Playstation 3 Slim spotted in the wild?

Recommended Posts

When we had sky years and years ago, we used to get RTL. It's a German media company, like their version of the BBC or Channel 4 I guess.

Apparently this came along with that leaked image from earlier

Today French site PS3Gen (linked above) have posted what reportedly is a leaked document which appears to confirm both a PS3 Slim model and PS3 price drop this September.

The document is available below and to quote, roughly translated:

"Now Slim or PS3 price drop? Both, Sir!

Several contacts "unofficial" we have confirmed that the two first arrived in September. Slim version is already present in the database under the name "PlayStation 3 SLIM and is posted to 299 ?.

No real news for the current version but it seems impossible that his price is not revised downwards otherwise, it would sell more. The Slim is even informally already pre-booked in some shops!

It should be noted that other "offers" PS3 is scheduled for the end of the year after the planning, but it would be, according to our sources, bundles and other offers promotions that are specifically made by this retailer.

This announces Gamescom much spice, and a very nice beginning!"

299 euros is around ?250, but keep in mind the Euro PS3 has always been more expensive than the UK PS3 since launch.

I just pre-ordered the slim@299,99€ at Micromania (largest french videogames retail stores).

Anyone on Neowin from France?

They're already taking preorders for it?

In advance yes.

They have the date(sept. 1st) and price on their database :)

Also

French Retailer: PS3 Slim will launch at €299

So, we have some details from a French retailer on the PS3 Slim.

Number one, the PS3 is confirmed according to an interview with a French retailer on Jeux Video Network.

When asked about the PS3 Slim, the retailer responded:

"Yes, the PS3 Slim is a reality, it will soon emerge."

The retailer was apparently informed about the console only a week ago from wholesalers and it's all very secretive. A release date is not confirmed, but it's expected for September. They haven't yet seen what the console actually looks like, the size of its harddrive is also unconfirmed, and possible bundles have yet to be discussed.

However, it's surprising to hear that the PS3 Slim's price will be €299 from launch. The dealer believes that since retailers are aware of this price, they are chopping their current PS3 stock to €299 prematurely in order to make room for the Slim. This would perhaps explain the Spanish and Italian offers we've spotted online.

Another comment from someone that works in retail

Well guys, the official announcement is finally coming.

Can't wait to see the official pics and comparison with the old fat model, I'm also looking forward to see the 'inside' of the new model.

The old 80GB stock is basically non existent at this point, it's almost made of old bundles leftovers so retailers here are starting to clear it at 299? even with a free game in.

But it's all about the Slim in early September but probably it will be availlable in the last week of August just like happened with the 80GB last year).

Yes like I said in July my retail source confirmed the price it's 299? and it's officially coming on September 2 (although unofficially it could be available in stores a week earlier).

Old stock has already been mostly cleared at the old price as it would cost too much money to Sony to sell huge amounts of 80GBs at 299?, so the strategy of keeping a different price for the two different models a few people were considering here has no sense at this point, there's simply not enough stock and too much money to lose to do it. Basically it's new model and price in a matter of weeks and that should :p it :p

We're going to know everything about this before it's announced, :laugh:laugh:

Ars mole re-caps things

PS3 Slim all but official with leaks, rumors, and scans galore

The Mole has told us it's coming, and the International tech press has been in overdrive with rumors, leaks, and scans pointing to the existence of the PS3 Slim. We round up the latest news and conclude that now is not the time to buy a PS3.

The talk of a slimmed down version of the PlayStation has been around for a long time, with our favorite inside source laying down the timeline for the system as well as what would happen before the hardware's launch. It looks as if more and more of the prophecy is coming true, with a new mountain of evidence pointing towards the upcoming release of new PS3 hardware. "I'd love to live in a world with fewer leaks and more meat," Sony's John Koller told Ars when we brought up the rumors of the PS3 Slim, saying that the story of what Sony is doing today is much more interesting than any rumor. He has a point. Almost all of these stories feel?forgive the wording?thin when viewed alone. Taken together, however, and you begin to see a clear pattern: Sony is getting ready to produce new hardware.

A leaked note from a Japanese retailers shows no more 80GB models being available from Sony after August 9. "As the 160GB edition isn't sold in Japan, the move would leave the retailer without any PS3s until a future revision," Electronista reports. This correlates with what the Mole told us in June: the 80GB models will become hard to find, 160GB models will be the next to go, and then the retail channel will be clean for a more unified product line... which will include the Slim.

As that happens, it wouldn't be surprising to see price cuts and bundles on the 160GB models, such as the $50 savings seen at Amazon[/urlProductions costs drop, new parts are being ordered

Digitimes is reporting that orders for components used to create the PS3 hardware are way up, almost as if the company is beginning a whole new batch of consoles. "Taiwan OEMs recently have placed significant orders for key Sony PS3 components from IC distributors... double the average in the second quarter, according to sources with IC distributors," the site claims.

During a recent financial call, Sony also revealed that the cost to manufacture the console is way down. "The cost reduction since we introduced the PS3 is very substantial and this is on schedule,? Nobuyuki Oneda Sony Corp's CEO and Executive Vice President stated on the call, as reported by TotalVideoGames. While he declined to comment on specific numbers initially, he finally admitted the cost has dropped around 70 percent.

That gives Sony plenty of room to drop the price on hardware, and if the components on the inside of the system are being integrated into a tighter design, it's more evidence for the SSo what does all this tell us?s?

The Mole told us what to look for before its announcement, and all the signs are being revealed. He told us to expect the news of the system after E3 so Sony can clear the retail channels, and that we'd see the system for the first time in August or September. Gizmodo believes that the system will be shown off at the gamescom expo in Germany, taking place on August 18.

That makes sense, but whether or not we see the system in two weeks it's pretty clear that new PS3 hardware is coming. If you don't have a PS3, our advice is to hold off on a purchase to see what the new hardware offers as well as what kind of price drop Sony is planning for the standard units.

Fed up recycling the same rumour, new source, but this is the first one that mentions potential colours @ launch

They want the Game Stop employees know that the PS3 slim in three different colors will be available. These are black, red and white. Saturn employees had only an order exist and did not know what color it is.

An appointment is, however nioch not clear the goods but can now be ordered to dealers.

Black and white, okay, but red, wtf? Worst colour ever. Should be Black/White/Silver if they're doing multiple colours.

Speculation as to what Rocksteady are blurring from their Batman behind the scenes...

I'd guess they're just blurring out all the dev kits they're using. Looks like the one closest in that show is a standard PS3, given it's size relative to the the monitor next to it.

Why would they blur out dev kits?

The only thing I can think of is if this behind the scenes was somehow for the 360 or PS3 version they may blur the other consoles dev kits? As there really is no reason to blur a dev kit, we see them all the time.

Also, price cuts happening..
