Support for dual? Pfsct! Quad is the way forward

:p

The creator of this program is at the mercy of the applications used though!

Mencoder can pretty much re-encode everything which is why it's used, but up until now I'm positive it was only running on 1 core. Should be two now.

Well if it supports dual then it means its multithreaded so will scale to quad, use a bit of common sense.

Yeah, that's common sense  Oh wait it isn't, some programs does not scale very well and actual coding for quad improves the performance even further.

oh and 8 cores ftw btw :p

Anyone using this on Windows 7 and can get it to work?

I just get an big red X when it tries to discover my PS3.

My ps3 has contact to internet so it shouldnt be that.

Allowed it in the firewall, turned off my AV. Still it wont work :(

Anyone can help me get it to work?

Doesnt help to restart my computer, in matter of fact, when i restart it and then launch the server, nothing happens, if i look in the trace window, all it says is something like, starting java.

Tried to run it as admin, not working either.

Feels like it dont want me to use it :(

What does your log say? Here's an example of mine (working fine).

[main] TRACE 16:19:23.529 It's ready! You should see the server appears on XMB

I'm 100% convinced any issue of your PS3 not appearing are port based ones.

Either your PS3 isn't opening the ports necessary to use/find a media server, or you don't have the port necessary to share your media server to your PS3 open on your PC (5001 by default).

Set up a static IP for your PS3, and forward that IP as a DMZ on your router if you know how. It means any port the PS3 wants to use will already be open.

Check to make sure your PS3 is listed as NAT2 under network settings -> view connection info on the XMB.

Hopefully he'll release another Beta that fixes .AVI playback, have no idea how the hell it manages to break that :|

The beta I posted was experimental, like he said it's not even been put up on the blog :p

It's main purpose was to check the new build of mencoder.

Are you sure AVI playback is borked though? I'm guessing something that worked before isn't now?

It could be a windows 7 related problem then blurp.

I'm guessing it works fine under other OS's installed?

I'm running Windows 7 as my main, and it works fine!

Well, 'experimental' or not, basic AVI playback should be handled by the PS3 if not the software.

And yes, pretty much every single episode of Top Gear I have gives me a "Data type not supported". :(

Program must be borking something up then.

Did they work before?

This application in comparison to TVeristy does a few other things like thumbnail generation and what not, so something may be preventing the AVI files from working.

I'd just go back to the one on the blog for now - http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

ps. Isn't Top Gear swirling around the web in HD anyway? ;)

Aye, worked on his 'listed' build and through TVersity without transcoding, so the PS3 does play them natively as well - Which is why I find it odd it would throw that error at me.

Guess I'm gonna have to skip his 'experimental' build and say SOD it.

And no, HD episodes are pretty much non-existent on the 'scene' except their 'special' episodes.

Is there a way to start the media server on the computer startup? I want it to open and remain in the background without me having to open the application.

If you put a shortcut to PMS.exe in your startup folder, the application will start with windows.

Yeah i was thinking of that but i wasn't sure if it would just open the whole application up rather than just the media server service. Oh well, might have to do that. Thanks.

Ahh I forgot the application has an option to "install as a windows service".

Well the beta I posted does anyway.

Are you running 1.02.5?

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
    • Ideally, the algorithm is smart enough to see the real sender ID and non-spoofed address to block it. Ideally.
