Aion Online

Yeah. WoW players might not like the fact that you actually have to play the game. I haven't played the official wow in a while, but I had a friend who went from level 1 to 80 in about a month. He told me there was some sort of exp bonus.

A bonus. You sissies need bonuses. :-D

Well, are you a WoW player that is used to being spoon-fed experience at an accelerated rate? If so, pretty much any other level-based MMO will seem like a horrible grind to you.

I've played pretty much mmo you can name,

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, Anarchy Online, Asheron's Call, Asheron's Call 2, Champions Online, Chronicles of Spellborn, The, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dark Age of Camelot, Dofus, Dragonica, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Dungeon Runners, Eve Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Final Fantasy XI, Free Realms, Guild Wars, Lineage, Lineage II, The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, MapleStory, The Matrix Online, Priston Tale, RF Online, RuneScape, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, World of Warcraft and it's two expansions.

All of which, I've leveled at least one toon to at least 10, some more..

So I'm used to the grind, but this one just seems.. slow.

Well the version that we're playing in the betas is not the version that is going live. The 1.5 patch that we'll be playing live adds tons more quests and dungeons and so on. So I don't think it will be as slow when the game goes live as it is now. Another thing is that we'll be getting more exp per quest too. I don't know if they adjusted exp for killing things though.

Aion is looking pretty sweet. Much more polished that warhammer, Better than that piece of garbage known as AoC.

I am def looking forward to it. I got in the beta a few days before it closed (Waiting till the 14th for the new beta).

I really like the skill chain aspect. Reminds of FFXI :)

I just hope it won't go by the wayside for me since I do not have any real life friends who are going to play it.

*shameless recruitment plug* You can join the legion I'm in. We're playing on the Asmodean side. It's called Dark Order.

Our recruitment thread on aionsource.com:

http://www.aionsource.com/forum/asmodian-l...al-sanctum.html

Yeah Dark Order isn't the most creative name but due to the 10 character limit in Legion names we had to change it.

Anyone else who wants an Asmodean Legion is welcome to join too!! We need sorcs I think. We haven't determined what server we'll be playing on live yet. I don't know if they've released the server names but I assume the ones we have for betas will be in the list though. Oh yeah, our aim is the be a fairly casual legion that won't require you to play 10+ hours a day.

Tagging this. I plan on playing a Sorc :D

So basically we're testing the game at Exp 1.0 and it will be released at Exp X.X, how smart of them to do so.. if that's what you mean.

We're testing localization and server stability and not game play because the game has already been out for almost a year in Korea. Any game changes will come from there not NCsoft West. So there's no need for us to test the most up to date version. Also gives us something to look forward to on Sept 22nd. Or the 20th for those of us that pre-ordered.

Oh yeah, CBT 6 will not have the level cap adjusted past 30. For all that matters, I haven't made a character past 12 yet though.

Its kinda funny how some people are saying there is a bit of a grind, when you can make a character, and have him at level 30 in 2 weekends. How fast do you guys want to leveling process to be?

Tragedy, it only gets better the higher you go.

People don't know what grind is until they've played Ultima Online, EverQuest before Shards of Luclin, or Final Fantasy XI before Wings of the Goddess.

At the time that final fantasy online was first released WoW wasn't even around. That's the time I was referring to.

Either way, very few people I know think wows graphics are noteworthy. Seriously, for the money they bring in there is absolutely no reason why they can't seriously revamp the graphics. The updates and expansions have been pretty much a joke. They are sitting on billions of dollars of profit on the game, and it still looks like garbage. It's still practically the same as the day it was released. Recently I played on a few various free servers and even for free I couldn't get into the game.

With all the next gen consoles out there and the potential for amazing graphics, I think aion is going to dominate at first glance and if they get the gameplay down pat, then blizzard is in for a serious wake up call.

i think you live under a rock, blizzard did some Revamping lately, did you notice the ultra high or whatever button, you can press it if you can hold the pressure with your computer, the problem is that unlike crysis it serves to a bigger crowd, one that many of it rather play a Playble game at 30fps then sink at 5, not everyone can hold that, for example, i loved wow since i could play with my laptop with no lags as long as i didn't go high qaulity, but myself its all about the gameplay mainly, the graphics are fine by me, im not a hardcore gamer and i don't play wow anymore, i played a couple of months ago one month, its a rebound, happens, but still, wow graphics aren't so bad, but the game is pretty old(Vanila), they can't simply bump an existing World a Notch that easily, from the Players to practically doing it, Blizz will know when its a good time to bump it for everyone, when they see in the statistics that a very high precentage will be able to handle it with zero problems, until that day comes i can't see a MASSIVE overhaul, because they simply can't afford it to them self,

come on, i haven't seen a game close to that graphics run on my laptop, RTCW barely runs, and its basically flat textures and 1D leafs.

Sorry for spelling mistakes, can't be bothered to correct it

If anyone is playing Aion and is looking for a great Legion to join, Avalon is looking for new people. You can find us online at http://avalon.aionarena.com or http://aionarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11676 for more specific information. ^^

I recently joined and they seem to be a great group of people, anyone looking to level up with a fellow neowanian go ahead and apply and hope to see you in game! I'm super pumped for release!

I really don't have much time on my hands, so I can play one mmo at best. If I have to chose only one mmo, will this be a good choice?

Also, how hard is it to level up, how much satisfaction you get from this game?

That's pretty much an impossible question for us to answer. What one person gets out of a game may not be what another gets out of the game. If you play casually you can't expect to do it all and see it all. But, I don't think the game will be that hard to level in with the 1.5 patch that the game is going live with. I've also heard that the open beta will use the 1.5 patch as well. So you can definitely see how it's going to be if/when the open betas start up. However I'm not sure they are going to have them anymore because there's around 4 weeks until the game goes live.

Google > you

Bad reply is bad. I've always subscribed to the idea that if you don't have anything helpful to say don't say anything at all. But that's probably just me..

I had to preorder it. It looks astounding and has extreme potential. I hope to god I can get my friends from playing WoW any longer to give this a fair chance. What do you guys think? How many of you are putting WoW on hold to give this a shot?

I haven't read too much on it, but it looks phenominal, however, as WoW has shown, graphics mean jack... WoW is like playing a disney game. The community is whats holding it together at the moment.

I played for one weekend during their closed beta cycle. It is a beautifully rendered game. The engine is a customized version of the Crytek 1 engine and they have exploited it to the max. I do have very good graphics cards so I cannot speak to the performance on more middle of the line cards but would expect iot to still run quite well.

The flying skill is very interesting and adds a great new twist to game play and combat. Some will not like this but most will, I think enjoy the challenge. I also think NCSoft is making a mistake by not opening up the beta to everyone, or at least to more players to let people try before they buy. Dropping 50 bucks for a game and getting a month to play before you either pony up monthly fees or drop it is really hard to accept without knowing before hand you are going to enjoy it.

I don't like WoW for the most part (too cartoony and too many rude players) and hope this does knock it down a notch or so.

For good reviews on MMOs I trust WWW.MMORPG.COM and they have extensive forums and articles on Aion as well as just about every other MMO there is.

Press Release:

Players are now one step closer to the release of the year's biggest massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Aion.

Within the next four weeks, NCsoft will treat North American and European gamers to two opportunities to jump into the world of Aion and explore Atreia as Asmodian or Elyos characters ahead of its release in North America on September 22 and Europe September 25. Aion's Open Beta Test featuring version 1.5 will take place September 6 - 13 and will include numerous Western enhancements, including improvements to Aion's innovative character customization with a host of Western styles, as well as new zones, instances, skills, quests and continued game balancing and improvements. Open Beta will retain a level cap for both Elyos and Asmodians characters at 30 allowing players to focus on getting to the same level so they can explore the lands of Atreia together, as well as the Abyss.

Players who have preordered Aion will be treated to a Pre-Select and a two-day Headstart period giving them the opportunity to explore, organize and progress through the game prior to the official launch. Pre-Select will take place on September 18, while Aion's Headstart will begin September 20. Players can still participate in the Aion's Pre-Select and Headstart programs by preordering the game through several participating online and brick-and-mortar retailers, including Aiononline.com, Amazon, Best Buy, EB Games Canada, Fry's Electronics, GameStop, Steam and Target.

Unlike any MMO before it, Aion is a uniquely crafted online experience where flight offers much more than just a way to explore the landscape - it is a strategic and integral part of combat, quests, and exploration. Players will dive into battle and plunge through thousands of unique, story-driven quests, all while trying to save a world literally shattered in half from centuries of brutal conflict. Using one of the most flexible and in-depth character customization systems ever featured in an MMO, players will be able to create genuinely distinct characters and explore a visually stunning world of ethereal beauty brimming with otherworldly inhabitants, mysterious enemies, and ancient secrets.

For more information about Aion go to http://www.aiononline.com.

Oh yes, and if you pre-order/beta test and you attach your Aion account to your Guild Wars account you get an exclusive emote in Guild Wars. Note, that's not Guild Wars 2. More info here: http://www.guildwars.com/aion/

Edit: my info for the Guild Wars is a bit wrong. Just read through the webpage for the correct info on it.

    • I wonder how many are laid off for cost savings, and this being blamed on AI to make it sound less scary and bad, for a more positive "modern, with the times" spin for investors? Because Oracle is down 14% the past year. We're looking at a company struggling here. If AI would actually be working out so well for them that they can do massive layoffs, surely this would've been reflected the past year in their stock value?
