The Official "Demon's Souls" Thread

Just got this e-mail from Atlus. It's the unboxing video for the North American Deluxe Edition.

Video:

I await my copy. :)

I literally lol'ed at 4:04 when he's holding the strategy guide and says "we're just gonna take a little whiff of this" and he proceeds to do just that.

I don't think I'll be double dipping, the Asian version is enough for me. I'd like that thick and juicy guide though, if only to get a good whiff of it.

Cmon where's all the new noobs asking for help? :p

Most important tip, do NOT consume the boss demon souls, they're all used for something, at least all of them are in the first playthrough (some can be consumed in second playthrough if they only have one use, most have multiple).

Quit posting about it, and get your platinum, biatch.

I was waiting for the US hype to start to start playing along with all the newcomers (this is my 4th time through the game you know).

However like 2 people on NW are buying it  The NeoGAF topic has surged again, but I can't post on there any more :p

edit: lol @ Atlus twitter

Total # of messages in Boletaria Castle = 23,723. Total # of deaths = 7,482. Defeating your first boss in Demon's Souls? Priceless.

This game is really hard... I like it. Anyone know what the best starting class is for someone that's just started playing? I started as a priest, but I'm thinking of making a thief.

Royal for the soul arrow magic.

Ranged attacks are your best friend at low levels, soul arrow will kill most enemies in 1~2 hits.

As you progress through the game starting class becomes less relevant as you can level up any stats you want/use any weapons or magic you want as long as you have the required stats.

There's a great sword you can get in 4-1 if you can manage to reach it after 1-1, Crescent Falcion +1 (it has MP regen as well). It'll tear the magic weak enemies in 2-1/2-2 to shreds. You'll need to kill the skeletons going up the stairs then under the doors to the castle type area take a left, hug the wall as when you press the floor tile arrows will shoot out. At the end take another left and you'll come across a black phantom dual wielding skeleton (red eyes), he'll absolutely destroy you, best tactic is to get him to charge you, try roll out the way then grab the loot behind him and do a runner.

It'll be very difficult to get though early on, those skeletons are very tough. Getting the thiefs ring in 1-1 is a must to try and take them on one by one.

Just received mine today, took 14 days in the post, I think it got lot somewhere along the way and was evidently found again as it was posted from France... Oh well.

Spent the last two hours playing it and apart from being very confused for a large portion of it I have got the hang of it, just killed the first boss after spending a good amount of time trying to kill the dragon at the bridge in the firm belief that it was in fact the boss. Really looking forward to playing it some more, shame about all my uni assignments though :(

lol, i did the same thing trying to kill that dragon roasted me to death... i managed to kill it with soul arrow on the first bridge where it started breath fire... you just need to be on the tip of the staircase to avoid the fire and aim up, time it right, and 3 mp bars later, it is dead, got 6k souls =)

the thing killed me the most is the awkward turn on top of the stairs... always fall to my death >.<

I got the game yesterday and have already played it for 7 hours. I am loving it. Stupidly difficult, but extremely rewarding. That second boss took me a lot of tries, but after defeating him... that is the sense of accomplishment all games SHOULD give! I have been back there a couple of times helping others to do it also. The blue gem idea is great also - to get back to your living form you must help another. Very strange online mechanic, but it works.

destructoid has an article which calls this game the "ultimate multiplayer experience" , by the sounds of their description it reminds me of those early Zelda games where people had to ask other players how to get through the game because its otherwise almost impossible... supposedly all the communicating about a game inspired Nintendo to make that Animal Crossing game somehow, but its nice to see this game take a different take on the idea...

For those of you who have the game, is the lack of a pause button a serious annoyance, or is it something that you can live without? I'm definitely in the mood for a challenging game, but the missing pause button is the only thing that has me on the fence (I live in a... distraction prone environment).

Looks awesome though. We need to have more challenging games like this, since the challenge tends to add longevity as well (case in point: Ikaruga).

The game autosaves pretty much every step you take, if you quit it will save at the exact spot you're at for you loading it back up.

Plus you can just stand somewhere safe and idle.

    • I spent a good 15 min today trying to get new Outlook to use my default browser instead of forcing links into Edge. That kinda tactic is shady and it sucks.

    • Also try installing an alternative browser on ChromeOS. You have to enable dev mode and run it as a Linux app. Clunky.
    • sometimes in older bios' you had to set a password in order to change the csm settings
    • I've enjoyed Firefoxx64 DE for many years, and Edge doesn't tempt me, and I stopped using Chrome long ago--far too many bugs.
