New Server going online today!

Recommended Posts

i'm seeing 3 IPs for www, that correct? :p

It was a few hours ago, you must be caching your dns results, there are only 2 setup

Ah, so this is why i cant search? :p

Yes, the search engine will be down whilst the move is in progress, use google with site:neowin.net if you need to find anything.

The "latest forum posts" thingy on the front page stopped updating for me, about two-three hours ago.

Still seeing these old posts on it:

(yeah, I saw Dave's signature).

There may be one or two minor issues like that, they're not high priority for checking out so long as we're online while the servers are moved across.

I say that, but I just fixed it, was just a minor permissions error on the files, all sorted now.

In other news, Simon360 discovered the reason behind some of the recent slowdowns we've been experiencing and together we've put together a patch that will prevent that happening again, so not only more powerful servers, but more efficient code will come out of this process :D

You mean to say, Simon did something that... works?!? :o

Yes, it's true, Simon doesn't do servers :p Nevertheless, others have done worse...

Interesting... I live <30 mi from both the datacenter in Southfield & the offices in Plymouth yet my ISPs routing via BGP and their backbone goes out to Ohio, Cincinnati and then Chicago for the traffic peering/exchange before coming back to SE MI. Funny how BGP/routing/traffic aggregation works. Anyways glad the datacenter is in MI.

Nothing is running on the Michigan box yet, your route should take you to Chicago, where the current boxes are

Okay, the trace lost me as to where it took me once I hit Cogent. There were a lot of hops. Tonight at just about Midnight EDT I got a lot different trace. I'm just three miles into Michigan above South Bend, IN. This is what I get now:

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.

    • No thanks! WebView trash is unacceptable. I only use software that's native.
