I think that there are some reasonably large differences here, in some of these shots you can see some of the signature 360 visual signature artifacts (in particular check out things in the background that are blurred heavily to simulate focus). These seem to be done differently in F3.

The reflections seem to be more detailed (I'm sure they still aren't really realtime at full resolution since this isn't a raytracing engine). Lighting is better (probably due to the poly increase). That "rubber meets the road" phenomenon is also better in F3 than in F2's 2006 screens.

Yeah, screenshots have a tendency to look much better then the actual games end up being.

Forza 3 looks very good, but if the teaser trailer of GT5 is telling us anything, it means GT5 will still look better. Gameplay wise that remains to be seen, but if GT5 looks as good as I think it will, and it has what GT3/GT4 offered plus more. There is no way Forza will be able to take the title of best racing game this generation from GT5 (which is the likely winner as always) :)

However the more I look at Forza 3 screenshots all over .. especially compared to Forza 2 I find that Turn 10 guys actaully really killed off reflections on the cars. They look very much matte and quite a bit lifeless. I don't know how it will look in motion but I can definitly see they sacrificed something, not sure if it is on purpose or not.

A comparison between Forza 2 and Forza 3 shots:

TBH I don't know what planet your from mate, but cars don't look like Forza 2, have you honestly ever seen a car looks like Forza 2? no you haven't. it's progress forward to higher level of realism.

The arguement will rage on until both are released. GT5 is holding back on fresh images, and Forza 3 is looking good, but were not RTM yet either. my biggest gripe with Forza 2 was the lack of choice in tracks and that alot of the cars were.... average, while others like the S15 200sx had no bodykit, hello? it's a classic drift car why is there no parts for it? yet something like a old nissan does.... if at RTM time they've increased tracks and cars worth driving with a great degree of customisation i'll be more than impressed.

Heres a shot of the real car, so tell me how have they sacrificed something?

This is just for Boz who put all his faith in Gamestop ;)

We changed our date in our internal system to 12/21/09 btw today (GameStop). It's never usually a real date unless they know something it's always the 1st of a month if they are guessing...so ya this year is looking like a possibility

If its all "free" at "no performance cost" then why are they running the game in 720p?
So as not to cause any unwanted RROD's

But seriously, as you say, if it can do ALL that with no performance loss, why not aim for 1080p ? :D

Because it's a little more complicated than that. The GPU can do it at that resolution, but there will be a performance impact, a large one if it means it can effect the game performance enough. The eDRAM is just a cache between the GPU and the memory, and stuff like AA and HDR can be enabled without any performance loss. It's very complicated and I haven't explain it since I'm getting ready for work. But the eDRAM serves as a different purpose and not geared towards pumping higher resolutions.

I like the lighting better on GT5 but the model looks nicer on Forza :)

Yeah I agree with you there.

GT5.

The series has a huge following for a reason.

Again I agree with this also.. I remeber being a huge fan of the GT series back when I was yonger, very good game series and its come so far to see it at this stage in modelling and graphics wise.

these games are boring!

there is nothing new!

im waiting for those other racing games like split second

Split second is not a racing sim, there is a HUGE difference between that and Forza. If you want to skid round, do multiple flips and smash through a big window etc etc then yes, I'm sure Split Second is great.

Games like Forza aim at a different goal: to achieve a [relatively] realistic simulation of racing cars round real (or realistic) racing circuits. Advances made in these games are more towards better physics, more vehicles and more realistic visuals.

For those saying that Gran Turismo is great because it has a following or because its history.

Does that mean GT1 was horrible because it had no following or history? If GT5 ended up looking like this

poleposition_origine.gif

it would be a better game because of its past?

There are cycles in everything. If you grab onto the "this is great because that was great" way of thinking you are only fooling yourself. This should be great because of THIS.

I like the lighting better on GT5 but the model looks nicer on Forza :) Anymore? :D

Totally agree.. the more I look at Forza 3 shots.. the models and resolution and details are fabulous and definitely better then GT5 but the problem is that cars still look like plastic because of unnatural lighting and it just still looks fake. GT5 guys have perfected this lighting and overall effects trickery so the thing looks absolutely real.

yes thats true, but the core game has barely changed over the years!

damage would have been great and a big jump.....but now its just a more polished GT1 or Forza1 :s

That's because the 'core gameplay' is racing cars around tracks. That's what it is and what it will always be

Not quite sure what you're getting at - damage is included in Forza 2, and will be in 3, and GT5

I'm starting to have doubts about damage in GT5, there is a rumor floating around that there will be only damage in WRC and NASCAR events. There is even circumstantial evidence of this in the E3 GT5 video with a clear collision between two cars and neither were damaged. Could simply be Polyphony just turned the damage off (or hadn't implemented it) in the build of the game the video was taken from or it's a sign of things to come. I'm a big GT fan but I'm starting to feel Polyphony has completely lost the plot. I still plan to buy both GT5 and Forza 3 but I get the feeling Polyphony's complete silence is going to backfire badly on them, if they don't start saying something people won't care about GT5 when it releases...

So this all started because in photomode, the players car graphics and overall look is upped a bit using more AA and so on compared to in-game? Is that right?

If so, I don't see why the moaning is taking place. The game can obviously do this because in playback/photomode/replay etc, it's free to put a little extra processing time on the models compared to the actual in-game race where loads of other things are being processed. It's a simple trade off that has to be made imo. That said the game could've looked better as they say, but it's at 2 DVDs already, they didn't want to make it 3 I'm sure.

I think the big deal would be these images being released and compared against GT5 (haven't really been following the games but just some of the topics on this forum) the impression given was that forza2 had better graphics then gt5 which now remains unknown will have to wait and see ^_^ (unless some gt5 replays have been released?)

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.5 changelog: Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows (DirectSound and ASIO) Fixes several crashes and memory corruption issues Fixes opening several headerless files at once, which previously dropped all but one Improves batch export by suggesting and remembering the destination folder Fixes accented and non-Latin characters in VST plug-in and compressed-archive file names Adds zstd compression support and updates the archive library Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • I did think about a Echo show once and it would be useful to see what my cameras see. But my brother got one and I changed my mind. Adverts and not really worth the price just to see my cameras. I have a load of dots and a Echo Gen 4, they will do.
    • I asking where you are from or live, because if you don't live in the U.K, why are you so bothered? That is another reason I voted out, E.U and people poking their noses in where they should not be. Sadly we still have it, Trump, and his cronies. Putin as well and no doubt others. It makes no difference what we believe, if we made the right choice or not, we are out. As I said to someone when the news first broke we have voted out, we just need to make the best of it. I have no problems with closer ties to the E.U, we still need to trade. Just don't want to be in their club.
    • So you think I voted out because i am anti-immigrant. I am fed up with those that come over and think that we owe them something. The ones that are at the moment coming over from France where they are already in a safe country because they think and no doubt will get everything chucked at them. While people who were born and bred here get very little. I have nothing against as i have said before those that come here and work. In fact I know full well that our NHS would struggle without them. I do have a problem with those that come over here and try to push their religion and their way of life onto us. My reasons for voting out was because of what the E.U is and is also becoming. I did not agree with Freedom of movement, not because I don't want people over here, but because people need to be checked before being allowed to cross borders and that goes both ways. But my main thing was because the E.U is becoming if not already a united states of Europe. The only reason countries like Poland and Romania joined was because they had no money. When my partner left Poland, she had nothing, Poland had nothing, that is why she left. Wanted to learn something and earn a living. The E.U would have us back according to Michel Barnier. https://www.euronews.com/my-eu...ator-barnier-tells-euronews Why are you so scared to say what country you are in?
    • I wonder what that line really meant...
