Many PS3 owners complain of Firmware 2.40 freezes

Recommended Posts

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. MS have pulled an update from the 360 before. Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones and it killed my 360.

2.40 so far is fine for me.

Yeah, Windows has had the same problem as well. It's just one of those things that can and does happen.

i have had this problem!

did the update and it froze at the wavy screen, took out the hard drive as recommended on another website and stuck it in my macbook formatted it to fat32 then stuck it back in the ps3 which asked to format it, did that and now its back up and running 2.40!! lost all my saves but would lose em when swapping the ps3 with sony anyway! so kinda good and bad! downloading psn stuff now will always back up saves in the future! lol

I don't think ANY of us will be getting 2.41 or anything, in the near future.

The problem seems to be with installing 2.4, so if it's on your PS3, you're fine.

Of course it still is a little laggy/prone to crash, but I don't think that's specifically why it was pulled - I believe those niggles will be flattened in due time.

The serious issue seems to be for anyone who failed to get it installed, full stop.

What's the problem with ISO Loaders? The PSP is doing just fine, so is the XBox.

PSP software sales are absolutely awful.

It's a no risk mod though (can't be banned).

I'm sure running custom mods/firmware on the PS3 would be even easier for Sony to pickup than running a 1:1 copy of a disc on the 360.

Its not the console im worried about, its all the developers. Whos going to take a risk and create something unique if its going to get pirated to hell and back, they will play it safe and release the yearly increment games or the inevitable sequels with better graphics.

Don't be so afraid, the PS2 was pirated like hell, the 360 runs copies and they both sold/sell a lot of games.

The PSP and DS, so easy to pirate, yet many innovative games came out for both.

However, I'm not saying it doesn't hurt, I just think it's not a real issue atm.

I'd say the PC is in a much greater risk of being abandoned by developers than consoles are.

I just now realized how much off topic we've gone, damn.

The PSP and DS are at bigger risks than the consoles.

Both of them can be pirated on with NO downsides.

The PS2 even, had no downsides either.

The 360 has the risk of you getting banned, and unless the PS3 when hacked runs on 1:1 BR's, the risk for it will probably be even higher. Not to mention the costs being high right now with a BR burner, and BR discs.
