It's best to create a new thread for bugs only, so they don't get drowned out by the discussion in the other thread.

Please report:

- bugs that are new to 7100

- bugs that already were in older builds (which ones?) and are still around in 7100

- bugs that were in older builds and at least seem to be fixed

I'll start with the bugs I found:

Windows Taskbar Thumbnail bug - new (?)

I noticed this today for the first time - the taskbar preview image didn't work properly, as you can see below. Only restoring and minimising the window again fixed it.

I never had this happen in a previous build, so I guess it's new.

Windows Colour Picker bug - first appeared in 7068

I first noticed this bug in 7068, and it reared its ugly head in every build since (including 7106).

In the Windows Colour Picker dialog, it will not allow you to enter more than two digits into any of the text boxes. This makes a proper adjustment of colours impossible.

WinSat bug - buggy since 7057

Yes, WinSat is still buggy in 7100 :pinch:

I get same score as in 7106 - meaning Aero Graphics has still the same bug and reports 6.8 rather than 7.9.

It reported it properly up to 7048, then nosedived to 5.9 in 7057 and recovered a little to 6.8 in 7106. I wonder when they will fix this

Gadget bug - around since 7068

This sidebar gadget bug has been around since 7068 and still isn't fixed in 7100.

It concerns the Anime PC Meter gadget (which worked just fine in 7057) and probably still others out there.

The display is buggy, the flyouts don't work, and the gadget alone causes an abnormally high cpu load - the load in the below screenshot is of the gadget alone!

Windows Taskbar Icon bugs - not fixed since 7000

When you try to change the icons for the apps pinned to your taskbar, the new icons are not displayed. It takes a long time (around a day whenever I tried it) until the icon is finally miraculously updated to the new icon, until then only the original icon is shown in the taskbar.

If you set the taskbar to "Combine when full", you'll find that icon handling here is broken even worse :pinch:

Besides the icon changing bug, when you launch an app from a pinned taskbar icon here, it will *always* display the old, original icon left of the text, and *never* the new icon you chose for it.

I found two bugs:

-The Windows Live Messenger jump list doesn't sync with my actual status. It appears as though I'm on a different status or signed in when I'm really not.

-Sometimes right before a sound is about to play, I hear a small crackle or pop. But I don't think it's Windows fault. It must be something with my driver. I'm using the Vista Conexant High Definition Audio driver from HP by the way for the dv8000t model.

Are these new bugs in 7100, or were they already around in an earlier build?

New bug:

If I was to type something into the start menus search function, on older versions of Windows 7 (and vista) when pressing enter would launch the first result or application found, in 7100 this only happens if you type the actual executable name of an application (regedit, mspaint, etc)

For example, I used to type Photos and press enter and Photoshop would open, now I have to press the down arrow key multiple times to select it before I can open it the old fashioned way.

Windows Taskbar Icon bugs - Clear the thumbnail cache.

- Combine when full - What?

Rapidshare? Lol sorry, I lost ALL my stuff due to a nas server failure a few weeks ago. Desperate to start my collection again. Anyway back on topic.

The issue seams to be related to jDownloader, if I close it, I can use 7's search bar as normal. jDownloader is Java based so I'll asume it's something to do with that. Java has never been a particularly good language.

WinSat bug - You overrate your hardware.

I disagree.

Windows 7000 - 7.9 in Graphics Aero

Windows 7048 - 7.9 in Graphics Aero

Windows 7100 - 6.8 in Graphics Aero

I'm running the same driver that I ran in 7048 and I lost 1.1 points in the Graphics Aero score. So either they changed something extremely drastic in the way 7100 scores the graphics card for Aero, or there is a bug.

EDIT: I have a small bug of my own involving Hibernation and Everest.

Sometimes when my computer boots out of hibernation, Everest is not started (when it was before I hibernated it). Even when running it as a task it sometimes disappears after hibernation. Even when setting the task to trigger when the computer wakes from hibernation (via the event log) it isn't always running when I resume from hibernation.

Its the only application that does it but from what I have seen it doesn't always load when I wake it from hibernation. Don't know if its an Everest issue (not sure how it could be honestly) or if its a Windows 7 Hibernation issue. It has been present since the public beta and still does it in 7100. If anyone has any suggestions to try please let me know, its not a major issue but its an inconsistency that gets on my nerves.

.

I don't have this color palette bug you mentioned.

So far, I haven't noticed any bugs. All of the bugs I previously found seem to be squashed.

I found two bugs:

Did you read my solution to your problem in the other thread?

Come on, lets be honest, it makes no damned difference what your score is for Graphics Aero. As long as it's over 2.0, it'll work fine.

I'm not saying it matters, but a bug is a bug.......chances are it will be fixed by RTM.....from what I have heard RC basically means all "show-stopping" are gone, which seems to be the case. Just because the Graphics Aero score means practically nothing doesn't mean its ok to have the score bugged.

that "taskbar" bug happens because the window you had opened has timed out. Any window that you open and has not been opened for a prolonged period of time will no longer show preview. I get this ALL THE TIME. Since i leave my rig on 24x7 i leave applications and folders open but minimized or not in focus, when i hover over the ones i haven't used in like 4hrs + they only show the icon.

So thats why that happens.

has happened in all builds.

There's an option in System Properties/Advanced/Performance to save the preview thumbnail in the list of visuals that you want enabled. This is the only one disabled by default :)

Thumbnail Taskbar Bug - Caused when a theme is changed.

I didn't change the theme or anything. It just happened randomly.

WinSat bug - You overrate your hardware.

Nonsense. Aero Graphics rating worked fine up to 7048, getting 7.9 as it should.

In 7057, WinSat went on the fritz and took a nosedive to 5.9. On 7106 (and 7100) they obviously attempted to fix it, but didn't quite manage, so it went up to 6.8, but not to 7.9 as it should.

Gadget bug - Tell the author. MS isn't going to modify windows for a lone gadget.

The Author has nothing to do with it, this bug is MS' fault alone :pinch:

The gadget worked perfectly fine in 7057. In 7068 MS introduced that bug into their gadget system, and the very same gadget that worked fine in 7057 stopped working properly in 7068. The bug has been around in any builds since then.

I see... however, the window in question didn't have a long period of inactivity, as I had used it last ten minutes ago (at the time of screenshot).

I had that already enabled before that missing taskbar thumbnail appeared.

Like I said, it was the first time it appeared, and it didn't happen since.

    • I wonder how many are laid off for cost savings, and this being blamed on AI to make it sound less scary and bad, for a more positive "modern, with the times" spin for investors? Because Oracle is down 14% the past year. We're looking at a company struggling here. If AI would actually be working out so well for them that they can do massive layoffs, surely this would've been reflected the past year in their stock value?
    • AI is the beginning, wait until real robots replace more jobs, specifically jobs that require physical work.
    • AI is indeed eliminating jobs, and Oracle just proved it by Hamid Ganji There’s no question that AI has become the hottest trend in workplaces, and every company is trying to adopt AI-driven solutions across its operations. While some industry leaders repeatedly say AI won’t lead to massive layoffs, recent data suggest that AI is actually one of the main reasons some companies are reducing their workforce. According to Oracle’s annual regulatory filing, the company has laid off about 21,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, amid increasing AI adoption. “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” Oracle said in the filing. The software giant now has approximately 141,000 full-time employees, a notable decrease from 162,000 during the same period last year. Restructuring expenses, including severance payments, cost Oracle $1.84 billion in fiscal 2026. Additionally, around 49,000 Oracle employees were based in the U.S., while approximately 92,000 were employed internationally. Like many other companies, Oracle has fully embraced AI and concentrated much of its efforts on the technology. The company is also a key participant in the United States’ $500 billion Stargate Project, which aims to build multiple AI data centers across the country. When it comes to AI adoption and its impact on the workforce, opinions remain divided. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, whose company has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, recently said in an interview that attributing job cuts to AI is a “lazy” narrative. “The narrative that connects AI to job loss, for many of the CEOs that are doing it – it is just too lazy. AI has just arrived, how is it possible they're already losing jobs?” Huang said. However, statistics and recent reports tell a different story. According to Layoffs.fyi, 196 tech companies have laid off about 119,800 employees so far this year. Reducing staff and replacing roles with AI agents could become one of the most significant trends in the job market in the years ahead.
