Status Update

Ermete M.I.A WITH BASIX!!!! It looks as if Basix has gone missing with the bear. This is a BIG SHAME! Need to find out whats going on!!

https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/744484-bear-travels/page__st__375

The Bear is "CE" marked and conforms to British Standards BS5665 and European Community EN71. His eyes are of the safety lock-in type. Due to natural pile loss, they are not recommended for children under 18 months.

I have decided to something fun and interesting for this site. Its called Bear Travels.

Basically I have got a Bear printed with the following on its shirt

Neowin.net

The idea behind this is to have the Bear photographed in different areas around the world. So basically someone who wants the bear requests it and that member posts it to them, and they then take photos off it at some famous locations around the world.

I have kept the size of the Bear down to around 15cm so it should be easy and cheap to post etc.

Now you can be in the photo or just the bear but as long as there?s something in the photo that shows what country it has visited, famous landmark maybe or something unique.

The idea behind this is to have some fun, promote neowin.net and get a Bear to travel the world, under neowins name. Open to anyone who has a camera etc.

However:

This relies on a lot of trust, as in im trusting you to take care of the Bear, not steal it etc, im also trusting you to pass it onto others in the world.

As ideally I would want the bear back at some point.

If you want to be in on this fun adventure please PM m:):) Dont feel left out if someone has taken a place you want to do, just sign up anyway, the more pics the bette:):)

The deadline is going to be on 22nd March 2009 - 11:59PM This is to be included in the current line up etc, any sign ups after this will be added to a new list which will start after the first is done.

The list below is NOT the final posting list as such, this is one i created as members requested to be put in! As soon as the deadline is over this list will be rejigged for the posting on:):)

Sounds like a great idea, I'm up for it. Crazy has a point - probably want some criteria for selection, like regular DCL posters or something. Similar to something I'd been doing initially as a joke, and then because I could - http://pandasaur.co.uk/gallery/v/Series/Panda/, and I have to say, it's fun. Really fun :). Going to be taking the panda to Bermuda at the end of March :)

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
