Aion Online

I'm not entirely sure the point you're trying to make with the quests. Yeah Aion has one main storyline quest that starts pretty much at level one and goes all the way to 50. WoW had nothing like from my experience. If that's not a strong story line I don't know what would be considered strong then. Also they have quests like WoW where you have to do long storyline to unlock certain things like dungeon access and so on. And I'm sure they both have their fare share of completely pointless quests. Also if you're having to grind mobs to level anyways when no quest is present, throwing a quest in there that has no purpose towards a larger goal is fine in my book, it will aid in the leveling and lesson the "grind". In that respect adding random quests that don't have much purpose can't really be considered bad.

Mostly though questing doesn't concern me to much, I see questing as a means to an end. I want to get to max level and kill people. Weather or not a quest has an important purpose isn't to much of an issue for me, although I won't complain if it rewards me with something cool at the end of the story line.

That's one quest line though. LoTRO/WoW has multiple of the same caliber. When I played Aion there was one quest which appeared like it had been written by someone English with a degree in creative writing. The rest felt like they had just been whacked through a google translator and slapped in.

For me if it's a chore to get to cap I'm not going to put the effort in again after WAR and Conan to find out again.

I'm missing this game already :(

I've gotten three classes to 10 or above: Gladiator, Chanter, and Assassin. I'm not sure which I liked most, but I can most definitely say I had fun on all three. I'll probably play the assassin (or start a new one, if there is a wipe before the next weekend) since I didn't have a chance to do more than just get to Pandaemonium.

I'll be waiting patiently for the July 31st weekend.

I understand that but I don't get why you'd think they would have so many open quests with strong story lines so early in the game. I will concede the bad writing in the quest text right now, but you have to concede that the game is still in beta and things like that are supposed to be the entire purpose of why we're playing the game during these events. So that there is a more polished product when the game goes live.

I'm glad a lot of people are liking it. I sadly didn't get a chance to play at all this weekend.

creative writing is a must in the video game industry!

What you expect a person to sit though 20 quests of drivel and kill 9000 of these before things really kick off? LoTRO kicked off things in a most epic fashion shame it began to pewter out round the 25th level.

Been there, done that and I don't believe the bull****. The only time things will change is in Closed Beta. Even then most things are set in stone. When I tested TBC. We must have had a full month or two before it was due to go gold. Everything was done at that point. The odd quest item was missing a name. WAR almost the same. Except we had to put up with the constant fiddling of the cast system (and all we got for it was a lousy title!). PlayNC's open betas are nothing more than glorified demos.

Actually, the whole point of this beta is because they're converting it from Korean/Chinese to English. You can tell they did crappy translations at first to get it ready for testing, but now they're going through and cleaning them up. There's really no other reason for beta testing it beside that.

Find me a quest which has had it's text changed and prove me wrong. You don't need thousands of illiterate fools to proof read for you.

What I hate about WoW, even though I have never played it, is that it steals so many players from playing other games.

I played WoW myself for awhile, and yeah, it's a really good game (honestly, it is), but it's very nice to see someone else pointing this out. I feel like there are plenty of other games, MMO's in particular, out there that deserve attention they aren't receiving because so many are playing WoW instead.

Edit: For some reason I thought that was the last post in the thread. Obviously that's not the case. My apologies if this part of the discussion was done to death.

Well I don't have specific evidence, but you've even noticed the difference between the quality of quest descriptions. I can only imagine that's the reason.

Can't say I have. :s

edit: I've been horribly negative to the game in this last page so I best post something nice. :p

I do hope that other MMOs pick up the 'combo' system. I know it's been done in DAoC in the past but it's nice to see a resurgence with developers implementing it. It gives something diffrent from typical spell rotations. Which is severely lacking in WoW.

It doesn't help that it's summer which is a quiet time for any MMO and that WoW was a curse to the cheap publisher. Where they use to get away with releasing games half finished and patching them up later (ala almost every SOE game released). Players expect quests working and something to do along the way to cap. AoC tried to use this old method and look what happened to that.

That's my point. There are many things that seem poorly/quickly translated, but there are elements here and there that are well done. It seems to me (though obviously none of us know exactly what they're doing) that they're going through and cleaning up the translations. It was my understanding that was the point of this beta.

Warhammer tried to do it too and it's going down just as fast as AoC. I'm fairly certain when Aion goes live WARs servers will be nearly desolate (as if they aren't already). If anything can be gotten out of the failures of AoC and Warhammer it's that they're showing future mmo developers what not to do with their games.

If Aion keeps all those players or not is an entirely different question, though.

Blizzards next MMO and Star Trek too - though made by Cryptic so it might be a shallow puddle of ****.

Ah right, I though had said you'd noticed where they had improved it. My mistake.

Oh, yeah, I've only been playing for two weekends, and I haven't gotten very high, so I don't have any concrete examples (not to mention my memory sucks). I'm simply hoping the quality of everything is brought up to the higher examples that are already in the game. It would be a shame if not :/

As far as I know when our first betas started we were using the english translations that were made for (hacked into) the Chinese version of Aion. Since then they've been refining them...hopefully when the game goes live the translations will be complete, and I think they will be.

Refined translations and what have you along with complete voice overs that as far as I know still aren't in the game (I didn't get to play at all this weekend) will help with the game feeling a lot more complete, I think.

So sending some tweets off to the CMs didn't land me a beta key. :( I guess I'm waiting until open beta before deciding to buy it or not.

Purchasing off of Amazon will get you a key and they still allow you to cancel your pre-order as far as I know (can somebody verify this?).

I'm simply hoping the quality of everything is brought up to the higher examples that are already in the game.

If they are I wouldn't be surprised if they are on the localized pressed discs. That might explain it.

WAR is well on it's way out. Mythic blew their own kneecaps off with the Land of the Dead patch. Aion will take what few subs it has left and the remaining die hard core will likely return to DAoC no doubt. There are loads of reports saying AoC is improving on the other hand. But I, like others, won't give it a second chance. MMOs are a social beast and I'm not returning to a game on my lonesome to get drilled in to the floor by neck beard rejects from Darkfall.

If Lin 2 is anything to go by it will keep a strong an steady core in the western market. Some people really do enjoy these type of games, look up and you'll see some examples! ;)

Hell people play Darkfall for christ sakes. They enjoy getting chased by gangs of PKers who loot all their wares they just spent the last hour obtaining and force them to start from scratch!

People like torturing themselves I guess.

AoC and WaR could have been better if they weren't so overly-hyped by their developers & community, you know - ultimate PVP crap, RvRPvP and all the little things aside..

If Aion does the same, people will expect a highly polished, finished game - and if they get a PORT from Korean/Chinese, they'll leave, I for one won't stand listening to Korean voice acting (or moaning to be precise).

Well there won't be any Korean voice acting... The whole reason we're unable to preview the player voices is because they're switching them over to English voices. That's just one small part, but it shows they're doing a full conversion, no half-assed stuff.

Eh, I feel WAR would simply have been better if they had fixed the few high priority issues with the game.

Overall though, I found it to be pretty damn fun. Shame to see it go down the drain. :(

WARs downfall was that the developers refused to listen to the players about what issues they considered important when it really matter (before mass exodus of players) and instead hoped that releasing a PvE area in an RvR game would settle the masses, at least for a while. Those issues being crappy boring end game content in the form of city sieges that hardly ever worked, with really really really bad class balance thrown in the mix. And then later on down the line refusing to merge servers in a timely manner.

Anyways, the reason there is no voice overs in Aion right now is because they're being completely redone in English. It's not just some crappy port.

    • Exactly, this is just the beginning. I hope that by that time, our inept politicians devise something like a Universal Basic Income, because unemployment and poverty rates will skyrocket otherwise. And believe me, robots that perform physical work aren't a matter of IF, but WHEN. No career is truly safe from AI/robots, it's just a matter of time.

Subtitle Edit 5.0.0 changelog: Subtitle Edit 5 is a major new release and a big step for the project. For the first time, Subtitle Edit runs natively on Windows, macOS, and Linux from a single, modern, cross-platform codebase. The builds are self-contained, so no separate .NET installation is required, and on macOS and Linux the needed media components (mpv/ffmpeg) are bundled in. Please read before upgrading: Subtitle Edit 5 is a new application, not just an update of Subtitle Edit 4. It has been rebuilt from the ground up to be cross-platform, so: It is not 100% the same app. The look, layout, and some workflows have changed. Some things are in different places, and a few behave differently than in SE4. Not every SE4 feature exists in SE5 yet. SE5 covers all the core editing, conversion, sync, video playback, OCR, and online services, but some of the more specialized SE4 tools are not available yet. Features will continue to be added. If you rely on a specific SE4 feature that is missing, please keep SE4 installed alongside SE5. The easiest way to run both side by side is to use the Portable versions of SE4 and SE5, which keep their settings separate and do not interfere with each other. Which version should I use? Subtitle Edit 5: recommended for most users on Windows 10 (22H2) or newer, macOS 12+, and Linux. Subtitle Edit 4: please continue to use SE4 if you are on an older Windows version (Windows 7/8), or on older / slower computers where SE5 may not run well. SE4 remains available and is the right choice in those cases. To run SE4 and SE5 at the same time, use the Portable versions - you can try SE5 while keeping SE4 as a fallback. • Google Pixel 11 series: Here's what to expect by Hamid Ganji Google Pixel 10 series In recent years, Google has successfully turned its Pixel devices into worthy contenders in the smartphone market. The search giant is now preparing to launch the Pixel 11 series in just a few months, and many Pixel fans are likely wondering what Google has in store for them this year. The next lineup of Google smartphones includes four devices: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. This year, we don’t expect Google to bring revolutionary upgrades to its handsets, and the Pixel 11 series is likely to receive modest hardware improvements alongside a slew of AI-powered features. Here are the rumored specifications of the Google Pixel 11 series ahead of its official debut: When will the new Pixel phones be unveiled? The last two generations of Google Pixel phones (Pixel 9 series and Pixel 10 series) were launched in August, unlike the previous three generations that debuted in October. With that in mind, we expect Google to unveil the Pixel 11 series sometime in August 2026. The exact launch date has yet to be confirmed. Google Pixel 11 CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines How much will the Pixel 11 series cost? Predicting the final price of upcoming smartphones has become increasingly difficult. As you may know, RAM and memory prices are rising sharply, leading to significant increases in the cost of consumer electronics. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that price increases for some future Apple products are unavoidable, suggesting that the iPhone 18 series could become more expensive. Google has remained tight-lipped about any potential price increases for the Pixel 11 series. If the company manages to maintain last year’s pricing structure, here’s what the lineup could cost: Pixel 11: $799 Pixel 11 Pro: $999 Pixel 11 Pro XL: $1,199 Pixel 11 Pro Fold: $1,799 Given current market conditions, it may be difficult for Google to avoid raising prices unless it adopts cost-saving measures, such as equipping the base model with 8GB of RAM. Google Pixel 11 series anticipated specs: We expect the Google Pixel 11 series to debut with a new Tensor G6 processor as well as an upgraded camera system. The overall design, however, is expected to remain largely unchanged across the lineup. However, a patent filed by Google suggests the company is working on a removable battery for its smartphones, and we could see this feature make its way to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Given that nearly all smartphones today lack removable batteries, such a feature would be a welcome addition to future Pixel devices. That said, it may not arrive with this year’s lineup after all, and the final decision is yet to be made by Google. The Pixel 11 series could also face an uphill battle in the market. In the Android segment, Samsung is performing well with the Galaxy S26 series, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup is also expected to launch next month. On the other hand, Apple is preparing to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September alongside its first foldable iPhone.
