Neowin's Top Hosts

Question

I've created this sticky thread for members to post their hosts that they use for their website. Clearly, we arent really looking here for the free hosts- geocities, lycos etc - rather the ones you pay for. We want to know about your good and bad expierences, how reliable they have been, how flexable on bandwidth, and overall feature wise. Do it in this format :

host name :

Notable Features :

Pros:

Problems:

Overall:

Link:

So - i'll start of for my website Zeebit :)

host name : OLM

Notable Features : PHP /Mysql, lots of free cgi scripts, PuTTY access, Password protect directories, FTP access

Pros: Excellent tech support- like 5 min replies - and useful ones at that, gives basic stats, Always fast and i've never had the website down - good VFM in general.

Problems: Only 1 FTP account on my setup, No PHPMyAdmin for DB stuff, Have a few probs everynow and again accessing the control panel - which is fairly limited if i'm honest- i'd prefer Cpanel - but for the price- its ok.

Overall: Mainly good- but a few downsides.

Link: http://www.olm.net

I will edit this thread to keep it clean and to the point :)

The best way to lose potential customers is to use sloppy language... spellcheck that site, y0.

Pros: Minimal Downtime. I took the webhosting bout 4 months ago and it has only been down twice.(atleast to my knowledge) .even then it was only for bout 10mins or so. Support staff are excellent and they usually reply within an hour of sending the support ticket. Servers are fast and powerful with the ability to look up any of the server's real-time status on-line.

Cons: I couldn't find a way in NetAdmin to remove the Anonymous FTP login. It has to be done by staff only but thats not such a big deal

Remarks: Great host! I have signed up for a 2 year package with them now. For my next site I might also check out GoDaddy. Their new packages are kind of oversell but they are reliable.

^ Not really what this thread was designed for. This thread is more about payed plans as they tend to cater to professionals and have higher uptime, no ads, and better bandwidth/space. Not to say that free hosts can't have some of those things too. P.S. That site doesn't even have plans up yet. ;)

I am looking into getting A Small Orange Account or perhaps DreamHost. I need to host a business website and I want to pay yearly. ASO looks good but their plans arn't all that competitive. :(

I can host people for $5.00 a month or maybe a dollar less for a little more than 100mb of Space and 2gb of bandwidth. You would also get unlimited of everything, such as mysql, e-mail, subdomains, parking, etc. If you are interested you can PM me. Thanks!

P.S. You would get PHP, Perl, Ruby on Rails, and more.

:)

I've got a managed VPS over at Wired Tree.

Their support is amazing, I get replies to my tickets in less than 5 - 10 minutes and issues are resolved quickly. Their network is amazing, I get low pings compared to other hosting providers and they use quality hardware as well, Dual Opterons or Woodcrest.

If you're looking for quality and reliability I highly recommend Wired Tree!

If any of you are looking for a webhost, I've been with these guys for 11 months. Best host I've ever had (and I've been through lotttttttts.)

Host name: Jaguar PC

Notable Features: Pay by Paypal, CPanel, AW Stats, Fantastico, allow legal adult sites, (you get the point..)

Pros: EXCELLENT pricing, FAST support, everything a webhost should be.

Problems: In the last 11 months since I've been with them, I've had downtime on two occasions. Each time it was only for a few minutes - so not a big issue whatsoever!

Overall: I'm not switching hosts until Jaguar PC closes down, they're unbeatable.

Host name: OpenHost

Notable Features: Cheap Linux hosting ($10NZD = Very good for a NZ host).

Pros: Great price, Plesk CP, Big Application vault, Proxy support.

Problems: Sometimes FTP stops working and I have to retry, If paying by DC then you have to pay in 3 month blocks

Overall: Moved here from Kiwihost and so far so good _b.

I have been using A Small Orange for over 3 years now. I have only had 2 small outages for a few hours each in that time. The help desk is top notch. I will say that the major CON of this host is the size for a basic plan ($5) is 400MB. That is way to small in today's market where Lunarpages, Bluehost, Dot5 are giving out 200Gig plans for around $7 with free domain name.

I will keep with ASO for now but I am near my size cap and may move to another company.

Host name: Yea-Baby.com

Notable Features: 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, PHP Version Switcher, CPanel, Free Domain Name, Great Speed and Uptime.

Pros: Free Domain Name, Fast Server, Great price, CPanel CP, PHP4 and PHP5 both :).

Problems: You have to wait about 6 hours to receive feedback on your questions. Depends on what time of the day you are asking though.

Overall: Moved here from Bluehost.com. So far one of the best.

I think you're supposed to disclose the fact that you have a vested interest in the company. Like that you own it. In fact, your "Overall" comment looks like it's downright lies.

    • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.
    • Macbook Air is an appealing option, as are plethora of Windows devices with various different CPU's
    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
    • Dead on arrival at that price. Like they missed the mark by multiple hundreds of dollars - this should actually undercut the Macbook Air at $899 if they want any sort of sales / further adoption of WoA
