I think the ipod touch will get all the updates that are not dependant upon part of the iphone hardware.

It doesnt have to be. All of the iphones apps besides the "phone" can be used on the touch.... its wi-fi, why not?

I don't think that will last! No one should buy it, I'm sure some will, but I doubt a lot of people will and they will end up giving that update away for free down range. It might take months, but as long as the numbers sold is low, it will end up being free.
