Thinking im nearing the 2-1 boss, who is it? :p Gotta be something to do with fire/lava.

Any tips?

I found the mobs in 2-1 to be very resistent to melee, unless it's just me being really weak. However my soul arrow wipes most of them out in two hits, apart from the fire magician guys, who are a PAIN IN THE ASS.

edit: Ahhh that lava spider, gonna kick my ass I have no fire resistant gear lol. Well I have the Purple Flame Shield but not enough strength to use it.

Pro tip: Don't die. If I recall correctly the 2-1 boss is the Armored Spider. What I did was hide behind one of the columns to avoid his crushing spider legs and spam Soul Arrow when the opportunity presented itself. Run like hell to the beginning area when you see him charging up his flame attack! Rinse and repeat.

Funny :p But yeah I noticed there is no quick access back to this boss like the boss in 1-1 :(

Auch I'll give it a go, could be a one shot kill or something lol.

By the way, what is sticky white stuff used for? Found some of it in this level.

Beat the spider boss! Just.

That damn web it shoots to slow you down is a pain.

Is there any good swords/weapons to go hunting for early on? I want to get something cooler than what I have :p New armour would be helpful also... Still using default armour whilst I've managed to find one or two other vanilla weapons.

The lizard men are very resistant to cutting damage, the two messages at the start of 2-1 say they're vunerable to magic (like you've found with soul arrow) and piercing. I found that a soul arrow and then a stab with a mail breaker to finish them off worked well. Minor spoiler concerning an item near the end of 2-1 Did you get the Kris Knife right before Armoured Spider?

Are you upgrading your weapons as you go along? I think that's the best course of action at the beginning. You should have unlocked the lift down to the Blacksmith in 2-1 so you can access him behind the dirty man. For armour there's the black leather in 3-1 (watch out for the cthulhus)

Just started 3-1, damn those things with weird tentacle heads are tough. I assume they are the cthulhus? I'd say 3 shots from it and I'm dead, had to hide behind a pillar and spam soul arrow.

edit: One of my messages got rated early, full health/mp recharge  Good timing as well, my health was just over 1/3rd haha.

Dear god 3-1 was the most tense journey ever, but I managed to do it without dying and kept my human form.

I swear the battle with the boss, Idol Master was closer than my clean shave in the morning. What a lucky battle, but damn you feel great after you manage it.

This could easily become my game of the year so far if this keeps up. I must of taken about 2-3 hours to do 3-1, it was like a maze, and I do admit I play through this slowly, for some good reasons.

Completed 4-1 last night, the level itself was much harder than the boss. Those skeletons are difficult, very fast and hard hitting. Especially the dual wielding black skeletons, then the gold ones wielding a sword bigger than themselves  Wish I could take this game/my PS3 on holiday!

Gotta go and kill Flamelurker now in 2-2 so I can use its soul to upgrade the blacksmith, then use the soul from the 4-1 Boss to get the Meat Cleaver :D

By the way another invading Black Phantom killed me in 4-1 :(

Yeah, that's what I love about this game, the sense of accomplishment after you kill a boss. It makes all of the deaths tolerable. I hope you collected all of the goodies in 4-1, there's a bunch of good items scattered about the level. Let me know when you kill Dragon God in 2-3, I can't decide if I want to use the soul for Rage of God or Firestorm. :/

I'm going away on Holiday tomorrow for 3 weeks so I won't be able to help you out there :(

Getting one last fix in tonight but, I'm going to complete 2-2! I really hope they make a sequel, I don't think there will be DLC? :( Apparently the Ring of Flame Resistance which helps you out with the boss in 2-2 who looks pretty difficult is in 1-1 near the dragons, so I'm going to try hunt that out first. Avoided that area at first as those dragons one shot kill new characters with ease.

Great game but.

Certainly looks interesting! Physics system is pretty rubbish though

It uses the havok physics engine, but there's definitely some crazy stuff at times.

Luckily really just with debris/dead bodies, as you can see in the video kicking planks of wood for metres

My current character, just about to try 2-2 to kill Flamelurker so I can get my meat cleaver!

edit: Woot, just successfully killed my first black phantom (pvp player who forces way into my world). Sill noob trying to take me on ;)

Finally got my Meat Clever, but I also got Keel Smasher right after! :| Strength isn't high enough to use Keel Smasher properly yet though...

Bad ass swords! :punk:

I'm now going to go kill Old Doran now and get his armour so I finally stop looking like lame.

I really need to put the time into this game! Just been getting frustrated at dying on the same mob a few times over. The Red eye knight 1-1 Apparently I don't need to take him on, just thought I would lol

:pinch:

lol no, don't try to kill him yet, way too powerful for you.

The door he guards can't be opened till later anyway.

(he's even still tricky for me if I don't time my attack right)

edit: Died twice last night (failed to reach my corpse to regain souls after dying 1st time) and lost 80,000 souls in 1-3 :pinch: :(

Finally cleared 1-1 :) Liking the game but it certainly punishes you for dying having to go back to the start :(

You'll get better at.

I've done a few levels without dying at all.

You really just need to clear 1-1, then you can upgrade stats, get better weapons and magic.

I'd recommend jumping to 2-1 next, or maybe just do 1-2. That's one of the challenging things about this game, it's not linear in how you do the worlds, after 1-1 they're all open. You'll get no guidance on what to do, so it's jump in and try your best :p

Of course you need to do 1-2 before you can do 1-3 or 1-4, but at any given time you usually have an option of 3-5 levels you could do. Typically speaking the difficulty of things in 3-? as opposed to 1-? or 2-? can be more challenging, but it's not as simple as that either. On any given level there's always things that can kill you in a few hits, or 1 hit kill you. Although in saying that when I go back and do 1-1 now, aside from the Red Eye Knight, I pretty much destroy everything :p

edit: On another note I'm pretty much addicted to this game, I'd say it's now my GOTY so far. Still to finish off inFAMOUS, but this is draining all my time right now. The Eurogamer review is spot on. I really hope it sells well in the states for a sequel, or if they only do a Japanese/Chinese Demons Souls 2, they include English again. It's surprising how good the voice acting is, most characters even have their own accents (Genuine accents, not just 15 Americans mimicking other countries).

I need to get this game, where is best and cheapest to purchase this in UK, or get it elivered to UK?

Well I picked mine up from Thatz Entertainment in Lakeside. But I would check your local independant game shops rather than the chain stores. More chance they may have imports there.

I believe I paid ?45 for my copy which is compariable with eBay prices I guess. Might be worth contacting them and see how much to post to you?

Edit : Just found it on eBay ?39 inc postage[/url:):) i>

Cool may just purchase this for that price.

Also does this game have the same features as shown in the video above, leaving messages, watching the bloodstain deaths etc, all the online features shown?

Yep it does, I have't used the function (played offline to save my souls being stolen) but it's certainly there.

    • I am one of the first people to use the DXVK technology. In the channel below you can see some videos that I have made using this technology, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey. https://www.youtube.com/@nahum7995/videos Assassin's Creed Odyssey experienced several bugs and technical issues during its first months after release. It launched with its own fair share of funny but frustrating glitches. I ran it on DXVK 9 days after its release and I played it for many hours but didn't see a single significant bug on Linux. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is widely celebrated for pushing the franchise in bold new directions and specifically for nailing several elements better than any other title in the AC series: Player Choice & Branching Narrative, The Mercenary & Cultist System, Mythological Integration, Overpowered Combat Abilities, Open World Exploration But what I'm trying to point out is that this game wasn't quite playable on most windows systems, until a few months after its release when most of the bugs were fixed. However, on Linux it ran completely flawless from day one, although DXVK had seen little development and refinement at the time. What do you think the situation will be in 2026 now that most bugs and glitches of DXVK have been completely eliminated? This is information from Google about these situations that I am quoting. In many cases, using DXVK (a translation layer that converts DirectX 9, 10, or 11 into Vulkan) can result in more stable frame times and higher performance than native Windows rendering. This happens primarily by bypassing driver overhead and multithreading draw calls that were previously restricted to a single CPU core. Older APIs (like DirectX 9 and 11) are largely single-threaded on the CPU side. DXVK translates these calls to Vulkan, which is highly multi-threaded. This reduces CPU-bound stuttering on weaker processors. In certain cases, GPU manufacturers (especially AMD) have significantly better and more modern Vulkan drivers than they do for legacy DirectX. Vulkan gives developers—and in this case, the translation layer—closer control over how resources are held in VRAM. This can prevent micro-stutters and sudden frame drops during chaotic gameplay. Yes, certain games, particularly older DirectX 9 to 11 titles, can run with fewer crashes on DXVK than on native Windows. By intercepting DirectX draw calls and translating them into the modern, highly efficient Vulkan API, DXVK bypasses the limitations and poor driver support that cause instability in aging game engines. PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 can be easily and perfectly emulated on Linux. In fact, modern Linux emulators offer high-performance upscaling, widescreen patches, and automatic controller mapping out of the box.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 PlayStation 1/2/3 games look drastically better on Linux thanks to resolution upscaling. Furthermore, it is also a fact that you cannot play many fun games on Windows either, isn't it? - The Nintendo Switch has an extensive library of exclusive games. - PlayStation has an extensive library of exclusive games - Android has "mobile-exclusive" games, meaning they are exclusive to mobile devices (iOS and Android) and aren't available on PC or consoles. And finally, it is also the case that in the next five years there will be games that millions of people will say you absolutely must play and that they want to play this specific game that released a few days ago. However, the other side of this story is that currently, absolutely no one cares that they cannot play these upcoming games right now.

    • I found that stability back then was really down to the motherboard manufacturer. Back then i stuck with Microstar motherboards and VIA chipsets as they were ultra reliable. Most stuff was done with jumpers and left little room for user created problems 👍
