If you're gonna do that, try and give as many details as possible... Lack of details is usually what causes WW as people decide to start making your decision for you. Can't blame them in one sense if someone is giving no details, but in another sense it's usually proud owners of a console telling you to get it over the other because they would.

Tell everyone what games you like, what genres, what previous consoles you owned, what you're looking forward to in the future and if you want to do anything besides playing games on your console, ect.

Why?

Because if you just start a topic that says "360 or PS3", even with the new rules your topic will still hit 5 pages and go around in circles. As I said above it will become "What do I want NienorGT to buy?" as opposed to "Here's some advice for NienorGT to make up his own mind".

Free speech has gone no where, and if you believe what you're about to say could get you banned/in trouble, it's nothing to do with free speech it's to do with either

a) Clear breaking of the NW rules - You agreed to use this forum under the rules NW specifies when agreeing to the T&C's

and/or

b) Saying what you want to say in a derogatory manner

Both of which do not need to be done to enjoy freedom of speech (Y)

I'm not sure I understand this. Are you just emphasizing the 'report trolling, flame bait, etc' stance? Because what's wrong with responding to someone who disagrees with your opinion? I'm all for stopping the never ending arguments that go nowhere, but I don't see a problem with responding to someone who wants to debate something maturely with you.

I believe that might be in relation to what happened earlier in this topic where a member speculated on me and Popisdead being suspended.

Larry said this won't be accepted on the boards, therefore I think what that point relates to is reporting people calling out others by name in relation to speculated incidents/bannings.

Instead of jumping in and replying yourself to deny/confirm/speculate, report the post instead.

These matters of moderation are private between the moderators/members in question. Not for the board to discuss between themselves.

At least that's what I think it means anyway. I seriously doubt it means not replying to someone who has challenged your opinion.

When I say no calling another member out by name, I mean there is no need to use another members name in your post in any way that can be viewed as negative, that is all. It also does include not speculating on if another member has been restricted or not, etc. That is really no ones business except the persons.

Basically, No need to say a persons name in any negative light.

You disagree with what they are saying, quote them, and respectfully discuss why you disagree with what they are saying.

Posts like "<insert member name here> you are a moron" or "earlier in this thread <insert member name here> would not let things go" are along the lines of what we mean.

Truth be told, you want to call a member out, quote them, that is what most normal members do. :p

FYI: All defamation cases are referred to the same thing in court in the United States. "Slander" isn't even tried in America... it's just tried under the same defamation torts. There's no separate section for slander.

Yep sure, I hate when people make threads like "ATi or nVIDIA" and "Intel vs AMD". Such threads easily make problems, yet they are nothing near what I saw here in Gamers Hangout.

I'm happy to see stuff getting sorted because in the end, Fanboism and Trolling is just as worst as Spamming and other stuff.

You can't really argue with a benchmark(s) showing how fast/how well each performs. I mean you can bring in bang for buck and some other factors, but if something in the hardware world performs faster/better than a competing product, it's really as simple as that at times.

In the GH there is no real benchmark to go up against with many things, unless it's metacritics/review scores - However they are totally opinion, not "fact" like a benchmark of genuinely* similar hardware to show which runs better.

That can be what causes a lot of the fuss/arguments in the GH. Since there isn't really any underlying conclusion/answer, opinions fire off left right and center, and if people get out of hand, those opinions quickly turn into arguments, then rule breaking.

It's like saying the "360 is better than the PS3", and saying (vague example cause im rusty in the hardware world :p) the "New ATI card is better than the new Nvidia card".

While the later will still have some people moaning it's "not", or they still prefer Nvidia, if there is benchmarks on various websites showing it is, well, it really is. Unlike in the 360/PS3 scenario, where the "answer" if you want to call it to that statement, is never right, nor is it never wrong - Because it's a complete opinion based off nothing more than your likes/dislikes.

Which is why in the gamers hangout if you're ever going to make a statement like the above, you really have to give a bit more reasoning/opinion to be taken seriously than just entering a topic and saying "360 is better" or "PS3 is better". In the HWH I'm sure if the first post shows "hardware a" trashing "hardware b" in a benchmark, while your post may still seem a bit pointless to some, coming in and saying "hardware a is better" is going to go down a lot more civilly than doing it in the 360/PS3 scenario.

* I say genuinely similar hardware in relation to CPU/GFX cards, as people will try to face off the PS3/360 fairly often on raw specs, which as we know is a merry-go-round scenario with no real answer. Well the games are the answer of how good the hardware is, but last time I checked they're still being made and improved on weekly/daily/yearly.
