Windows Live Essentials 'beta' out now!

Recommended Posts

EDIT: Just realised. That when using the social box. It updates the Little Message under your main name for others using Live 2010.

Another thing is that it shows only your Name for the main name bit. Nothing else. Like you could before... And Facebook update is not working :(

Dunno, will look. Another bug/feature.

In Compact (Old View) it does not let you use social. It looks more like 14.0. And use's them widget button things. In the leaked Milestone 2 build you could use social in Compact :(

This is the list of bugs/bad things so far:

*Status Box does not update Facebook

*The Main/Nickname feature you use now only displays your Full Name (And it shows what ever you used last to people using Wave 3)

*When you use the Status Box. It just updates the message under your name.

*On M2 you could switch to Have Social in the corner and Contacts big. But not anymore

* M2 let you use Social/Contacts on Compact view but now it is completely like Wave 3

Hoping for an update/beta 2.

I can't install the wave 4 beta!! I unistalled Wave 3 and everything, and this is the error I get:

http://i49.tinypic.com/29yrz8l.png

Any ideas why?

Thanks

I suspect it's having trouble downloading the app list from the internet... mines having a similar problem - it's failing to download anything and then just throwing up errors =/

An offline installer would be nice?

Damn, I didn't think it would be this buggy . Ended up uninstalling it.

I know it's beta, but this shouldn't be released to the public IMO. It's simply not ready for that yet.

I agree! It's way too buggy to be of beta quality... this is Alpha quality software.

Why do they even have the Ad in messenger still? they really need to remove it.. its just pointless :\

So true, the mac version of messenger is ad free, but Microsoft can't seem to be satisfied with the amount of ads in the windows version and keep adding more! :pinch: Thank God for A-Patch! I wish the A-Patch developer(s) the best of luck in ridding of these stupid ads!

are videos working for you in the social pane? and how do i update the social feed?

Videos, sort of.

Update - It does not have auto update :( You have to click Social again or whatever to get it to refresh. Here's open for a new build!

Loving Windows Live Wave 4 so far. The fluid animations throughout the apps are also looking great! What I dislike in WLM so far are the new toasts :p I've also noticed that Mail has become more responsive and faster compared with the previous leaked build. Means I'm back to using Mail again since it nicely integrates itself into Windows 7.

To make them some money...? It's not as if this software just comes out of them for free o_O

Are you serious? Microsoft? Money? There are a load of other Instant Messaging applications out there which don't have an advert in the contact list, or even in the Chat. Don't say well use those then, because i love Windows Live Messenger, its just it makes no sense for them to use adverts in the IM.

(copied from the front page)

Complaints:

- They removed the ability to edit profiles within the app. A lot of functionality has been instead moved to web pages on *.live.com.

- They're discontinuing customized names, which people have been using since the beginning. I've already used my first and last name for quite a while, so it doesn't bother me. Perhaps they're doing this to make it easier to merge Messenger's and Facebook's IM together.

- Speaking of Facebook, it's ridiculous how my fan pages are appearing as friends. Why is "AVATAR" a friend? Besides that, you can't hide offline Facebook contacts (and all fan pages are 'offline' contacts -_-).

I missed something here... so it can pull-in my Facebook feeds, but it doesn't connect to Facebook chat? Is this correct?

Can Pull-Facebook feeds, but can't update status in this build (No idea why :( ). And Facebook chat is not in this build due to MS saying it is a bit buggy and will be implemented later.

And Yeah, Live Mail works lovely! I love the smooth animations now and everything. Oh, also Live Movie Maker seems so much better now!

    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
    • Decentralized search result anonymization...
    • Russia invaded Crimea, so not sure what you are getting at. Are you saying that the E.U is like what the USSR was? What is wrong with wanting control over your own country? i bet Trump would not stand by and allow Canada to control the U.S.
