Is there any way to make it live in the tool tray, rather than in my superbar?

I think that would defeat the point of it using Windows 7's jumplists, thumbnail previews and in-preview controls?

There are other apps which do what you want, but the whole point of this one is being in the taskbar.

Is this the right place to report an error? If not, sorry about it and please repost where it corresponds.

First, as general feedback I couldn't find documentation for this program. Some screenshots or instructions to install would be really helpful (I'm sure someone will correct me on this, but just in case).

I downloaded the ZIP on my Win7 RTM and uncompressed it to the Desktop, launched the executable and after adding a couple of emails (Google Apps) I consistently get the .Net exception added below whenever the application starts. I'm sure I didn't "install" it correctly. Any advice?

PS: Read Scott Hanselman's twitt recommending this tool. High expectations. I'm sure this is just a user error.

Thanks!

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

I just changed my Gmail password, now I can't access the settings window to change it for the app. I click on the 'Change settings' link but nothing happens. I'm using 2.0.3

After you select Change Settings, press ALT+TAB and keep tabbing until you get to the preferences window. This seems to be some kind of window focus issue.

Is it possible to make it only an icon when I have 'Never Combined' enabled? I really want to use it but I don't want it using taskbar space. :(

Well, that's the way the taskbar works unfortunately.

Can you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease make the unread messages number bigger???? I cant see it!

I'd love to but as I said many times, it's very difficult to create a nice icon in such a tiny space :(

What is the limit to the overlays on the taskbar? I'd assumed it was just up to the same res as the main program icon. Is positioning fixed as well?

This is a great little program. I have a feature request. Would it be possible to add a "Mark as read" and "Report Spam" button (optional, of course) next to the inbox/read button?

Additionally, I concur with what has been said many times. It's very difficult to read the overlay icon. Maybe not have the number inside of a circle?

I don't think I'll add this feature (unless I completely rewrite the check mechanism someday :D). Right now, it is using the secured Gmail atom feed so you can't really do much except check for new mails :p

About removing the circle, I tried many times but it looks so bad I couldn't leave it like that. What's your screen resolution?

Anyone having problems with saving settings, specially the sound notification?

I`m using Windows 7 RTM and the target for my shortcut is:

"C:\Users\win7\AppData\Roaming\Gmail Notifier Plus\Gmail Notifier Plus.exe"

I tried launching it in Administrator and saving the settings, but when I close GNP and open it again, the sound notification comes back to "None".

Thanks

That kind of defeats the point of the program, which is to notify you of when an email arrives. Doing the above would make it a mini email client.

I have this problem, too.

Otherwise this is a great program, thank you for taking the time to make it! :woot:

Oh, that's a shame. It would really make things a lot easier.

My screen resolution is 1680x1050. I still think that removing the circle would make the notifier look better, but if not, maybe add more contrast between the circle and text colors? Also, maybe make the text bolder? For instance, the mockups posted by nyolc8 are MUCH easier to read.

One more thing: The program is available as a selection in Flip3D (Win+Tab), which obviously serves no use. Can the program either be excluded from Flip3D, or at least be represented by some static image (much like Flip aka Alt+Tab)? The way it is now, I'm occasionally accidentally switching to your program, rather than my desired window (the window that was behind your program in the Flip3D listing). Thanks!

Not really. MANY of the emails I receive contain the important content in the subject or the first line. Therefore, the preview that's already available is all I need.

Essentially, what I'm asking for is very much a "notifier" feature. I just want a want a way to mark a message as read so that I can clear the notifier without having to log into my email client. That way, the program only notifies me of messages that I actually care about.

I don't know how this feature would make it a "mini email client" any more than the already available preview.

But, this is a pointless argument due to limitations in the protocol.

Because doing what you're asking for is to manage email, albeit it in small fashion, but managing nonetheless, which is beyond the scope of being a notifier :)

for those who want a system tray notifier use the gmail notifier (Here let me Google that for you) and stop posting here how much you would like this program to be in the system tray, that's not what it does.

if you can't understand that simple concept please don't post. I, and probably daty2k1 and other users, are sick of hearing you wine about how this takes up space in your task bar.

daty2k1, keep up the good work lovin 2.0.3. can't wait for 3.0

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
