Sick of PS3 Bashing

Recommended Posts

Ok, getting a little sick of the fact that it seems fashionable to bash the PS3. Half those that do bash it have never played on one. We all know its expensive, although thats changed now with better bundles and new models. I've tried to stayon the fence about the Wii vs X360 vs PS3 debate. I personally have both a Wii and PS3 and have played on the X360 several times.

I find very little, if anything, wrong with the PS3. It serves as a suberb BD player, upscaling DVD player, streaming media player, PSP interactivity (copying video's, remote play etc), great games, great free online support, rapidly growing store content, very reliable hardware and a quieter fan.

There are complaints that sony could have used DVD9, but with some of the newer titles, which include HD videos, take up more space than dvd can provide.

All I ask is that you don't judge the ps3 by what others tell you, try it yourself and give it a chance, you'll be pleasantly suprised.

So can we play on one, and look at the technical specs, and look at the ported games, look at the range of game, and then bash it?

Or can't we even bash it with reason?

Agreed + 1

Sure, of course bash it with valid reasoning. I've found over the past weeks that mmost of the complaining is from people who have never played on one.

I just find a lot of the bashing is minor nitpicking

There's nothing wrong with the PS3 overall per say, but once you start looking deep into the system, one will start noticing problems, even with all 3 systems.

360: RRoD's, which MS hopefully fixed with the new 65nm chips.

Now that I dissed my own console, here's how I feel about the PS3 and the Wii - lacking. Both systems are losing support from 3rd party developers. For the PS3, its due to the hardware, and sony trying to shove innovative stuff down consumer's throats, not thinking of the sacrifices which were made to do so (hard to code for). For the Wii its that theres only so much that a publisher can incorporate with the motion sensing before it takes away from the game play.

Unless Sony gets its act together with 3rd party support, and actually getting fully working games (ie framerates and detail) on par with the 360, there aren't any killer titles which would make me buy one

Also the 360 has been a around longer so devs have had more time with it. The Wii devkit is similar to the GCN so thats several years experience. It took several years for PS2 games to look good too.

Look at Gears of War though. Came out about 1 year after the 360's release. There is nothing to compare yet from the PS3 in the detail and framerates.

Reason it takes forever to design for the PS3 is the high cost of the Dev kits and lack of interest as there is a might higher percentage of those with 360s then PS3's

It will never stop, but it is a little annoying considering the PS3 has hardly matured yet. Once we get some killer games or at least not a crappy 360 port things will start to change, lets hope it doesn't take to long. But if nothing is delayed 08 looks fairly promising in the gaming department.

The problem with the PS3 is that it has LOTS of problems. Sony, in recent times, has done a lot to fix those problems but unfortunately a brand image works both ways - if it's got a crap image, people will see it as a crap image until they fix it and unfortunately Sony's image is in tatters and will take a long time for them to redeem themselves.

However, another point I'd like to make is that the bickering between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is far, far worse than the fighting and bashing that goes on amongst the console fanboys. If you don't believe me, go to betanews.com and look at ANY article that even remotely mentions anything HD and you'll see pages and pages of comments from idiots on both sides of the field.

And, unfortunately, that means the PS3 gets caught in the middle of that. So does the 360, but only to a very small extent.

Bingo. This time last year 360 owners were enjoying the biggest release of the year, Gears of War. Along with that though, we also had Rainbow Six Vegas etc. Both fantastic games which were/are both impressive titles for the console. Granted thoug, the PS3 is starting to trickle out games like Ratchet and Uncharted which both look great. The one year excuse can be put to rest though, the PS3 has been out a year now and under performing in it's offerings.

Bought it, played it, got bored of it.

Nothing on the PS3 comparable to Gears of War? Have you seen Uncharted?

If you are happy with your choice of console then fair enough, but people can like or dislike whatever they want.

Can you imagine the state of the gaming industry if there was only one console?

How is it Sony's fault that developers do not want to make that extra effort to deliver actually getting fully working games (ie framerates and detail) look at the orange box - I can't believe it's Sony's fault Valve didn't want to spend more time with the platform to master it better and achieve the same results.. and infinity ward sure as hell did it with COD4, Ubisoft did it wist Assassin's Creed...

oh well - I've taken it all for granted though, neowin is a somewhat pro-xbox community and that's the way it is, if people get annoyed with negative comments; don't read 'em, go somewhere else if you can't handle it. Every system has it's flaws and it's strong points imho.

That's not what I've been hearing...

Assassin's creed is prone to some terrible FPS lag on the 360 at times and I hear it's worse on the PS3. If you ask me, Ubisoft didn't make the effort on EITHER system.

@ Keito

I'd say it's mostly Sony's fault that the devs won't make that extra effot. The high cost of dev kits, the notoriously difficult hardware to programme for, and the lack of user base all came from things that sony did, or didn't do.

But I think that's all changing now. According to, I think it was Gamespot's The Hotspot, last podcast the PS3 dev kits have no halved in price, which will attract a lot more development I'd imagine. Also now they are getting more used to the hardware, as everything takes a little time to learn. And with the price cut, the userbase is growing to a healthy size, which will also attract more devs. So all in all, good moves by Sony lately, and I think it will work to get them back in this battle!

You know what I'm sick of? I'm sick of people whining about stupid **** like someone bashing their console. I find it funny that you even acknowledge the critics. Why is it so hard for people to ignore the critics.

I guess I'm use to it being a fan of the horror genre which has just about every news outlet against it. At the end of the day, does someone on a forum bashing your console making it any less enjoyable to play a game on the console of your choice? It shouldn't and if it does, then maybe the people or person bashing your console is right.

Yup, all this has achieved is another "This is why the PS3 is so poor" style thread!

The initial point I'm trying to make is that sony has a good idea (sometimes). But then the initial replies from a 360 user is normally something like "we got that already", or if the 360 don't have then its "whats the point"

was supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek
