The program is great. It is exactly what I have been looking for.

I just have one issue. When I click on the "Go to your inbox" menu item I get the following error message:

"There was a problem sending the command to the program."

Thanks for your help on this.

Hey, new to this forum after finding this amazing little app - so incredibly useful! :)

Even so, the new mail badge is teeny tiny and impossible to read and I've seen you're looking for ideas so I've just whipped this together quickly in photoshop - what do you think?

And yes, that's 16x16 pixels

EDIT:Actually, that's quite dark - brightened it a bit. Even so, you get the idea :p

Maybe that's something that could be in version 3 someday :)

About the Flip3D thing, it's a known issue and unfortunately, I have no solution at the moment.

Oh well. This is a great little program regardless.

Hm. I think google is being a bit paranoid.

I get signed out of my iGoogle homepage around 2-3 times a day when the notifier is running.

Any way to prevent that?

I get this too. I thought that it was one of my Firefox extensions at first. Maybe we should notify Google? It seems like something they would have to fix on their end.

Brilliant little app. Only one problem: I have my taskbar set to small icons so I can't see the little number bubble. Its quite awkward having to stop what im doing and mouse over the icon just to find out if I have emails.

I know you said earlier that you can't have the bubble when the taskbar is set to small icons, but what about having a monochrome envelope icon when there's no mail, and make it coloured when there is mail waiting in the inbox?

There must be a visual way of showing an email waiting.

I'm pretty sure they can't change the icon.

All I can think (and it would definitely need to be optional as it would look horrible to most people I expect) is to use the icon progress bar, say leaving it off if there's no email, and full green (100%) when there's new mail, perhaps red if there's an error.

The notification bubble only shows if you are using the default "large" taskbar, it is missing if you use small icons mode. ( Which I did. )

Also even in the large icons mode, the notification is WAY TOO TINY!

Is it possible that we can have some sort of flashing when a mail arrives? Sort of like when you get a message on MSN and such?

Your first two points have been discussed... thoroughly in the thread :p

The third would be nice. I kinda overcomplicated it with my suggestion of filling it with a progress bar >.<

Throwing in my 2 cents concerning the mail count overlay.... A pixel font would be easy to read.. the #1 in example font I used, silkscreen, may be confused with a 2..

gmailpixelcount.jpg

Oh, and flashing notification and small icons overlay would be nice [if small icons support overlay].

Yah I did throw that in there even after reading your post and I did assume it wasn't since it's not in already... I can tell you're a tad annoyed with the topic. Do accept my apology?

Lol, sorry. I'm a bit cranky recently. No sleep 2 nights in a row does these things :p But yeah, don't worry about it :)

I completely agree with everyone else. It's quite an awesome little application, but as everyone has mentioned it's next to impossible for me to see the actual number of new emails. It would also be nice (at least for me) if I could double click the icon to go to my inbox.

Sorry to whoever it was that said its not possible to switch icons, but yes it is.

See attachment. The digsby chat window icon changes if they're typing a message to you, and reverts to their buddy icon when they arent.

There we have it, use a MONOCHROME icon for when theres no mail (in small icons mode) and switch it to full colour when there's mail waiting.

Here's a little proof of concept:

EDIT: You could also call some of the code that throbs the taskbar icon rectangles to signify the window's status has changed. Changed the mockup to demonstrate this.

for those who want a system tray notifier use the gmail notifier (Here let me Google that for you) and stop posting here how much you would like this program to be in the system tray, that's not what it does.

if you can't understand that simple concept please don't post. I, and probably daty2k1 and other users, are sick of hearing you wine about how this takes up space in your task bar.

daty2k1, keep up the good work lovin 2.0.3. can't wait for 3.0

Hi, this is my first post here but maybe it's usefull for those "who want a system tray notifier" mentioned above :)

I wrote Spiffy, a notifier that runs in the system tray (it doesn't take any space on your taskbar :p) it's in early stage but doing the job. It's listed on Freewarefiles, Softpedia and some other sites if you wan't to look it up before trying.

Sorry to whoever it was that said its not possible to switch icons, but yes it is.

Well I guess it is possible but it doesn't seem to be working in .NET when the application is pinned :(

Also, to everyone complaining about the size of the overlay, don't worry it's changing in the next version. Hopefully it'll be out tonight.

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
