Mac OS X Lion Discussion

Recommended Posts

Yea doesn't look great, weren't they using the Mission Control background in the first preview we saw of Mac OS X Lion (keynote)? :/ That looked better.

No - they were using the current background :x But I agree the cloth texture sure does look good. I see Apple changing it before the final release (As they did with iOS)

But can you PLEASE stop posting like that?

Every single post that he does is like that, in the forums or on the front page news posts. Several people have asked him why, and he has never responded, as far as I've ever seen. I even posted a comment about it on his profile.

I've realised that unless an app is fullscreen enabled it appears as part of the finder in Mission Control and very much messes things up. That aside it seems pretty good.

EDIT: NM changed a setting.

What you're saying doesn't make much sense.

it makes perfect sense. That's what I thought at first and he's just confirming what I had in mind.

Also read the front page. Lion screwed up the bandwidth of the Mac App Store yesterday, imagine if it had been a whole 7-8GB download... It'll most likelybe bigger than SL because of added features as well as retina display pictures everywhere.

Apple didn't do it because Mac OS X Lion needs Mac OS X Snow Leopard from a technical standpoint (first part of his post), as if it's a The Sims expansion pack.

Distribution is the only reason why they chose this model. In the past developers could download the full DMG from Apple's Developer website and as far as I can recall there were no problems back then... You can ask yourself if it's a smart move to distribute through a system that sees enormous commercial traffic as well. Apparently not.

You're just confirming what I said then , and what he said. He didn't mean to say Lion relied on SL so it's going to stay an upgrade only forever. Naturally, it's for distribution purposes.

If Apple had opened their server farms already (which is happening in 2 months from now) the App Store would have survived easily to this.

Well it "IS" possible to use the DMG hidden in the package, to install (new install) on another partition or drive.

Could also restore the dmg to another partition(or usb key) and boot off that partition to install it. (MBA Owners)

I have a mid 2009 MacBook. Will the touch gestures work with it or is this just a MacBook AIR and Pro thing?

I don’t recall which model that is...

Do you have a glass trackpad with no button on it? If so, it’s all going to work, your trackpad supports multitouch gestures.

If you have a button at the bottom, you’ll need to upgrade to use this feature !

I can't remember for sure which model.. I want to say it's either EDIT: MacBook5,2 ?

Anyways, yea I have the one button. That's lame lol.

Oh well.

Ok guys, I upgraded my SL 10.6.6 installation with Lion. Everything seems ok and working fine (incl. my previously installed CS5 apps.)

EXCEPT for Safari, which open up like this:

Screen_Shot_02-2455618_at_17.07.38.JPG

Everything is fine with Camino or Chrome. My Font Suitcase works fine (the same goes for any font with office or InDesign).

Any idea?

Isn't there an option to enable the status bar? I'm really missing that... :/

Yes, there is. (I' just done installing it, hehe)

Wrong encoding.

Go to the Presentation menu in the top bar > Encoding > then select an encoding (can be UTF8, ISO Latin 1, etc.)

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with adblockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Opera Air'. It still has some bloat, but nowhere near as much as Brave browser, for example. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. I have a system wide Adblocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the the web browser, but over the whole thing. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt adblocker because of that.
