be a good reason to still play it on your own even although it has Co-Op.

Everyone's expectations of L4D are multiplayer/co-op only.

So yes it was a bad thing for me, but hey that might just be related to my expectations. I'm a big story guy, so thinking it would have something decent then it not is always going to disappoint me a little :p

Started a soldier last night, got up to level 10 and found a heavy machine gun which is just amazing, kills bandits in a few shots each. Must say the turrent is very nice, as I am playing solo I opted to not bother with the medic tree any but the turrent is great, I can drop it around a boss fight and it helps a ton.

I did the first few missions of my second playthrough last night with 3 buddies and holy crap it was awesome. Every enemy is a lot tougher and they even have different names Bad Mutha Scag lol. I think I'm gonna enjoy this playthrough even more than my first. :D

But l4d's coop actually works

What's wrong with the coop? I played for over 9 hours (all coop) this past weekend and it was amazing. Who would have thought it would be this easy to join somebody over the internet and play seamlessly with friends in an RPG game!

BTW, can someone explain the weapon colors to me? What happens if I find an orange weapon?

It doesn't support upnp, half my friends don't know how to forward ports properly and end up not being able to host or join properly. its a mess. i can't think of ANY other recent game thats forced me to forward my ports. Its especially dumb because this was heavily marketed as a coop game. it should just work.

Also if someone with even a ~5 level gap hosts a game in my experience so far i've been ineligible for half the damn missions. I expected better and just think its been implemented pretty poorly. The only way it really works is if you and your friends manage to stay at the exact same level and game progress all the time.

I still find the game decent on single player but nothing special and there is no story at all, when coop works right it is pretty cool but it needs a lot of work.

Ah, you are on PC, very sorry indeed. I've been speaking from the console standpoint and it has been amazing. Not really sure what you are talking about with the level gap. For instance I was playing with a level 31 and level 18 while I was around level 12 when they helped me with the Sludge guy. Everything worked just fine and we had a bunch of options on what to do.

    • Google reportedly set to lose two key Gemini and DeepMind researchers to Anthropic by Karthik Mudaliar Google is reportedly preparing to lose two more prominent artificial intelligence researchers, with Gemini contributors Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel planning to join rival AI developer Anthropic. According to a report from Bloomberg, both researchers are viewed internally as important contributors to Google’s flagship Gemini model family. Adler worked on Google’s AI coding efforts, while Pritzel was involved in the process used to train AI systems. Neither company has publicly confirmed the moves. The report also does not say when the researchers will formally leave Google or what positions they will hold at Anthropic. Training a large AI model requires decisions covering its architecture, data preparation, distributed computing infrastructure, and post-training methods that shape how the finished system behaves. Researchers with experience operating at the scale of Gemini are consequently difficult to replace quickly. Both Adler and Pritzel have previously contributed to Google DeepMind’s scientific research as well. They are listed among the authors of the company’s work on expanding AlphaFold protein-structure predictions across entire proteomes, alongside AlphaFold researchers including John Jumper. The reported departures arrive shortly after another important change within Google’s Gemini organization. Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving Google for OpenAI, after returning to the search company in 2024 through its deal with Character.AI. Shazeer is particularly well known as one of the authors of the Transformer paper, whose architecture became the foundation for most modern large language models. Anthropic, meanwhile, has been recruiting recognizable figures from other leading laboratories. OpenAI co-founder and former Tesla AI director Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic’s pre-training team in May. His move, followed by the reported recruitment of several Google researchers, suggests Anthropic is strengthening the research teams responsible for the core capabilities of future Claude models rather than concentrating solely on product and enterprise sales. The competition is complicated by the companies’ extensive commercial relationships. Anthropic competes directly with Google’s Gemini models, but it also relies on Google as an infrastructure partner. In April, Anthropic announced an expanded agreement with Google and Broadcom covering multiple gigawatts of next-generation Tensor Processing Unit capacity. • Google adds built-in computer control to Gemini 3.5 flash by Karthik Mudaliar Google has added Computer Use as a built-in tool in Gemini 3.5 Flash, giving developers a single model that can reason about a task and operate graphical interfaces across browsers, mobile devices, and desktop environments. The feature is available through the Gemini API and Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, although it remains a preview feature for now. Computer Use enables an AI agent to examine screenshots and return actions such as mouse clicks, scrolling, and keyboard input. A developer’s application must execute those actions, capture the resulting screen, and send it back to Gemini, creating a continuous loop until the task is completed. Google says the integration can be used for activities including repetitive form filling, application testing, research across multiple websites, and longer enterprise workflows. Gemini 3.5 Flash can work with browser, mobile, and desktop environments, whereas Google’s earlier standalone Computer Use model was primarily positioned around browser interaction. The main change is consolidation. Computer control was previously offered through the separate Gemini 2.5 Computer Use preview model. As Neowin reported when that model was introduced, it was designed to interpret a visual interface and generate actions without requiring a website-specific API. Google later brought Computer Use to preview versions of Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash in January 2026. The latest release now incorporates the tool into the stable Gemini 3.5 Flash model rather than requiring developers to select a specialized model solely for interface automation. Gemini 3.5 Flash itself was announced in May as Google’s latest fast model for coding and multi-step agent workflows. It supports a one-million-token input context window and up to 65,000 output tokens, along with adjustable thinking levels that let developers trade additional reasoning for lower latency and cost. Google also added that Gemini 3.5 Flash received targeted adversarial training for computer-use scenarios. The company is also offering safeguards that can require user confirmation before sensitive or irreversible actions and automatically stop a workflow when suspected prompt injection is detected. Its developer documentation describes configurable protections for areas such as financial transactions and changes to sensitive records. Google isn't the first to bring Computer Use to its platform. Anthropic has made computer control available through Claude, while OpenAI has continued improving computer-use performance in its recent models. Microsoft has also applied the concept to business workflows, including a Computer Use capability for the Researcher agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
    • After I installed KB5095093, the volume on my ARM laptop won't go above 20%. It's stuck on the hearing protection level, which is pretty much useless if you want to listen to anything. I rolled back.
