Many PS3 owners complain of Firmware 2.40 freezes

That's pretty strange but maybe they're just gonna fix some things and put it back up as 2.41? Can never really tell what Sony is going to do. :D

Edit: Never mind, if its only on boot up then there's no need for an extra update I guess.

Yeah I was having a bad day at work and I just came home and bang the update required message came up. I though it was gonna be update 2.37 for some reason, but when I saw the epic 3 numbers and decimal I randomly farted and that's how my 2.40 story ends lol. But yeah, I'm glad my installation went fine. For some reason this install was much quicker then other ones, isn't it supposed to be much bigger?

Update has been fine here too, but I did notice in the ticker that it said an update was on the way, wonder if it meant 2.41?

Shame randomnut isn't with us any longer, he'd have had a field day with this.

What a mature comment :rolleyes:

Shame to hear the big 2.40 FW has been pulled but I am sure they will fix it soon enough so everyone can enjoy it without any problems!

I'm glad that they pulled the update before the issue became widespreed as more and more ppl downloaded the new update. I for one have 2 PS3s and only updated one (a 60GB US launch model)and its working fine. I have the update on my computer as I downloaded it. I'll probably wait till they fix the issue/issues before updating my second PS3.

They didn't screw anything up really, it's worked for the majority of us.

Ok look, so far today we have discussed this fw to death and about how great it is. We all agree it's a step in the right direction and well done Sony etc etc.

But you aren't gonna sit their and defend a firmware which is corrupting hard drives. It was obviously wide spread enough for Sony to pull the update. So let's drop the denial..

Not at all, it worked fine for them all in testing, if it didn't it wouldn't have been released. Its also worked fine for the majority of people who have it, there is clearly something else at fault somewhere. This sort of thing can not be foreseen so it's hardly them 'screwing up'.

I'm not defending Sony here, it's just the way these things tend to roll now and then...

Yes that's true but I would'nt just put it that way. Any software can be very complex when you have multiple amounts of hardware and software to manage. Anything could have triggered the behavious. Even Microsoft pulled XP SP3 because it was causing issues with some AMD based HP computers. Even though a small amount but that led the service pack to cause serious reliability problems.

Plus, there could be bugs inside the update that may only trigger when certain hardware/software tries to access a certain part of the code.

Its good that they are looking into a solution.

You are in so much denial its untrue. There obviously is something screwed up with the firmware, that's why Sony pulled it. What part do you not understand. They obviously didn't test it all otherwise they would've come across this problem!

Main thing, at least Sony is addressing the problem and hopefully they fix it soon!

Yes, **** happens, and Sony's doing a great job getting on fixing it right away. I just wonder why, when this happened to MS (the Spring update that bricked some consoles, which MS fixed immediately), people weren't satisfied with the '**** happens' line of reasoning.

Just seems curious to me, but like I said, kudos to Sony for getting on this right away.

There's is no way of testing all the scenarios in testing. Even a single JPEG or MP3 even a single line of text could cause issues (code injections). I might not call it screwing up but its definately not a quality release.
