They didn't test it?? You know that for a fact do you? I work for a large IT company and we write and test our own software, it's tested and passes all stress tests. We then release it and a percentage of PCs wont work.

Yes, **** happens, and Sony's doing a great job getting on fixing it right away. I just wonder why, when this happened to MS (the Spring update that bricked some consoles, which MS fixed immediately), people weren't satisfied with the '**** happens' line of reasoning.

Just seems curious to me, but like I said, kudos to Sony for getting on this right away.

I said the same there as well. Main issue with the update on the 360 was it caused even more red lights than what were already out there and people were getting more and more annoyed.

I said test it all meaning they missed stuff out! You are twisting my words! What has you working for a large IT company got anything to do with it :s

But like I said, at least Sony is being quick and fixing the issue. Sure would suck if this happened to me.

An enterprise setup is controlled unlike a consumer who can put whatever on their systems. And stress testing does not have anything to with quality of the code.

Plus if the code has been tested then why there're exploits and bugs. (Apple, Microsoft, Adobe). There is no such thing as a perfect code.

I was keeping it simple to avoid boring people to death with being a software/hardware tester :)

Maybe it's my imagination but the XMB seems quite sluggish now :unsure: all the menus used to load near instantly, now they take a few seconds and in a few instances the PS3 has frozen and then about 10 seconds later unfreezes and goes about it's merry way.

I suggest you do the same if you don't want to lose them, at least to be on the safe side. Seems this firmware is still buggy after install.

Did the same, better to be safe...

Anyway, waiting for an update, also, **** does happen..

Ok look, so far today we have discussed this fw to death and about how great it is. We all agree it's a step in the right direction and well done Sony etc etc.

But you aren't gonna sit their and defend a firmware which is corrupting hard drives. It was obviously wide spread enough for Sony to pull the update. So let's drop the denial..

Agreed.

Personally i didn't have an issue but i will be doing what DnM suggested is backing up games saves incase anything screws up with the firmware later.

How did this happen honestly i have no idea.

I think you should backup your data/saves before its too late.

its slow while gameplay, no game and it feels the same

They should be applauded for acting so quickly, I'm quite sure that won't be the case though.

Just backed up my saved games to be on the safe side (even though I haven't experienced any problems, yet).

Bit of a letdown (N)

The issue isn't a big deal though, easily fixed (user end). Although I don't know how long Sony will take to patch this.

My 40GB buggered up if you remember way back - Exact same issue, wouldn't boot. It was when I just got it and my 60GB was on ebay. I fixed it by taking out the drive in the 40GB and formatting it in the 60GB PS3.

Why should Sony be applauded? They should get on the cause straight away, why wouldn't they? They made a mistake and need to fix it.

Luckily this has only affected the minority of PS3 owners.

They didn't make a mistake as such. It's one of those things that happens and normally gets ignored. Sony have acted fast.

Bull. Something that gets ignored is a minor bug that doesn't much impact anything. Something that causes a company to completely pull a huge update is a mistake.

Could we please stop arguing for the rest of today? Enough of it already...

This isn't good news, but these things happen.

Thumbs down to the problems, thumbs half-way up to pulling the update - Rest of the thumb will be up if this is fixed fast and no one has any majory "bricks" or issues.

Still it's a bit of a let down. It was the biggest update the PS3 has seen, but it's seemingly fairly widespread issues.

I've had no issues at all anyway...

This is happening to the minority of people, so it is a minor problem. As I said, they should be applauded for acting so soon, but wouldn't.

End of the day, its an unforeseen error, and not a mistake.

You can't blame Sony for this!

Almost every big company have had problems like this. Most won't even do something until days/weeks later, but Sony pulled the update promptly, kudos for that (Y)

"What the hell, Sethos said something positive about Sony, kill him, KILL HIM!"
