What the hell is with turning threads into PC vs. Console?

Besides, regardless of what you spent on your PC, the second you've

built it the sheer number of games available to you is

overwhelming. I can play modern games, or games from over a decade

ago; I can play MMOs and first-person shooters online, or a plethora of

single-player games from ANY genre I choose. I can use a mouse and

keyboard, or hookup a controller and go to town. I can surf the internet,

view photos, appreciate some online pron art, use my computer for work

stuff like photo editing, web page development, Word documents, etc.

And I can do it all while watching How I Met Your Mother starring the

awesome Neil Patrick Harris on my unnecessary-for-gaming television.

No console can compete with that.

I can choose to play any game too? Unless you're referring to pirated games, then good for you. If I wanted a computer, I'd pay for a computer. I have dual monitors, one is for the console, one is for the PC. It's not that hard. You've just basically explained what a computer can do. That's absolutely wonderful for you. My computer can do all that too, minus the games, because I don't need to do all that while gaming, therefore, a dedicated console makes far more sense to me. When I need to do work, I do work. I don't need the system that I depend on to be a gaming machine, I certainly don't?want?it to be for gaming.?

That's like saying "you have a motorcyle? oh? does it have a cupholder? climate control? GPS navigation? power windows and locks? no? THEN IT CAN"T COMPETE OMG". Except, see, I have that motorcycle because all I want and need to do with it is get around.

You mean dedicated servers because since Valve decided to allow it, you're entitled to it now and every other game company in the world must obey that mandate? Or is it just because you're desperate to somehow put down consoles with any tactic possible?

No, I mean the fact that the game is limited by what the consoles can handle in every way. From textures to map sizes, player numbers, and so on.

Gun Game was stolen from counter strike and treyarch is taking ALL THE CREDIT, **** them. Any PC gamer knows gun game started with counter strike. The fact that you cant give another game / community credit for a "feature/mode/whatevre" that will make people(console gamers) love your game more, is sad. You can go suck a dick Treyarch, and a big FU to activision too.

can... which means when weather is permitting, then sure... you can drive. But

when the weather changes, you still need a car. I, however, do not ever need

a motorcycle just as I never need a console.

Activision confirms Black Ops voice talent – Gary Oldman returning from WaW

Activision’s announced some of the voice talent for Call of Duty: Black Ops, whilst also confirming a return for Gary Oldman. Oldman previously appeared in World at War as Russian WWII soldier Viktor Reznov, and will return for the Cold War-era shooter. Also confirmed for Black Ops is Apollo 13 actor Ed Harris, who will voice one of the main characters in the game, CIA agent Jason Hudson.

"Oldman, Harris and Goyer are considered some of Hollywood’s finest talents and they perfectly complement Call of Duty: Black Ops’ ambitious and immersive single player experience" said Treyarch boss Mark Lamia.

Activision’s also announced it has brought on Dark Knight writer David Goyer to "provide script consultation and story development support."

That's not relevent. The point is that the cost of my gaming experience does not include a whole computer. I only talked about the second monitor because I've had it for a long time and therefore I didn't need to buy something new. I had already gotten myself a decent sound system from very long ago, so my $300 system is still cheaper. I don't care if your PC can browse the web, I don't need my 360 to browse the web because my computer (which is pretty old) can already do that. ?I didn't ahve to pay throught he nose to upgrade my computer, I just got a standalone console and boom I was done.

...I?needed a gaming experience, I wasn't interested in paying a lot for it. Just like you couldn't drive a motorcycle in heavy weather conditions, you can't use a web browser on my 360, but the point is, you don't buy a motorcycle if you intend to drive in harsh weather, just as you don't buy an Xbox to browse the web and create Word documents. So no, my gaming experience still cost way less.

Nice to hear that they're bringing in quality voice actors. I never played the single-player in World at War, but in the multiplayer I loved hearing Kiefer Sutherland yell out "Bring in the dogs!!!".

I'm seriously thinking about getting this game now. I was dead set on ignoring it in favour of the other big name releases coming out this year (Halo Reach and GT5 being the most obvious ones), but I don't know. I'm yearning for some military arcade action, and it seems as though Treyarch is genuinely giving it their all with this one.

Pretty excited too :). I generally judge a game based on its quality once I play it rather than go off of speculation from people who think they know what it is. I'm more excited to see what the single player is going to be like, Multiplayer I'm sure will be excellent, and I'm not worried about it.

No we can have nice things. My point is, the Console community, as the PC community behind WAW/MW2/This Game arent really long time pc gamers/core gamers made me believe when they said community, it meant the console community.

Not "we give credit to the community" Oh yeah we mean you guys over there, the CS Community from PC that actually wanted CoD to not suck dick. Just like MW2, the PC Community was in an UPROAR trying to sign the petition and show the company how stupid they are for removing all the PC stuff like console/dedicated servers/recorder/etc.

But oh well, I guess im just being to specific and anal. I cant help it when ive been with CoD since 1 and own every game in mint condition. Gurrr. Im honestly disappointed the series died for PC. This game MIGHT bring it back, but thats a BIG MAYBE. If I gave BC2's half ass dedicated servers a chance(which work pretty good, but I still would like true dedicated support) then I can give this game a chance, thats if they do deliver MOD tools and not wait forever to release them.

Funny thing is, im getting a free copy from my boss. He went to his conference last week and got his copy of reach, and a few other games. He gets GT a week before it releases. Black Ops before it releases. LBP i think he gets when it comes into the store. All I know is, ill have the game, so Ill give it a chance IF they stick to there word and not at last minute "btw no mod tools and servers are gonna be locked down as ****, no configs. Just straight servers and control for kick/banning". Then Ill gladly give my copy away on neowin. For the PC btw, before i confuse someone.

So Rajput, sorry dude, ill move on. Just got tired of you constantly bring up "and the haters/flock will sworm in". Im not coming back to this game if even 1 inch of the game is off. I love and to this day play COD:MW. But MW2 never touched my PC. Actually got a free copy because I built a PC for someone and snapped it and threw it away. Hell the game was 2 dvd's. Really...

Dude, the point still stands. The "advantage" of the PC is that it can

do what any console can and more. If you want to get petty, the

PC can even emulate console games. So technically, I have the best

of both worlds with a PC. :)

Personally I feel I had my fill of Call of Duty after the last mashup of garbage.

I sold my copy first week I had it after the Javelin Glitch and Dual 18s.

This might look promising but, since what ive seen from other members just another MW2 Clone.

Killstreaks should only be in 3 slightly strong but not game winning things.

UAV, Air Strike, Helicopter. Bring just the 3 back and I'll buy it.

Till then this is just glorified "MW2" Getting rid of a few of my problems from last iteration.

I'll say it again, it's fecking impossible to discuss games with PC gamers anymore, they all take such a condescending point of view when it comes to console gamers, and when, god forbid, someone posts a legitimate point where the console holds the advantage, that suddenly makes THEM the bad guy/insecure/nerd rage.

Black Ops could turn out to be a really good game - but I am not comfortable at all with the whole "single trusted GSP" thing for the PC version or the use of VAC. Then again I am horribly biased on the anti-cheat thing.

EA had more than one trusted game server provider. That at least fostered competition etc. With a single game server provider (especially one that is not as widely known in the UK - gameservers.com) problems may arise with server load (GSPs are notorious for overselling their dedi server space) and customer service - things that are instantly alleviated with the possibility of choice between several providers. As it stands, a lot of GSPs are being left out in the cold with this move - something they are planning to fight through complaints to various government bodies etc. I won't pretend to know the legalities - but in a business as competitive as game server providers, this looks like a monopoly - a view shared by a number of other game server providers.

As for the whole "trusted" provider thing - I think that is a load of rubbish anyway. I have seen first hand how little that does to alleviate problems like cheating. I have worked for PBBans.com - the largest anti-cheat/punkbuster support site currently in operation, for a long time now, and witholding server files from the general public did nothing to stem the tide of cheaters in Bad Company 2 - the first game since BF2 to seriously champion the use of "trusted" providers to alleviate things like hacks and cheats. Within very little time, our cheat collection staff already had sources for downloading all of the server files necessary to host your own server at home - effectively making a mockery of the whole "trusted" system. Personally I see it as a DLC/mod control mechanism more than anything else - there will always be cheats, hacks and exploits in any game... and it should be fixed by good coding, Q&A and patching - not by taking things away that always used to be a standard in online gaming. On the PC platform anyway.

To be really honest - it does not affect me. I play in a small clan mainly for the company and the friends I make out of it - and I have not bothered with administrating a server for a long time. The only reason I am pretty butthurt about it is because I'm involved in a community that is very affected by it. If I wasn't involved with that community then I guess I wouldn't be bothered as much as I am. I just hope that Gameservers steps up to the plate and gets the job done.

The real reason I am being very cynical about this game is simple. I purchased MW2. Regardless of all the rage surrounding it etc, I pre-ordered it for the PC - and played it on release day. It was fun for some time, but as it went on I felt increasingly let down by Infinity Ward, Activision and the franchise itself. The fact that I felt burnt by MW2 has made me very cautious about this game. If it turns out to be awesome, and VAC works well enough - then I have no issue with eating my words and playing the game for myself. I am just waiting for the game to come out before I commit money to it.

What the developers need to realise is that the reason that the PC community is so outspoken about the issues with their games is because we care about them. We want to play them and get the most out of them we can. We want to give them our money. I think that if the community was silent - that would be a reason to be worried :p

It was about the gaming performance of the GPU, and we gave it an 8 out of 10. As a follow-up, similar to how we did with the 9070 XT and non-XT, we are doing a dedicated productivity review for the RX 9070 GRE as well, where we compare it against the 9070 XT, 9070, 7800 XT, as well as Nvidia's 5070 and 4070. AI performance, especially, is a very important metric in today's world, and AMD also promised big improvements thanks to its underlying architectural improvements. We now move on to our benchmarks. First up, we have Geekbench AI running on ONNX. For some reason, the 9070 GRE does exceptionally well here in both half-precision (FP16) and single-precision (FP32). It manages to beat the RTX 5070 and RX 9070 non-XT, and is only behind the 9070 XT. Since Geekbench runs in short bursts instead of continuously hammering the graphics card, it seems the GRE's faster boost clocks are helping here. Next up, we move to the UL Procyon AI test suite, starting with the image generation benchmark. We chose the Stable Diffusion XL FP16 test since it is the most intense workload available on Procyon. The Nvidia cards do very well here, as even the 4070 out-muscles AMD's best fairy easily. The positive thing about the GRE is that it gets quite close to the 9070 non-XT in this test; this indicates that the VRAM does not play a very big role here, as SD XL relies on float16 (FP16). So this is something to keep in mind again. If you wish to work with float32 AI workloads, graphics cards with larger than 12 GB buffers would likely emerge as victors. Regardless, the gains are still massive on AMD's 9000 series compared to the 7000 series. Following image generation, we move to the text generation benchmark. This is one test where the 9070 GRE struggled, quite a lot. It seems that the 12 GB VRAM and lower memory bandwidth of the new Radeon 9070 GRE are hurting it quite a bit; the split is massive, especially in a test like Llama2, which packs 13 billion parameters. As such, in all the tests, the 9070 GRE is the slowest of the lot. Next, we tried Blender, and here the AMD GPUs were beaten by Nvidia. Rendering is something the Green team has always had a lead over the Red side, and it has not changed so far. On the positive side, though, the 9070 GRE shows significantly better results than the 7800 XT, which means AMD is on the right path. Catching up to Nvidia, though, will require a lot more effort. And we hope HIP and ROCm can keep improving. Wrapping up AI testing, we measured OpenCL throughput in the Geekbench compute benchmark. The RX 9070 GRE alongside the 9070 did not fare well here at all, even falling behind the 7800 XT. Interestingly, even the RTX 5070 could not beat the 4070 on OpenCL, so perhaps this suggests that OpenCL optimization may not have been a priority for either AMD or Nvidia in the modern era. Conclusion We reached the end of our productivity performance review of the 9070 GRE, and we have to say it's a mixed bag. Unlike the 9070 and 9070 XT, the GRE excels in some areas while losing ground fairly easily in others. Similar to how it happened in gaming, any time the card's memory subsystem gets hammered, it tends to fall behind the others. This was the case with text generation, wherein we saw the VRAM sometimes hit its maximum available 12 GB of usage with larger model sizes. So what do we make of the RX 9070 as a productivity hardware? It can certainly be used, but you have to know it has its limitations. For those looking for a GPU that can deal with more, AMD recently unveiled the Radeon AI PRO R9700, which is essentially a 32 GB refresh of the 9070 XT with some additional workstation-based optimizations. On a similar note, the new Ryzen AI Halo platform is something you can consider if you want to set up a local AI processing station. Considering everything, we rate AMD's Radeon RX 9070 GRE a 7.5 out of 10 for its productivity performance. Price is less of a factor for those looking at productivity cases compared to those considering the GPU for gaming, and as such, we felt it did quite decently on many occasions and can be handy if you need a 12 GB GPU and, for some reason, don't want to get Nvidia.
