[Official] Mirror's Edge

I'm up to a part that is really annoying me. Chapter 6 i think, i have to run through this boat and i am at this point where i have to open a door but it is a round handle and she has to turn it. Problem is there are four guards in that room and she can't open the thing fast enough and i die. I'm trying to do it without firing a gun.

Even using guns during that part I was annoyed as hell. I was incredibly annoyed every time they made guns a "requirement". I would've loved this game so much more if it wasn't so amazingly annoying at times. My mouth hurt for days after playing this game I was grinding my teeth so much during it. Loved the free running gameplay art and music, but despised the game overall. Too flawed for me to enjoy it in spite of this.

beat the game yesterday. definitely a lot of frustrating moments where you have to repeat sections again and again...and again...and again...and again, but it was an enjoyable experience all around. i think what made it harder for me was the fact that i was going for the trophy where i couldn't shoot anyone. will play through it again guns blazing this time around.

Up to chapter 3 after a few hours playing this evening. Liking it so far though did resort to using guns at one point to get round some blues just to give me TIME to work out how to get out of a particular area.. they just moved too quickly to give me any time to just run and jump my way out of a tricky spot!

Liking it so far though! It's harder than I expected.. which is good!

Amazon US and UK have January dates. I hope we get a Demo.

Yeah a demo would be great. If its out in January all the better! Just have to wait and see I suppose

edit: After a quick google search, a few other sites seem to confirm that the game is scheduled for a January release. Lets hope they make it!

I tried the demo today on X360 and while I was floored by the art direction/GFX/design and sound. This game doesn't feel right. If DICE could have managed to pull out a gameplay design like Assasin's Creed ( this game is the best parkour rendition I ever saw ) while retaining the design, they would have an absolute killer game. But, alas, that's not the case.

the controls become really intuitive after a while and after a few minutes of gameplay you will understand the method to their madness.

i suggest just hopping around the tutorial mode without the instructor for a few minutes.

I am currently on Chapter 5, and all I will say is be prepared to do a lot of things over and over and over until you either figure out what needs to be done and/or you actually can do it.

Ironically enough for a DICE game, it is the shooting parts of the game that really slow it down, there are certain parts where you just have to stop and kill people or you will not proceed, and these parts IMO take the game out of the fluidity that is normally there.

I love this game, and I hate it. LOL

I haven't read the topic really so I don't read any spoilers, or have the game as I'll be getting it for Xmas.

But does anyone know about the soundtrack coming out, and I know there was the whole remixes thing, but we were told a while ago that the soundtrack would be released near the launch of the game.

Just wondering if anything had come out?

No, but your right, that does have more than the one I have here, but thanks for showing me the full list.

I meant more along the lines of the Score for the game.

I was really pumped for this game, but after playing the 360 demo I'm unsure I really want it now :p As others have said, the overall look and feel of the game world and sound is excellent. Even the basic HUD (or more to the point, the lack of it) really adds to the overall feel of the game. However, fighting seems awkward and out of place from the rest of the game, it spoils it for me. I think I need to spend some more time on the demo before I decide to buy it or not.

New Mirror's Edge PC trailer, HD!

now it is confirmed, it comes on January 2009 and with PhysX

Have they added extra visuals to the PC version? From what I can see in that trailer they have.

You sort of get used to the slightly manic fighting and in a way it adds to the game in the same way that the basic (lacking) HUD does. Even now, half way through, I still run into a battle and find myself pressing the wrong buttons to fight and struggling to co-ordinate myself. In a way it adds to the realism as I guess fighting IRL isn't a clean / predictable event - you just go in there and do your best.

On a spoiler type note who else really enjoyed the sewers section with the snipers? I unlocked the "Its a me!" achievement as well when I jumped on a sniper from a great height - made me laugh out loud!! :)

Yeah - there are some lovely new effects in there thanks to the PhysX engine.. could see them all over the place (shooting flags, plastic effects, etc). It doesn't look quite as 'warm' as the console versions though..

Guys just noticed the Mirrors Edge theme tune is up on PSN in WAV and MP3 for free! :D

It's a great song, go grab it if you have a PS3 even if you don't have Mirrors Edge.

I'll check XBL and see if they have it as well.

    • A few years ago walmart had the 512 models on clearance for $35. I bought 3 of them. I should have purchased more.
    • I'm fine with a little reasonable promotion of Edge, but the degree which they do it right now I consider extremely unreasonable.
    • Microsoft AI boss no longer believes that AI will replace human workers by David Uzondu Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, recently took back his statements concerning white-collar jobs that he gave to the Financial Times in an interview made back in February, where he claimed that AI would replace office workers within 12 to 18 months. On Monday's episode of The Verge's Decoder, Suleyman recast the technology as more like a helpmate than a tool designed to take over your job. He explained that smaller office duties will "increasingly become digitized, automated" as people generate more digital materials. During the discussion, Suleyman emphasized a "very important distinction" between "tasks" and "jobs" to clarify his previous claims. He argued that his earlier comments only referred to individual actions that people perform at their desks. Suleyman used to work for DeepMind, the research lab he co-founded in 2010 alongside Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, before he left in 2022 to establish Inflection AI and build an empathetic digital assistant. Microsoft hired him in March 2024 to lead its newly formed "Microsoft AI" division, placing him in charge of consumer products like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. His February comments also detailed plans for Microsoft to achieve self-sufficiency with a $140 billion infrastructure budget to train frontier models, predicting that creating a customized AI will soon feel like creating a podcast or a new blog: The 41-year-old is not the only AI executive who's softened his "AI will replace you" stance. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, last month used X to push back against employment panic by arguing that his startup builds tools to assist humans rather than build replacements. He had previously garnered backlash by suggesting that many modern office roles that AI might replace did not qualify as "real work" in the first place, at least when you compare desk jobs to physical, historical labor like farming.

    • Meta will now use data from outside businesses to personalize AI responses by David Uzondu In an update that's rolling out globally (except in a handful of countries), Meta will use your data from outside businesses to personalize your AI responses and your primary feeds. Meta already utilizes your shopping activity to target ads, but the company now plans to expand this tracking to personalize other "parts of your experience" like feed algorithms and AI assistant chats. The company is replacing the two settings ("Your activity off Meta technologies" and "Activity from other businesses") that currently let you disconnect off-platform activity with a single, renamed setting called Activity from other businesses. If you don't want Meta to manipulate your feed and AI responses using your outside history, you can just turn the Activity from other businesses setting off in your account settings. This toggle resides within your Accounts Center, applying your choice to every connected profile. Turning this off will not stop companies from sending your data to Meta. The company will still collect your web interactions, but it only uses them to train products, while still accessing external accounts you connect. When The Verge spoke to Meta spokesperson Emil Vazquez, the representative said that this update will exclude several locations at launch, including the European region, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya. The new update comes at a time when the social media giant is recovering from a major PR disaster involving generative AI. Last week, there was a huge security issue on Instagram where attackers figured out a way to trick Meta AI into handing over account ownership (even if the victim had 2FA enabled). Some of the affected accounts include the dormant Obama White House profile, cosmetics brand Sephora, the Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force, and security researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Internally, the company also had to scale back plans on its Model Capability Initiative (MCI), an employee-monitoring program designed to train corporate AI models by recording worker keystrokes and screen activity, after employees raised privacy concerns and complained about severe battery life drain.
