How big is your windows folder?

Recommended Posts

w00t :p

I deleted some more stuff, and am almost under 600mb :p

C:\windows\system32\oobe (I didnt delete the folder, just everything inside)

C:\windows\msagent

C:\WINDOWS\java

C:\WINDOWS\mui (if you use more then one language, you need this)

I am still looking for more things to get rid of, but this is a good start :p

Hey Dazzla, what did you delete?

Yours is 100mb smaller then mine :o

Thanks ;)

dllcache, help, all bitmaps and wallpapers, cursors, media folder, driver cache, umm utms folder in system 32 (migration wizard program I think) and there were 2 more folders, can't think what they were.

I have left my driver cache folder in place, because I need to add new hardware somtimes, so that would save me almost 80mb :p

You'd have to get down the weeds and start looking at individual files within the system32 folder.

I think we should really start a thread for Files and Folder NOT to delete in XP . This will help us get rid of the ones we dont need. For my part, whatever you do, DO NOT MESS with MUI folder under system32 and oembios.bin file under System32 as well.

yep, which is where things start getting tricky.

there's a book out there (i believe) that explains what every windows .exe does, but i have zero cash. "windows xp in a nutshell", or something along those lines, for anyone who wants to try to find it and share the wealth :D

Well NeoMayhem said it best.. Cant wait for sombody to get to less then 400mb

i think i win the race for the smallest winnt folder.

this isnt photoshoped....

i have windows nt4 running on a 75mhz laptop, w/ a 800mb hard drive, w/ 40mb of ram... oh yeah,

Yeah, I may have to go look at that book :p

I was thinking of finding a program that told you when the last time a file was accessed (if you let windows do it, finding out when it was accessed, accesses it, so it is point less :( ) then you could just delete every file that hadnt been accessed after the last reboot :p

I am sure there is a ton of files that can be deleted, but finding them is hard :(

Cleaned out the help, dllcache, registerpackages, reinstallbackups, usmt folders and maybe more.

Still occupying a lot of space though.
