The Official "Demon's Souls" Thread

Yep it does, I have't used the function (played offline to save my souls being stolen) but it's certainly there.

Lame :p

Not playing this game online takes away part of the immersion (seriously).

You won't get invaded that much, it's only happened to me 4 times. 2 of which I died (I was quite the noob), 1 I won and the last time the guy never found me so he left.

I don't think your souls do get stolen, you just lose your body form (can't quite remember, it was a while back I was invaded and killed).

Better for you just to play in soul form that not play online. In soul form you never get invaded, only body form.

edit: Farming Splinter of Spiderstone for my Vicious Compound Long Bow +5 is a pain in the ass :( Drop rate so far is mega poor, although my luck rating isn't great.

5-2, **** that level, seriously.

Swamp that constantly poisons you, makes you walk really slow through it (can't run), then it chucks a black phantom at you with a meat clever? Yeah okay.

Took me a while to farm spiderstone for my vicious compound long bow +5, then I realised when I had almost finished if your world tendency is pure black, drop rates are higher (but enemies get stronger in black tendency). Suicided a couple of times to get the world tendency down whilst reviving with those stones that give you your body form back. Spiderstone dropped almost instantly after that  (I had the Long Sword of Searching as well which increases your luck/drop rate).

Anyway, done up to the boss of 1-4 last night, who is regarded as the King/main boss I think (not done the boss though - wanted items in the level first). Killed the Blue Dragon but Biorr who helps you out if you saved him earlier in the game got torched and died. He drops the strongest heavy armour in the game though, so I snagged that off him :p Got the key for the mausoleum in 1-1 off Ostrava just before the boss in 1-4, so I went back and kicked King Doran's ass, he's hard as nails though. Pretty cool armour and sword, best light armour in the game I think.

Got levels left to do in 4, and 5, then 1-4 to finish it off. Clocked around 40 hours so far.

5-2 is the worst level in a game ever. Swamp water that's constantly hitting you with poison status, large trolls with 2-3 hit death clubs that run in swamp water when you can only jog, black phantom who can also run in swamp who has a meat cleaver that almost kills you in one hit and knocks you over, and a confusing level design that's almost like a maze.

Although the boss is quite easy if you have a flame upgraded weapon... :hmmm:

Just 5-3, 1-4 to do and the end boss and that's me finally completed the game! New Game + after though :D

Oh I didn't know a PS3 can play any region games.

PS3 games are region free. It still won't play any other regions PS1/PS2 games though. Same applies to Blu ray movies some are locked to regions.

Done 5-3 last night, took a death or two, but it was quite easy when I used the right strategy.

Those Plague Babies creep me the **** out though, and they're lethal! I'm about to try and farm them though for Stone of Ephemeral Eyes (drop rate is quite bad but I have Rage of God), I want to do all the Black World Tendency things this playthrough but I used nearly all my stones playing through the game reviving (noob move, I know :p).

I cba farming the trolls in 5-2 for the stones, I hate hate hate 5-2 and the stones only drop in 5-2 or 5-3.

I seriously need to start playing this again - as creator of this thread I should be forging a path :p

I'm gonna start from the beginning again though - I never did get that item which gives you more life as a spirit.

You can get it at any time I think, it's in 1-1, just lying with a dead body.

But yeah, I think almost everyone who plays Demons Souls learns about things they wish they'd done differently in their 1st playthrough, whether it be mistakenly consuming a boss' soul for souls before you find out boss souls are used for unique weapons/magic or use items in your inventory best saved up, or forget to pick something up/miss it. That's one of the good things about it also, you're constantly learning.

I'm looking forward to my new game + for that reason, although the difficulty shoots back up again, so the levels that are now easy for me (I can pretty much 1 hit kill everything in 1-1, almost the red eye knight also), will be hard again. Although everything carries over, so I don't need to go hunting for everything again.

Seriously need to implement a pause feature for this

I have too many interruptions and this game is hard enough without knowing that you can't pause without losing your body

Uhhh it's safe all over the place. Just stand in a building, or kill a small area of guys.

I've never once been killed from idling.

What level are you on like?

What, no pause?!

Due to the way the online in the game works, it pretty much functions "like" a MMO. You can't pause the world round about you as it's constantly in motion, just like you can't pause the WoW world.

There's just one thing about this game, it's an offline game as well - Pause, automatically disconnect from the "server", unpause and it connects again. So a pause button is possible, unlike a proper MMO.

I'd never considered it that way so I guess it makes sense but it's still annoying grrrr.

How far would enemies follow me, do you think? I restarted and am on 1-1 again - found the cling ring but got killed by one of those blue-eyed knights which was highly annoying :p I didn't look around enough, I guess, when I left the game idle and heard acivity and got back just in time for the killing blow :(

Not even the Ps button pauses the game :woot:

Without the thiefs ring, your aggro lasts quite far for some enemies, especially the knights. The thiefs ring is in 1-1 also. Useful ring you'll use it throughout the game at times.

This ring reduces your aggro radius, meaning that you can get closer to enemies before they notice you.

Location:

In 1-1, after you go through the first Fog Gate on top of the Castle Wall (where the Knight with blue eyes is guarding) walk down the stairs and immediately look left. There will be a sunken courtyard, and if you jump off the edge on the far right side, you will land on a small support platform and see an NPC. Don't attack him! He is extremely helpful and will help to slaughter the mass of enemies, and also give you something for your troubles. On the same platform as him is the ring.

You still need to get quite near them to trigger them though even without the ring, so you must of stood somewhere near the knight.

Long ranged attacks really help your when you're new, starting as a Royal can be quite useful as you get the soul arrow spell. If you start fully melee, you'll need to be ready to dodge and learn the enemies attack paterns.

Also, whatever you do, don't try to kill the red eye knight in that level, he'll one hit kill you :p There's usually lots of messages on the ground just before him saying "come back at a higher level". The Red Eye Knight for example will chase you over half the level if you trigger him :p

I already knew about the red eye knight...the bugger chased and killed me during one of my first goes

Not heard about the thief ring so will look for that - might help me if I want to idle.

Later on you can learn a spell called evacuate that lets you return to the nexus and keep all the souls you have. Obviously when you go back into the level you need to do it again, but without the spell there is no way to get back to the nexus with all your souls unless you kill the boss, or touch an archstone (quite hard to get back to some archstones if it's a long level).

Farming for the pure bladestone is brutal

Only one enemy in the game drops it, the Black Phantom Dual Katana Wielding Black Skeleton, and he can pretty much 1 hit kill you. Drop rate is supposedly 0.5% :(

It's not needed to complete the game, just to get the trophy for upgrading a weapon to the max down the 'sharp tree'. I'm getting my first platinum with this game! (Requires 4 play throughs, but I think it can be done in 3 if you do things to a guide).

In better news I've almost completed my first run through, I'm just trying to farm and do as much as I can towards trophies before I start new game +, as the difficulty ramps back up again. Even although all your weapons and stuff carry over, best to do as much as you can first playthrough. For new game++ and consecutive games after, I think difficulty only goes up around 8% each time.

First playthrough 77 hours. I read that the soul ability you get for completing the game (Soul Sucker) greatly helps farming the bladestone above as it one hit kills the Black Phantom if attacked from behind and your magic rating is decent.

Probably only ~55 hours realistically, there was a fair bit of idle time one night I accidentally left my PS3 on when I went out.

Straight into new game+, not wanted to reply any other game as quick as this :D

    • Less disk space means less bandwidth demands which means lower operating costs for service providers... that's where money talks. ... cuz it's not about improving video quality!... that's just marketing spin.
    • And thereby lies the rub. AV1 support is not as wide as paid analysts would have the industry believe. With AV2 around the corner, it's going cause more time backlog in adoption (how many recent purchasers will upgrade yet-again within the next 6-12 months? most would rather stay pat for another 1+ years before even thinking about upgrading their setups).
    • Microsoft OneDrive is getting a simple yet much needed feature by Sayan Sen Microsoft has been steadily expanding OneDrive’s file management capabilities over the years, including for shared content and shortcuts, although it has had its flaws, too. The cloud storage platform introduced support for folder shortcuts several years ago, allowing users to pin frequently accessed shared folders from OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams. Now, Microsoft is refining that experience further with a new way to organize those shortcuts as revealed in a recent Microsoft 365 roadmap addition. Previously, shortcuts added through the “Add shortcut to My files” option would appear alongside all other files and folders in the root of a user's OneDrive. And although it's meant to be useful, this approach could also create clutter along the way, especially for heavy users who may have to work with large numbers of shared folders across multiple projects and teams on their systems. This is where Microsoft’s latest feature comes in, as it is looking to address this inconvenience by giving users the option to place new shortcuts inside a dedicated “Shortcuts” folder instead. The feature is designed to keep shortcut links organized into a single location instead of scattering throughout the main OneDrive directory. Hence, the idea is to make navigation and usability easier and simpler. The first time a user chooses this option, OneDrive will automatically create the folder, and to help make it stand out from the other folders, the Shortcuts folder will have a distinct visual identity featuring a unique color and a building-style icon. That being said, the new Shortcuts will behave just like any other folder in OneDrive, and as such, users will be able to move it to a different location, rename it, share it with others, or remove it entirely if they prefer a different structure. You can view the entry on the Microsoft 365 roadmap website here. Currently, the feature is in the "in development" phase, but the tech giant expects the rollout to start next month (July 2026). Do keep in mind, though, that new feature rollouts often get delayed.
