mathachew and zach, thanks for the info - so i suppose the black bars are normal. that's weird, on 1280X720 it fills the screen, then native resolutions to the TV gets black bars. ok, it'll do. either way the graphics look better somehow, and the interface itself, i.e the NXE, is much sharper looking than the previous dashboard.

I know for a fact that there will be game-specific accessories for your Avatar, but I'm not sure if those will be 'unlockable' or sold. I would tend to say both as Gamerpics were as well (I remember PDZ had unlockable Gamerpics). I think all you had to do to unlock them was play the game, but still, it could easily be expanded to incorporate achievement getting.

I'm not hugeeee on achievements or buying items so what I'd personally prefer is just a redemption code you get when you buy the game. Let all owners of the title make use of the unique items whether they get the achievements or not. Maybe let people who don't buy the game or do so second hand buy the same content for a few hundred points.

I'm guessing they will use redemption codes at least for some games special editions at least in the same fashion they do for weapon unlocks already.

What's "Twins" about them?

Some share beard or hair and that's it

QFT.

There's always gonna be so many people who have the same hair cuts, hell people in RL want to have the same hair do as a celebrity. It doesn't make half the population look like twins though :p

I think they're about as different as you'll be able to make them. Really you'd see alot more variety with something like an Oblivion character builder where you can shape and resize 50 different thing's but thats probably an unnecessary over complication for these avatars.

I would like some additional hair styles but.

The idea for achievement avatar stuff is great, but knowing MS greed and all, I kinda highly doubt it!

They DON'T want to give stuff away for Free!

Soon, MS will Sell a lot of extra packs, to make $$$, you know it.

I will probably not buy them much, maybe a few, at most.

I will Refuse to give in to Microtransactions, I HATE it!!!

Microsoft has already stated that the upcoming packs will be FREE.

Microsoft has already mentioned that their ultimate vision is to have games unlock special items as rewards that you can show off.

That sounds good to me...

Well, the fine print clearly say the only first few waves... then later in future it's going to cost you!

In other words, anything actually good WILL cost you!

I will See to that they give Free avatar clothings from game Achievements, that would be Nice if it's believable at all! I HOPE so!!!

Your second statement is in no way implied by the first.

No it will not work, the ways of getting WiFi to the Xbox 360 is with the adaptor or the laptop trick.
Does anyone know if you can install Xbox games with the NXE update?

Was gonna borrow Shenmue 2 off a friend, as I've never played it.

I just inserted an Xbox game and no such option appeared, so it doesn't look like it.

Perhaps I missed it or it has been discussed, but I'd like the option of changing colors of clothes etc...that would add quite a bit of variations to the avatars. Liking the hard drive installation option so far - upgraded to a 60GB drive to accommodate future games...Red Alert 3 seems like it took 30 minutes to install, while Fallout 3 was less than 10, although I wasn't timing it.

nice update but my console somehow takes an extra 3-5 seconds to boot up

Boot up to where? My console takes longer to start up, but thats because it doesn't load the dashboard until you've connected to Live.... where as before you got to the and you could try and do stuff but the Dash would reload when it signed you in.

I have a launch console (I know, I know - I always keep my fingers crossed!) and run my 360 to my HDTV via VGA for the DVD upconversion. Question I have is does anyone else have a long delay - about 5-7 seconds - after turn on for a picture to come up? Is this simply due to the handshake between the VGA and the TV?

Yeah mine takes a couple of seconds to sign in to live so you can't do anything for a little while when you fuirst start up but thats no biggy.

What I don't like is that avatars on friends take a while to load for me sometimes (probably my slow net connection) and also to do with the friends feature. If a friend is in a party then you have to wait for their speech bubble to come up before you know which of your friends is in the party - since I can't recognise my friends list by their avatar characters alone!

What is a party anyway, I must admit I havn't used them and don't completely understand :s

Do you just team up on the dash then when you go to multiplayer games you are all in the lobby together, whereas before in halo 3 for example you would have to invite to each individual game, i.e. in Halo 3. if so i don't get it, why is that so great?!

sod all this pretty avatar guff, let my kid use Messenger with the ?25 messenger keyboard I bought her last frigging chrimbo that has been gathering sodding dust for the past 11 months.

please.

I'm still finding it incredibly slow (on a 20Mb connection), especially when it is loading information on downloads etc (IE latest games/movies etc) it can take around 30 seconds or so for the information to appear :( I also hate the fact that it lists everything by popularity as default, I would prefer the default to be latest first but I see nowhere that I can change this :(

    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know The ONLY thing I need to know is the price, which I know will be way higher than I (and most people) are willing to pay for a phone... so basically nothing here I need to know. PS: Nice job getting that Apple reference to a non-existent and unrevealed product as "competition" in there. Cheque is in the mail.
    • Well I really think the repasting helped if your higher clocks have returned, maybe the next thing to look at is if there is a problem with your case airflow? I guess this because your 3080 has returned to optimal state, but is still staying too warm, which might suggest it was thermal throttling before you repasted, of which the only logical conclusion could be outside factors.
    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know by Hamid Ganji Galaxy Z Fold 7 - Image via Samsung The next generation of Samsung foldables is set to be unveiled next month at the second Unpacked event of the year. Samsung’s 2026 foldables are not expected to offer significant upgrades over their predecessors, with the Korean firm instead focusing on design refinements and conventional upgrades such as faster processors and better cameras. However, Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil an all-new passport-style foldable this year to rival Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is expected to debut this September. Here’s a roundup of everything we know about Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices ahead of their official debut. When can we expect Samsung’s new foldables? The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 series were unveiled in July, and Samsung is expected to maintain this timeframe in 2026. Based on previous reports from Korean sources, Samsung will hold its Unpacked event on July 22 in London, UK, to pull back the curtain on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. The devices are also expected to hit the shelves a few weeks after launch. However, Samsung has yet to announce an official date. A new naming scheme? One of the most interesting changes we might see this year is a new naming scheme for Samsung’s latest foldables. SamMobile reported that since Samsung is expected to unveil three foldables this year, it has adopted a new naming strategy to simplify product identification for customers. Accordingly, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will reportedly be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and will serve as the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The “Ultra” suffix suggests the phone could feature higher-end specifications, such as additional rear camera modules. Samsung’s new passport-style foldable is expected to carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 name without any suffix. This model is reportedly equipped with two rear cameras. No major changes are expected for the Flip model. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 anticipated specs Rumors over the past few months suggest Samsung is preparing several upgrades for its upcoming foldables, although the devices may continue to rely on larger batteries and faster charging speeds rather than dramatic design changes. The primary focus this year is expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its wide-screen design. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here are the anticipated specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra based on previous leaks: 6.5-inch outer display and 8-inch inner display, 120Hz refresh rate, and 2,600 nits peak brightness Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage 4.1mm thickness when unfolded and a weight of 210g 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, 10MP or 12MP telephoto camera, 10MP cover camera, and 10MP selfie camera 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the device is not expected to be a major departure from its predecessor, although it could become slightly slimmer. Expected specifications include: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600 processor 12GB of RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage options 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner dispaly and 4.1-inch Super AMOLED outer dispaly 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera 4,300mAh battery with 25W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 Samsung’s foldables are also expected to launch with Gemini Intelligence, Google’s AI suite for automating tasks in Android ecosystem. Moreover, given current memory and component costs, some Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 variants could see a price hike. Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a wide-screen design The centerpiece of the upcoming Unpacked event could be the Galaxy Z Fold 8, previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold Wide. This model adopts a passport-style form factor and is expected to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone Fold. Galaxy Z Fold 8 official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here’s what to expect: 7.6-inch primary OLED display and 5.4-inch cover display, 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and 4:3 aspect ratio Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage options 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera Android 17 and One UI 9 The three new foldable phones are unlikely to be the only devices unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event. The company is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9 series.
