Phil Schiller, in the back room, gets to be the guinea pig. He's on Steve's iChat buddy list, and he clicks on the camera icon next to Phil's picture. A preview window of Steve shows up, then Phil's window shows up, with Steve's preview moved to the bottom right corner of the Phil window. You can resize the window, or even make it full-screen. Phil's doing some corny thing with a football and saying "go long!" Charming. "I can call Phil up at 11:00 at night," Steve says to laughter.

Now Steve demonstrates an audio conference to Paris.

      iChat AV does not recognize audio from the iSight camera if you connect it when iChat AV Public Beta is already open.

DISCUSSION

      Symptom

            You are unable to select the iSight built-in microphones.

            This occurs if you connect an iSight camera while iChat AV (Public Beta) is open.

      Products affected

          o iChat AV (Public Beta)

          o iSight

          o Mac OS X 10.2.5 or later

      Solution

            1. Quit iChat AV (Public Beta)

            2. Open iChat AV (Public Beta) with the iSight connected.

iChat sold for jaguar, included in panther

Today, iChat AV is Mac-to-Mac only, but it's standards based, so "as others . . . copy us" (said to laughter), it'll be available to others. A beta is being released today and will work on Jaguar or Panther. The beta expires on December 31.

that improvement for ichat sounds good though it sounds a lot like the features msn messenger 6 is incorporating. goodness all around for everyone :D

What we have seen today are just a few of the over 100 new features in Panther. And all WWDC attendees are getting a preview copy today. Panther will be $129, and will ship before the end of the year.

Runs on Panther and Jaguar. Apple will release a free beta of iChat AV today. It will $29 for Jaguar users and free in Panther after beta.
