I like this idea!

Now all we need is a Home Basic with no flood control and bigger PM box for $5 a year and I'd be in

My guess would be one of the current subscribers ;)

By modifying a website's code soley to remove ads you are stealing, and thus a pirate.

But you're not stealing anything. You're just blocking the display of ads. I have Neowin whitelisted, so I took it off to test. I loaded the main forum page, and there were no ads. I checked the code, and the ad code is still there. There's no modification of the code iteself going on, the adblocking plugin I have just doesn't display ads. They're still there.

Just a query which I need clarification on.

I assume the ads on neowin only make money when clicked, right?

So, if I know that I am the type of person who never ever clicks on online adverts, then whats stopping me from blocking them?

Neowin would make no money from me either way. So is it down to Neowin policy?

By the way, I'm after clarification, not an argument.

How are new subscriptions going to be handled? I have a subscription but it doesn't expire until August. If I pay for another year (at tier 2), am I going to have to wait until August until the ad-free subscription kicks in? Would there be a way to upgrade without letting the current subscription fees already paid go to waste?

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I guess you would pay ?20 for a year's subscription and your current subscription would effectively be canceled.

I just can't wait to see the badge. My Paypal account is already charged with enough credit.

You can see the new badges, as well as purchase the subscription here.

The inline ads make us money simply by displaying.

I don't see it. It just shows me as still being a Tier 1 subscriber... :(

I guess for those already subscribed, it doesn't show other subscription options, so:

You'll have to manually upgrade like I had to, but I see the option.

Pink!

There should be a selector, Pink for people who want it and Purple for the people who hate pink but want something a bit darker.

At least some (if not all) of our advertisements are paid per impression rather than per click. We actually still lose some money on Subscriber2s based on the cost of the subscription versus what we would make if they didn't block ads. We are trying, however, to make it affordable to go "ad-free" and still allow our members to feel good about it.

How about the colour of my piggy? It's a little lighter. That or hot pink. :D

Edit: The colour of the warning bar?

I really like the idea of this second tier, but I'm afraid to say I don't do brown. I absolutely don't do brown on orange. :x

Awesome idea, reason why I'm not upgrading is purely a colour issue - The orange is right on the edge for me already, that squirrel droppings colour is too much for me :p
