Sick of PS3 Bashing

Yeah the multiplayer and communication infrastructure, but even then those weren't of a mature age until Halo 2 came out and introduced the party system in the game. And please, if I hear the "one year extra" excuse I think I will literally kill :rofl: The 360 had plenty of demos, trailers, music videos, arcade games and by the Fall, Tv shows and Movies :) What exactly have Sony introduced since the launch of PSN? Um nothing..That's one whol year and they haven't advanced anywhere in their own right, never mind a comparison of XBL on the 360.

And also, don't make it out like this is their first venture into Online. They had it on the PS2, it just sucked there also. You can try forget about it, but it aint gonna go away!

I love how some of you think Home is going to suddenly change the PSN. The introduction of Home is not going to increase the amount of demos or PSN titles released. Demos are lack luster on the PS3 because they take so much time away from development, the releases would only be pushed further back. It's not down to Sony which ones make it to PSN or not, developers are (and of course if Sony sling them a few $$$ along the way for persuasion i.e tell them to).

I know what you wrote, but I'm not just commenting on just your post here. I see quite a lot of replies from members who think Home is going to change the PSN when it's released. How a soical application will suddenly increase demos and PSN titles is beyond me...Wishful thinking to say the least.

Yes, I know what Home is and what it allows you to do. You aren't reading what I'm writing, how will a social application, increase titles and demos. Just because Home is out, productivity will not increase. It's not down to Home to make demos and movies is it?

In my opinion I think home might help, like you pointed out, it's a social application, thus reaching multiple users. If game developers can get those demos and movies to those people, they are surely going to profit from it. Now i have no proof to back this up, im just "thinking out loud"

I guess time will show but I don't think home would be such a great improvement. I mean you'll have to go through this virtual 3d World from one place to another if you want to watch movies or see demos, and etc... it just takes to long to get from one place to another. What I like about the 360 is the interface is so quick and easily accessible. It takes me only couple of seconds to go from the arcade section to the market place, download a movie and then go back to my game.

Anyways, I don't see Home increasing profits for games. Just releasing a demo will do the job, regardless if Home was ever released or not. You only need to look at the 360 Demo topic we have at Neowin and there has been occassions gamers haven't liked the look of a game or weren't all that interested. Then a demo comes out and they love it & buy it.

But again, Home is not going to increase the amount of demos available, that comes down to the developers to decide or if it's PS3 exclusive, Sony ask them to make one.

Considering how big social networking has become, I wouldn't rule anything out at this point. You may be surprised.

Don't be naive Game. We have enough proof about to know that social networking is booming right now.

Home is one step closer to a "real-life" like appearance of yourself. It will also cover music/movies as well as games.

If it's done right, it will be huge. I really think it's that simple. Create something thats as addictive as myspace to teenagers and something that has a 3D world representation of yourself/your home like 2nd life and you will attract people.

Also if Sony can nail some sorta translation method into Home (even if its just between the simple chat messages) it will be nice to communicate with people in Iceland ;)

- warranty, while ive heard many many stories about people getting the RROD, ive never heard a story of anyone getting turned down, and microsoft admitting there mistake and extending the warrantys, so... i know that if my 360 broke down it, i would be able to get a new one from them without charge, which is comforting.

i haven't heard of very many issues with the ps3, but defininatly not want my $500 console breaking down and have to send it through the mail.

When my PS3 stopped working(wudn't turn on) Sony shipped a new PS3 out to me next working day, was only on the phone 10mins.

Some vendors are good like that. Only had experience re. faulty hardware with scan, who were very good - phoned them up, they sent me out new ram modules the same day and got them next morning, at which point the same delivery man took back my faulty modules. Good service does exist, occaisionally :')

Took my word for it said we will send you a new one out next day delivery, when the new one arrived a just had to put my old one in the box.

To be fair on Microsoft's part, a lot more 360's have died than PS3's, plus there is that little problem with piracy. I know that a lot of pirates bricked their own consoles trying to flash their DVD drives and were able to send them off for a replacement because the people fixing the 360's got paid on a per-box basis, so they didn't care if the warranty was broken or not.

Ok, getting a little sick of the fact that it seems fashionable to bash the PS3. Half those that do bash it have never played on one. We all know its expensive, although thats changed now with better bundles and new models. I've tried to stayon the fence about the Wii vs X360 vs PS3 debate. I personally have both a Wii and PS3 and have played on the X360 several times.

I find very little, if anything, wrong with the PS3. It serves as a suberb BD player, upscaling DVD player, streaming media player, PSP interactivity (copying video's, remote play etc), great games, great free online support, rapidly growing store content, very reliable hardware and a quieter fan.

There are complaints that sony could have used DVD9, but with some of the newer titles, which include HD videos, take up more space than dvd can provide.

All I ask is that you don't judge the ps3 by what others tell you, try it yourself and give it a chance, you'll be pleasantly suprised.

Amazon was the same with me when my first PS3 died on launch day, they sent me out another one there and then and I recieved it on the Monday. Worst case if I was trying to scam them they would have just dumped another full price system on my card.

But I agree its a lil odd for Sony to do it as they have no way of taking your money if you don't return the other one, short of legal action.

Like I suggested on another thread, other forums have official threads for bashing and misgiving. It means that every thread does not get derailed with the SAME arguements over and over.

I don't see whats wrong with Sony choosing Blu Ray over DVDs for gaming. Developers don't seem to have had much issue with it either. There are benefits to be argued with, and negatives to be argued with. I'd say benefits outweigh, you'd probably say negatives outweigh.

Just because your rivals use DVDs doesn't mean you have to as well :wacko:

There is no choice involved when you buy a Wii or 360. You buy games on DVD.

I can't understand why you guys are this uptight about using Blu Ray for games?

Its not about the disc, its about the player. We didn't need to pay for Blu-Ray, nor that damn Cell. If Sony had used the PS3 as a consoler rather than to impose their ideas of technological advancement on us, the maybe the PS3 wouldn't be so lopsided in power and so hard to develop for. The PS3 is a mess hardware wise.

We have choice, but a a $200 difference between our choices can influence us, especially when the console was rumored to be around $800 at release.

Blu-Ray is also a crappy format, IMO, but as someone else said, thats an argument for another thread.

lets put the games, software, hardware and all other things about the 360 and ps3 aside and look at the way they're built. a friend own both the 360 elite and the ps3. when it comes to loading times, noise from the console and parts used to build them, we both agree that ps3 has the 360 beat, hands down.

it's like 360 was built by GM and ps3 by BMW.

For some reason I find this hard to believe. I have heard it takes near twice as long for the PS3 to turn on than the 360 (loading and all). The 360 may be noisier, but noise comes after performance. Not to mention, as I said above, the hardware of the PS3 is mismatched, bottlenecking its performance at both the CPU and the RAM. Then you have Blu-Ray's slow read speeds to worry about...

Now for my own word on this.

The biggest thing I hate about PS3 owners is their tendancy to justify their console with the arguments:

"Unused Potential"

"But when the games get here"

"When the console turns around"

These three arguments have been being used since the launch. Its been a year and the console has no more potential than before, in fact hardware analysis has found it has less potential than the 360. There have been no console selling exclusives, and most of the games are sub par or are still being delayed. And the console still hasn't turned around.

You guys keep saying "when", but when still hasn't come. Its been a year and we are still waiting for these killer games and the amazing catch on of the PS3. As much as I want the PS3 to succeed, and as much as I love the competition, the PS3 is just poorly made, and it only has itself to blame. Blu-Ray, the dev kits, the cell, everything about the console just made it worse. If you want me to go into detail why though, just ask.
