how long does it take to get through the series...Haven't watched a single episode and, tbh, not sure I want to.

Binge clock has it at 2 days, 15 hours and 30 minutes.  That seems to check out ... 67 episodes at roughly 60 minutes each.

Worth it...though not sure you'd want to do all that before April 14th.

a while. I got into it around season 3 and I binged the first 2 seasons shortly after.

totally worth it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Nothing? I enjoyed the season premier.

Spoilers below....

Spoiler

I liked how it mirrored season 1, episode 1.  Also enjoyed lots of dragon screentime. I do wonder that once Daenerys finds out Jon is the true King ... if she'll go all medieval on him or cease their relationship. Maybe the dragons will dump Dany for Jon? Doubt Dany will be excited with the revelation...

Last scene between Jaime and Bran was perfect.

Spoiler

Good thing the Targaryens are already cool with incest. Isn't she like his aunt?

I find it hard to get excited about Dany and most of Jon. They're both kinda vanilla ice cream. Dany should be cool with her story and the dragons, but she's just... void. (I'm not a HUGE fan of the show, just a casual fan)

I like the dynamic between Sansa and Arya more. Plus the murderkilling Arya does. That's awesome. She's going to totally go after Jaime, can't wait. I think the others will make her not kill him in his sleep though (or push him out a window, that'd be cool)

The whole "how are you going to feed the armies" issue may be irrelevant, I don't think many of them will live long enough to eat much.

It was so good that it felt like 10 minutes had gone by. So many reunions, so many good scenes. It's a shame that we also didn't get a more secondary reunion between...

Spoiler

... the Mormonts!! Lady Lyanna and Jorah are cousins. It would be cool to see just a small scene between the two.

Spoiler

It was a well done episode, only time will tell how things end with Jon knowing what he does now.  We still have loads of other things to take care of first, who is on the throne at the end is, well, for the end.  If anyone is on it that is.

Well, if people weren't happy about last week's pacing, they aren't going to be happy this week.

Spoiler

But still, some of the reunions were nice, and I suppose that is the last deep breath before things kick off.

Arya is all grown up. Funny that murder is far less shocking than sex.

Edit; Also, I was kinda right about Sansa v. Dany probably being a thing in the end game. That should be interesting, given the relationships involved on both sides. Poor Jon.

Haven't seen the ep yet, will in a little bit.  I figure though that things will pick up and go very fast in the middle, then the last episode will slow down as we wrap things up.

I don't see the issue?  The first ep was reunions that fans expected, episode 2 is about the characters, this is probably the last time we see many of them together.   Also good development for characters like Arya, Jon and so on.

Spoiler

Everyone talking about how they weren't ready to see Arya get nude, lol.  I knew where the scene was headed the moment it started.

I didn't expect Jon to tell Dany the truth though, but she's in full denial mode to start.  I mean it's clear, there would be no way he'd be able to ride a dragon otherwise, let along get close enough to pet one.

The show will be in overdrive for episode 3 and 4 I bet, come back down a bit in ep5 till we get this sort of slow pace to end things in 6, IMO.

Spoiler

#3 should be really good.   Big battle scene coming up and cannot wait.  I am sure we will see some main characters killed off as well.   Then after this, and depending on who wins, show down with Kings Landing.  My guess is the white walkers will win the batter at Winter Fell, then a lot of the main characters will go after them and the final batter will be at Kings Landing.  But who knows for sure.

I have a bad feeling they will waste episode three giving the background story of the white walkers or the white king.... :/ I hope I am wrong, as I am ready for some action

Nah, we're going into battle in episode 3.

Spoiler

The preview for episode 3 shows that they're fighting.  I also expect at least 2 characters we saw in ep2 going down in ep3.

If you think about it the battle with the white walkers shouold be a simple one.  The advantage they have is in numbers.  But if you can somehow get close to the generals if not the king himself, and take them out, then the numbers disadvantage goes away.   Jon has the right idea, it's just execution.  Hell, I'd take some of the best archers you have and try to get close enough to take out as many as you can.  Depending on how many they've turned taking out just one general could drop a few thousand walkers.

I would be fine with the pacing if it weren't the last season and they weren't doing so few episodes.

Though I understand that the past two weeks, they had to do a lot of bringing characters together and have them interact, sometimes for the first (and last) time. It was kinda answering "gee, I wonder what would happen if X met Y", and they had to get through a lot of them, since this is the last time they will get screen time (either because they die or because the story will just move on, there isn't much time left for the minor characters, like Davos). Plus, the acting was pretty great all around. The scenes around the fireplace were great.

People are losing their ###### about Arya, lol

Spoiler

I would almost expect that to be the end of Gendry, but then... he is the future of House Baratheon. And if it may be implied that if he hooks up with Arya permanently... that is back in play, which is interesting.

My theory on who will survive is that the heads of every house will. I'm not sure if Jon or Dany will die or if they will both survive and hook up permanently. Kinda hoping for death for one of them.. Since Jon told Dany but neither of them had time to process the fallout, or tell anyone else...

And with Jon moving to Targaryen, that makes Sansa the sole head of House Stark. Arya is definitely going to the next battle (I think her face wearing will be a very important plot point in the finale), but I see her as Sansa's enforcer in the end of things.

Either Sam or Tyrion definitely survive all of it. Probably both. The entire framing relies on one of them telling the story, highlighted by the line about survival only mattering if someone remembers to tell the story, and Tyrion interviewed Bran. I would say Bran lives, but if Tyrion got his story, I'm not entirely sure.

$5 on the Night King being dragon-nuked but living. And since Jon can ride a dragon now, $5 on that being involved.

Spoiler

You have to go with Jons character though, he doesn't want to be a king or in so much power.  He's been put in these situations and doing the best he can.  So if they're both alive I think he'll just let her have it and move on.  Jon would make the better ruler though, IMO.  He's not as quick to kill people who don't agree with him like Dany is.  He wouldn't have burned Sams dad and brother like that, probably locked them up.

I don't think that Dany is a good leader at all. Without people like Jorah tempering and guiding her and three giant dragons she'd have failed a dozen times over. I don't see her winning.

How about some death predictions for next week  (may contain minor spoilers)

Spoiler

Grey Worm - All the talk about retiring ... Unsullied commander ... front line.  100% dead

Lyanna Mormont - Yea, she is going to fight soooo - 100% dead

Eddison Tollett - Just a few remaining from night's watch - 100% dead

Theon Greyjoy - Protecting Bran Stark will be overwhelmed ... Bran somehow survives - Theon - 85% dead

Jorah Mormont - Received Heartsbane - 85% dead

Tyrion Lannister - Gonna be down in the crypt - 51% dead

Lord Varys - Gonna be down in the crypt - 51% dead

Sir Brienne of Tarth - 51% sure she is dead after being knighted

Wild cards - Sansa or Arya Stark -  Have a bad feeling.

Safe (for this episode) - Daenerys, Jon, Cersei, Bran, Hound ...

....just about everyone in the crypt ... the crypt is going to be bad (death is already there).

Spoiler

Agree on most of those.

But I think Tyrion is safe, as a primary storyteller and because he'll be relevant to King's Landing later.

Arya and Sansa, I'd be entirely shocked by. They've both had far too long storylines and have more to do. The people killed off so far aren't just random, they are cogs in the story. The shock is that they are main characters. i don't see anything being moved by Arya and Sansa's deaths. I think they are 100% safe. Plus I have my theory about all of the houses surviving, so I think Lyanna will make it, too.

Not sure about Jorah. Dany doesn't have many people "on her side", but on the other hand, he did have that scene giving her advice and talking about not being her Hand, which could be a conclusion of that relationship.

The Hound, I'd rate as likely to die.

Spoiler

I edited my post ... meant to type Arya or Sansa (not both) ... and just wildcards.  I would put most of money on Tyrion being the biggest character to die next week.

Edit:  Also one of the dragons.

A little fun fact for anyone who wants to know ..

Spoiler

The battle, (which looks to take place next episode) will be the largest battle ever committed to film, bigger than the Lord of the rings helms deep battle any bigger than any previous game of thrones battle. It took 55 nights to film.

Should be stunning, hope this is a 90 minute long episode.

Spoiler

BTW, one other thing to consider about Jon and Dany... Jon (I just can't call him Aegon) never wanted power. He'll take it if honor demands it, but he never sought it out. Dany... all she wants in life is that throne. Underestimating her desire for that power may be the worst thing to do, especially if she loses Jorah and Tyrion. She isn't as ruthless as Cersei, but she'll murder a bitch or two if she has to. You saw how she reacted to Sansa, and I don't think she is that attached to Jon, not only as representing the north that says it won't kneel but now with a claim to the throne, too. Either he folds like a chair or one of them dies.

He just isn't hardcore enough for what he's getting into.

I do believe ep3 is the first of the 90min episodes we're getting.
