What's next? Ferguson going to be fined and suspended by the FA for throwing the game away to relieve himself of having to worry about another Cup that it is getting boring to win. No doubt this is flattering for West Ham fans. Get a reality check, you're bottom of the Premier League. Don't let it go to your head.

Although I fully realise above anyone else how bad West Ham is(in its current state) being a supporter for close to 12 years but you cannot in anyway disregard this win as a freebie "we couldn't be bothered" type game, both teams were in it to win it and West Ham did! 4 - 0 to be precise and I know that wasn't your full power squad and I don't care, those players in your B-Team are better then most players in all other leagues put together so this is a very significant win and I WILL let it get to my head just so I can then laugh at how we beat them 4 - 0 (Y)

Good show Hammers and Obinna was incredible that game! Really stood out to me as a very hard working intelligent player (Y) You can only improve from here :)

only people who care about the carling cup are the teams that are in it. if fergie did throw the game who cares, they have an EPL title to win this year (or are trying really hard to)

while it's great we destroyed aston villa without our core (no torress, gerrard or carragher) it's just that, villa sucks, like REALLY sucks. Nice goals by my boys though. Ngog's header (Y)

Alan Pardew is set to be named as the new Newcastle United manager within the next 24 hours, BBC Sport understands.

The former Reading, West Ham, Charlton and Southampton boss was among the favourites to take over from Chris Hughton, who was sacked on Monday.

Hughton led Newcastle back into the top flight last season but following his dismissal, the club said it wanted someone "with more experience".

Pardew, 49, has been out of work since being sacked by Southampton in August.

BBC Sport understands that Pardew, who is an associate of director Derek Llambias, was in talks with Newcastle about taking over at St James' Park as long as 10 days ago.
