I can't see how it's not possible to move to IPB3?

This isn't meant as an offensive remark to the devs but how could it just not be possible?

Maybe it just needs more time, but good try guys, I really liked the way things were looking :( (Y)

Well something caused a huge load on the server after the switch. And it wasn't possible to find and solve the problems in reasonable time. So now they are probably hard working to find it and try to solve it with help from the debugging and server logs during the last few days.

Maybe there need to be a fix done with IPB, who knows.

how come this same issue didn't happen when it was tested then? Is it simply due to the amount of users online at any one time on the main site, or would the high load issue still be there with few online users?

I think it was a combination of the 9 million posts and the amount of users neowin get. The test server didn't have the 9 million posts, but they apparently ran some load tests which went fine.

Either way though, even when the board was offline there was still a massive load on the server, and they haven't really found out why yet.

This Finity skin is a lot easier on the eyes, with the contrast between the blues, and the topic titles are also A LOT easier to see and read. I was really annoyed with the Atlas theme.

I actually liked it, especially the Black skin :p

I actually prefer the width of the current forums than IPB3. It looked like Atlas looked two blocky or heavy since posts looked like they took up too much space on my screen (1920x1200).

I am not a fan of the wide screen experience myself. I found myself resizing my browser window to make it smaller. It looks so much better not stretched

Still having some random problems with the forums though. Avatar and personal pictures keep disappearing, and the forums seem to be running slower than normal. I even got an IPS database error message earlier. Possibly some glitches while restoring the backup??

I feel the same. I was thinking of creating (or getting hold of) a Stylish script which would ensure the width of the forums is the same as the width of the main site :D I value consistency a lot and the wider width just doesn't look nice, in my opinion :)

Not a bad idea.

I myself like the wide version since I'm on a 21.5" Mac that can use such sizes on a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The Neowin Staff/Devs/Supervisors etc deserve a good vacation, but I just gave my last one out the other day so someone else will have to pitch in. :) With all that went on, I am sure that Invision is probably as stressed as the people here who are involved with the transition behind the scenes.

Sure, they could dump IPB altogether and go with a more robust platform whatever that may be, or go with Phpbb, SMF, MyBB, etc...but will they get the same control over the ability to customize it to meet the community's requirements? That, I am sure remains to be seen and is probably going to be talked about in one of the meetings. One thing which is certain is that Invision Power Board is now very enlightened to a potential weakness of their programming in the 3.x software. After all, Neowin is a paying customer for the license fees and paying a company for software is motivation for them to fix bugs to prevent a loss of their revenue in annual renewal fees.

It is way too easy for those who are on the outside such as myself or the hundreds of thousands of regulars here to forget that Neowin isn't just on some guy's server sitting in their garage or bedroom. It is a project of "love" for those involved behind the scenes. I for one am glad that Neowin didn't sell out to a corporate monster to be controlled by them where the flow of money is seemingly endless, and probably where the Atlas upgrade would have been scrapped at the table.

I appreciate the efforts and having spearheaded some massive upgrades before like this myself (Software not, web server side) in my professional life, I can surely appreciate the pains involved. Please staff/team, go take a break, GET SOME SLEEP, take a mini vacation away from here for a little bit. One of you will probably have one of those "Ah-ha!" moments halfway through it because your mind is cleared. :)

The way I understand it, is that it's a server side problem. They are properly configured now, but somehow conflict with IPB3. It's some code that causes errors between the server and the software.

Over time should that be fixable because I'd really liked the new forums? :(

I don't mind if I need to wait months rather than weeks, I just don't want to hear the staff saying no you're stuck with what you've got now forever :p

Everything is fixable in some way or another. I doubt they'll just throw away a few months of work because of a nasty bug. I assume that they're still working with Invision to restart the upgrade. We'll just have to be patient I guess. :)

At least we can still use the forums, though not in the fancy new skin. But at the end of the day, it's about the spam and the fun of the forums. How they look is secondary. :p

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
