Argh I wish i'd seen that, I only just a couple of weeks ago payed for my old one to be unlocked
Most unlock sites try to rip you off for the tune of ?20+ these days, so a week ago I went to Orange to get it, they still have't got it for me. Unlocked it now, so tomorrow I'm gonna call them and tell them to stuff it.

Luckily my code was pretty cheap off eBay, only about ?6 (T-Mobile originally)

Then you are SOL I'm afraid.

Edit* Forget to say I have finally joined the Oxygen crowd. I'm LOVING this ROM!

About time ;)

Love the ROM although I still have the random reboot and cycle problem with my phone I still stick with it.

...and the Desire line has been "refreshed" and it is hugely disappointing :(

I dunno I quite like the look of the new Desire S, front facing camera and unibody design. I still like my Desire, it does everything I've asked of it so far. The camera would be nice for Skype though.

  • 2 weeks later...

It looks like our Desires will be officially getting Gingerbread by the end of June (Y) Link

Great news for those of us who love the Sense UI too much to sacrifice it for a non Sense Gingerbread rom.

It looks like a sleeker Nexus One which is never a bad thing, if they had gave it some dual core love, increased resolution and possibly a trackball (Nexus One user who's became addicted to trackball alerts :p) I'd have picked one up for sure.

Just root and flash Cyanogen ROM.

I'm on nightly build #11 which is Android 2.3.3 and everything is super :D

golauncherex.png

Replaced LauncherPro (still installed, waiting for the re-write) with Go Launcher EX and it's superb with app tray folder management.

^Wow, I'm actually loving that launcher over LauncherPro. I've just tried it out and is has some great features. I just wish it we'd be able to move these types of apps to the SD Card. I'll have to remove Go Launcher EX for that exact reason :/

Hello

Two questions.

Question 1: Is there a ROM that will allow me to run what I have now (just the standard Sense, Android 2.2) but enable me to remove default applications? Can I always "un-root" the phone and set it back to whatever was there before, IE for when I am selling the phone on. Does rooting delete everything like messages and Facebook links and such? Or will a "Factory Restore" do this?

What are the benefits of rooting the phone?

Question 2: If I install the Google SDK or whatever it was and go through and change the settings so applications will install on the SD card by default; will ALL applications install on the SD card? Even those ones which have the "move to SD card" greyed out?

Thanks

Q1: Yes, this is the ROM you want. It is the standard ROM with no tweaks, just pre-rooted. You should be able to unroot by running an official RUU.

Rooting won't delete anything (flashing a ROM will though). It will simply give you root access to your phone (root = administrator).

I think if you need to ask for the benefits of rooting then you probably don't need to do it. But general the idea is to have more control over your phone, what it does, how it does, how slow/fast it goes.

Q2: I think you mean SDK. It would be easier for you to partition your SD card with a ext3 partition (use the Rom Manager app), and then install a ROM which supports A2SD+.

Q1: Yes, this is the ROM you want. . .

Thanks. Does that ROM support A2SD+?

I think I may put that ROM on the phone anyway as I have bricked the calendar :/

So, yesterday I noticed my calendar had entries from old facebook "friends" which I had deleted. So I tried every which way to refresh it and force it to realise it didn't have those friends added anymore, but it didn't have any of it. So I ended up clearing the data, but I thought it might be a good idea to Force Sto the application too.

Now when I have restarted the phone, only one entry shows; that's from last Friday when I know there are other birthdays coming up. It says it's still synced with Facebook, but I don't think it really is obviously. Even now, refreshing it won't download all the Facebook calendar entries.

Any advice?

Thanks. Does that ROM support A2SD+?
If you read the first post in the thread it covers everything. There are two versions of that particular ROM available. One that has A2SD+ support, and one that doesn't. You need to download and flash the A2SD+ the one, and then enable A2SD+ using the mod/script listed in the first post.

Sorry, yeah that was a case of asking before reading :(

How do I format to ext3 on the SD card?

Will rooting it enable me to uninstall the default applications? If so, is it just a case of uninstalling it from the menu like any other application?

Also, if I take a backup with the official HTC software, will it be all broken when I come to put all my contacts and such back on it?

I could just start again I guess :/

Still had no luck with the calendar. I'll probably try deleting the Facebook account, then adding it again.

Thanks

Go isn't that big tbh, you could check the /data/local/download app to manually clear any files in there, you will need root explorer or ES File Explorer with root options enabled to browse that folder. It saved me an extra 36MB as downloaded apps were still there.

    • Got it. Seem like a good improvement. Thanks. But, before we "Add the source to Trusted Sites," how would know if it is trusted or not? Could get messy for not first Knowing" it is clean. See what I mean?

    • I just started using Teams (and “New” Oiutlook) at work (instead of Slack) and both are truly abysmal pieces of software.
