It's tricky to pinpoint something like this, it's thousands of little files and hundreds of scripts, and loads of database entries, and server settings and whatnot.

Maybe in the future when things will be dire. When is Neowin usually at it's quietest anyway?

... IPB3 is raping the database though....

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

While I appreciate all the effort that went into Atlas and IPB3, I have to agree with others here, I wasn't overly fond of the new forum. Perhaps there is some way of porting elements of the new theme into IPB2 so that it ties into the front page a bit better?

I really liked the new Atlas theme, but I'm unsure what features IPB 3 brought. What features are we missing?

As a Sub I could test the test forum running on Atlas and trust me, it's very more "fresh".

The "Spy" feature is very nice, think of an auto-refresh page spotting new posts and new comments on news.

I think the new Blog software had the possibility to update the local blog from an external source, which was pretty cool.

I don't remember all the changes tho, but trust me, it was for the best.

its a difficult call, also you dont know what server resource the other 3.0 forums have. That being said im sure Invision would have had feedback if it wasnt scalable. They are a VERY sound outfit with a very robust software package. On release date for a big product launch their own forums have 1-2k people. Even now they have 700 online.

I run and code/ manage another big invisionboard forum and havent as yet upgraded to 3.0 but I know there code inside out and I think over time you will see more big boards move to Invision.

The one thing I miss is truly WYSIWYG on Chrome.

BTW, the Atlas-ish skin is awesome :D

Edit: But... I can't keep it because it has no "Latest Forum Activity" :(

Yeah it's amazing how much you miss that. I've just switched back too.

Are you guys talking about the updated box at the top of the forum?

Or the page for all new posts?

I like this (old) layout much much much better than what I saw of the new one.

Why fix it if it ain't broke

People really do use the "why fix what isn't broken?" phrase in the wrong context, way too often. A fine example is when idiots say it when Facebook change their design. Changes like what the Neowin forums when through and which Facebook keep implementing are all to do with improving the experience, not "fixing" it. You might ask "why fix what isn't broken?" but if you state that in situations like this, you must also agree with never improving everything? If that was the case with all web-based businesses, we would still be using the first Facebook design, with none of the features which were adding later ('liking' posts, tagging people in statuses, the link sharing feature, post comments etc). Likewise, InvisionPowerBoard would come, standard, without a lot of the features you enjoy today (even those on IPB 2).

It makes a lot of sense to keep improving the design of websites and adding functionality to them; you may not always like it, but others (usually the silent majority) will.

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
