Emo and goth to be made illegal in Russia

LONG LIVE THE SOVIET UNION!

Now only the rest of the world needs to follow :D.

That's hilarious. ****ing emos.

I wish similiar laws were passed in the US, Canada, and Australia. This should be banned out right since, it is causing harm (suicides) to the general public. Teenagers are following this trend (ideology), and commiting suicide. It's not a fashion trend, but a danger to our social structure, and young population. You can't always use the freedom of expression to justify an ideology that leads to suicidal teens. IMO freedom of expression should only be enforced if it doesn't harm anyone.

My 2 cents.

im not looking white in any way (and yes i do Nerd a lot)

Excellent! The world is already starting to look and feel better! The should also make hippies illegal.. yes. hippies. get rid of em too

Although I'm not emo, and I really don't feel any specific attachment to this subculture, I find the blatant prejudice displayed here abhorrent.

So what you mean is that you hate emos, but you believe in freedom of expression, and a libertarian view of the rights ofpit bulls> over some humans, purely because of the way they dress?

Dissappointing...:((

This should be a world-wide law. Someone needs to step in and tell these kids what f^&ing tools they look like.

As well they should be, both are liable to make children retarded and demean the our species as a whole.
+1 too. Emo: the most and greatest stupid teen trend EVER
This is a win for humanity. Every country should do this.
i an so moving back to russia now!
Now only if Canada followed suit.

Who said I hate emos?

You just edited that in...

Oops, yeah sorry. There were so many fascist posts that it took me a while to get all of them. My original yplan was to put my disclaimer at the bottom and say "the above posts" but when I realized just how many fascist posts there were, I figured I better put it at the top and work from there so that someone like you wouldn't come along and see my quoting all of the fascist people without any context!

Sorry!

aubaine - i'm not so sure all those people you quoted are for fascism and against freedom of expression, theyre just sick of all the whiny-ass emo kids running around. life doesnt suck as much as they say it does, and they need to cut their hair.

While I can't stand emo kids walking in the streets with their saran-wrap pants, it's not right for a whole country to ban a trend that doesn't actually harm anyone. If they can ban being Goth and Emo, they where do you draw the line? They can start banning whatever they want.

You can't just was past not caring?

Unless the person interacts with you, or does something that directly affects you, who the hell cares? Tight jeans have been around and fashionable since before you were born no doubt.

Now I'm not fond of the idea of any guys wearing women's clothings, but I really don't care. Especially not enough to condone violence and rage :blink:

FTR you get tight guys jeans as well.

This law would be a MAJOR infringement on human rights and the freedom of expression in one of the largest countries in the world. If all the people I quoted agree with it, then they are FASCISTS.

*LMAO* Oh man, this thread is awesome.

I can't believe people would get so worked up over this... as if emo was some fundamental right, somehow equivalent to voting and due process.

aubaine, we need a bit more fascism in the world, not less. Witness, the bleeding hearts here that take "freedom of expression" to encompass every possible way a person could express themselves (it doesn't... read your constitution) and act like every government in the world has a moral obligation to let people act however they like (they don't), and get into a self-righteous, self-important snit every time some government tries to enforce a bit of civility.

When the Nazis came for the communists,

I remained silent;

I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,

I remained silent;

I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,

I did not speak out;

I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,

I remained silent;

I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me,

there was no one left to speak out.

So what happens when your government tries to ban the way YOU dress and what music you listen to? Will you still be in favor of "more fascism"?

Man, that's just too sad, I'm in my mid 40's and the wife & I were just watching My Chemical Romance concert in HD last nite, we were so getting into

this emo thing, I even went and started wearing makeup around my eyes too.

I actually thought M.C.R sucked, they sounded like punk, but punk was anarchy and political, Emo is punk that's emotional with some kind of pop mixed in.

Russia has to do something because they're supposed to be a superpower and could you imagine one of these Emo's being the future president of Russia?

Nyet!

Rooting Tootin Putin, is gradually turning Russia back into the Soviet Union, even though he's not directly president.

Are you seriously comparing the banning of emo music to the extermination of 6 million people?

Did you read post 1?

It's got nothing to do with music.

"Of course there are emo teens who just listen to their music. But our actions are not directed at them but rather at those who also hurt themselves, commit suicide and promote those acts."

More so about dress sense/appearance,

called for emo and goth websites to be regulated and young people dressing like emos or goths to be banned from entering schools and government buildings.

The title of this article has helped blow everything out of proportion, and I bet a good chunk of people didn't even read the article, just read the title and posted.

However regardless of that, I still oppose meaningless laws against dress sense, unless the dress code is of an offensive nature - Wearing tight jeans and/or having long hair isn't offensive, unless you actively take offence to it due to your outlook. Where as it's your problem you can't handle that style of hair/form of clothing, to the point it genuinely bothers you/makes you angry. Which IMO is pretty sad (N)

Yes I did... To wit,

"The Russian government is in the process of drafting a law to make emo and goth music illegal."

First line of the article, dude. The underlying reason for the law is only tangentially related to the discussion actually going on here. The government is banning emo and goth music. My point is, anyone who thinks that that action (the action itself, not the intent) is somehow on the same level as the Nazi's actions in the 1940s (again, the action itself, not the intent) is -- at best -- deluded.

The whole thing reeks of inconsistencies then.

One source say it's websites and music,

"Russia Looking To Ban Goth And Emo Music And Websites" (http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20080725/1605061797.shtml)

Then links to the other saying it may be music as well,

However, it's become so "bad" that laws may be passed to ban both types of music as well as regulate websites about the music (found via Digg).

Then the supposedly spoken quotation on the linked article says,

"Of course there are emo teens who just listen to their music. But our actions are not directed at them"

Which to me means music is fine? Seeing as supposedly actions aren't directed at "emo teens who just listen to their music", instead

"but rather at those who also hurt themselves, commit suicide and promote those acts."

So to me, sounds like journalists making their own news/headlines out of quotes by potentially exaggerating things for an impact/hits. Big pile of fail anyway, the whole lot of it.

Fascism is fascism. I would hope that one of the lessons from WWII is that is shouldn't take the genocide of 6 million people for us to START being vigilant against fascism.

If you thought about my posting of that poem at all, or if you understood the meaning of it even basically, it is that Nazi fascism didn't happen overnight, it happened little by little while people stood by letting their freedoms evaporate and their friends lose their rights. If we stand by and do the same, we have learned nothing.

So to me, sounds like journalists making their own news/headlines out of quotes by potentially exaggerating things for an impact/hits. Big pile of fail anyway, the whole lot of it.

Entirely possible, and unsurprising if true. If so, they certainly know how to stir it up a bit. Just look at the reaction here. I'd think any article saying this includes regulating/banning websites is incorrect/exaggerated in any case. The Russian government surely knows that's impossible. Even China can't manage to keep the lid on sites of its choosing.
