Neowin HP Magic Giveaway winners

Congrats - That HP mini was looking good. Sux i couldn't win it!!

Congrats to everyone who won and it was definitely a touch choice though. For the people who didn't win, there's always next time :)

I would like to know how my entry ranked at the very least. I did put a bit of thought and effort into mine more so than a Kiwi fruit cut out. The only thing I see that the horse field had over my entry was the sheer size of it. I believe I put more creativity into my entry than the vast majority. So at lest tell me how I ranked.

And I rather upset that someone could merely make a design from snow on the ground and be second place. like a number entries I put money and effort into my design. pfft.

Be a gracious loser, please. It's a very unattractive quality complaining like this. As stated, we are not releasing any other statistics other than the top 10 presented in the initial post.

50 staff members voted for the winners. Fifty. It's not as if it was one person whose subjective views can be easily challenged.

UNATTRACTIVE???, I expect someone in your position to show a lack of understanding of what I am saying. Yeah I'm all sour grapes, but for some decent reasons that should be voiced.

The reasons being that you feel yours was better than others and that you put effort in. I hear that, it's been voiced.

I'm not saying it wasn't fair. I'm just surprised by two of the 10 entries beating mine. AND I would like at the very least to know my ranking. THAT IS THE LEAST THAT COULD BE DONE GIVEN THE EFFORT PUT FORTH.

Telling me I'm unattractive is not making things better. ;)

You should not have posted what you did then this wouldn't have been drawn out. I voiced my thoughts. It was a done deal.

Firstly, I said the quality of having 'sour grapes' as you put it is unattractive. I stand by that, I'm sure you'd agree with me that as a general quality it's not something to be encouraged.

Secondly, you're not in a position to state what is acceptable behaviour of us as competition organisers. That's just how it is.

Further grievances should be taken up in PM rather than aired publicly given that this is a personal issue you have and not a general one.

You should not have posted what you did then this wouldn't have been drawn out.

As the organisers of the competition, responding to specific concerns from the community is indeed part of our remit.

1st its an apple carved with kiwi wheels (took me a while to realise it was meant to be a carriage lol)

2nd, yeh its just a bit of snow on the ground... but urs was just some paint on a mat :p

the snow one actually looks quite good tbh, i think they put quite a bit of effort into it.

altho, i still think it was rigged as mine is still clearly the best and i will never get over this injustice!

First, You should have backed off.

second, I can voice my concerns.

third, you are making this out to be more than what it is.

I like your response. (Y)

I think mine looks better than the snow on the ground. It's clearly a matter of opinion. I believe effort and creativity should be considered. Mine was clearly more creative and took a bit of effort to paint. Mine is paint on a rug, which I designed. No one else thought to alter the neowin.net. No one esle even came close to the idea of a mat.

I'm with you on the injustice though. :)

First, You should have backed off.

Any member of the community here, staff included, should consider anything they post publicly in a thread open for any comment. That's the nature of message boards. That said, if you do wish to take this privately for any concerns about my handling, PM is the place for that. Thanks :)

We certainly share a concern about the injustice of hedgehog success... full internal enquiry will be done about that one, I can assure you! :D

I changed my response. I appreciate your final portion. Thanks for showing some understanding. I appreciate the PM advice thanks. :)

I just want to say that everyone should respect the outcome of the competition. I personally think that if the moderators collectively rate your entry to be where it is then it probably deserves it. Hell I wanted the mini 1000 pretty bad, but that's the way it is. If you've been in competitions then you would know that it's not the effort that counts, it's how judges rate your entry, and if effort and quality is there, it shows.

can i at least have a neowin branded pen... or a mouse mat.. or even ?5.27 transfered to my paypal account?

:|| Rob, did you use the Jedi mind trick??

Ok, I come here tonite to see if I won the contest, What to my surprise I freaking lost because I followed the Rules! (well I have to say it was nice to at least have a 1 in 128 shot) way better odds than other sites.

Good Job Folks!

However.

I do want to put my 2 cents worth in, I think the guys judging didnt follow their own rules, that was my first impression as soon as I saw some of the winners. I think they were blown away by the things folks came up with. They lost site of the their own rule!

Still not really complaining, I like what some of those winners did.

Tell me how that first image is not TOUCHED up without software... Oh very nice image I must say, just really what camera take a circle picture with black all around it? If it's one of those special glass balls, Ok where is the camera at? Seems like that broke 1 rule about dont use software to manipulate the image!...grrr... Man that's a lot of saw dust.

The guy with the picture in the parking lot just happen to be able to use a camera and light source and he was that good to be able to magically get a Neowin logo to stroll around.. Right... uh huh ...

The other guy with the light source, He could wave his light to just the right Letter and fill out... I have to see that done in person.. Still like it tho...

My main complaint is I thought the rules said no Software Photography tricks.. It doesnt look that way to me.

Last buy not least...

Thanks for having the competition. I enjoyed entering it even tho I didnt win.

Now i have to visit the Neowin board more often!

You can have the warm feeling inside that you've given that little hedgehog a purpose in life. He may not be a winner in the traditional sense, but he's won over the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of witnessing his artwork.

I fully agree with your first statement. I disagree with on how it was judged with two of the top 10 entries. It clearly did not take in account effort.

I agree with some for of minor prize for most if not all of the remaining contestants.:)) A neowin pen would be cool. But unlike the rest of the LOSERS, I have a Neowin door mat.:pp

Thought I would get my comment in before a complete s**t storm rolls in :| :

Thank you Neowin and HP et al. for the competition, you made my sitting outside for an hour freezing my butt off on a concrete post so much more worthwhile . I wish I had a canvas that big, sawdustfarmer. Well done to all the other winners.

But unlike the rest of the LOSERS, I have a Neowin door mat. :p

Gotta say, I did like the mat. There must be some rules and regulations out there about putting your dirty shoes on our corporate logo though, gotta get our lawyers on that one... ;)

<snipped>The other guy with the light source, He could wave his light to just the right Letter and fill out... I have to see that done in person.. Still like it tho... <snipped>

Long exposure, run around with a penlight or flashlight pointed at the camera.

A neowin pen would be cool. But unlike the rest of the LOSERS, I have a Neowin door mat. :p

haha i laughed so hard at that i think i peed myself!!! lol!

also i am not arguing.... but, one of the pics it says it had a 30second exposure time...

most people i know dont have a camera with a function like that at all... unfair advantage? :p

I can't comment on the others but I spent a few days doing mine, made a total mess of our house. The 1st prize entry must have taken considrible amount of time too not forgetting the large amout of sawdust involved (and the cost of the sawdust).

So how long goes it take to apply some paint to a mat?

QFT. This has to be the silliest argument ever.
