I am terrible at this game. Somehow, my squad who i'm right next to manages to stay alive, but i'll randomly get sniped from an unknown location, or a guy really far away will kill me (how do they even see me?!). I am just playing 32 player matches atm, as the 64 player matches just seem like absolute cluster ****s. Anyone have some tips on how to do better in this? I feel like i'm out skilled in both reaction time, and being able to spot people from very far away.

They see you because someone has spotted you. Ever see the little orange downward pointing triangle above soldiers heads? Orange indicates enemy, blue is for friendly. If you are on PC, press Q to spot people, vehicles, etc. (you have to see them first more or less) and if you are on consoles, I believe it is the select button (360) or back button (PS3) to spot.

Spotting vehicles and enemies is incredibly important not only for yourself, but for the team as well. You will also get bonus points if you spot a vehicle and/or person and someone else kills them.

Other than that, my advice would be similar to Muhammad's, staying in cover rather than being exposed is pretty important. Also short, controlled bursts while you are firing your weapons is essential. If you just spray-n-pray, you will get nowhere fast, as the weapons do have recoil, etc. I will actually change the rate of fire if I can just so it is either short controlled bursts or literally single fire. It really makes a big difference IMO.

Oh finally, play as a team player. Provide your support. Lay down that ammo, health, etc. And do not just focus on your squad, focus on your entire team. Look at the visual cues being shown next to people. Icons will appear next to people when they need something or make a request for something (also by holding down Q). Not only do you get points for doing so, but that is how your team wins, when everyone plays as a team. Showing you are playing for the team, especially while in a squad, means your squad members are that much more likely to have your back. So again, it really benefits everyone involved, not just yourself.

Damn work!! All this talk about the game makes me want to play it! LOL

Play some 16 or 20 person maps with TDM or Rush as the game type. Rack up some kills, gets some points, upgrades, and a rhythm going before you jump into the bigger game types. If your playing on PC, get used to the controls and be able to move fluidly and quickly before you play the larger maps. Crouch and go prone more often. Change up your weapon accessories depending on the map size and current situation.

So, what exactly is the purpose of SOFLAM? Only to mark, or does it actually send strike as the description says?

Because so far, I can only mark targets with it. And when the target is marked, what exactly does it bring to the battlefield?

SOFLAM is the best thing ever!!!

Me and my friend were trolling the Frogfoot on Rush, he marks it with SOFLAM and I shoot it down with the Javalin haha. Or you can use the Tanks alt. fire, guided shell to shoot down air vehicles.

It's epic!

Also, 3rd seat in Tank has a laser designator aswell, to shoot down air.

Note that if you play on an hardcore server, you cannot tag ennemies like this. :-)

Ugh. I suck. I'm horrible at this. I come from more of an Unreal/Quake background, so I get destroyed at the more realistic shooters. I think one of the things throwing me off is not being able to see my enemies. Everything is so vivid, with so many details that I can't see enemies at medium range. Usually it's too late when I spot an enemy. Good advice on playing smaller games, though. Helps you get better.

Just play TDM with 16-20 players.

It'll get you into the mechanics and try to stay in cover and lean out steadily, not instantly.

I haven't got motion assist ribbons yet because i haven't hit 5+ spotted, always less than 4 heh.

You got more than 5?

I think I have like 10 - 15 of these. Gotta use the MAV in the recon kit. I can find cover in a game, throw up my MAV and get 1500-2000 points through spotting, motion assists and destroying equipment. The ribbons are 200 points apiece at the end.

No, I just wasn't aware of how short the range on it is. It's like 10 feet, if that. Whatever the case it's still completely useless because the range is so small you'll be able to see anyone who it would spot anyways.

All in all the recon kit compared to bc2 is not nearly as interesting or dynamic. All the gadgets they've given the kit are based on the theory that you're not going to to be moving around. It's lame.

So far I play solely recon. It takes some getting used too and creativity. The two major unlocks are the SOFLM and MAV. I am still figuring out the SOFLM but the MAV is awesome but its use is specific. I will play as recon, sniping spotting and moving to unattended points to capture. If anytime during the match I feel my team needs a little edge I throw up the MAV, It will quickly turn the tide of a battle, especially if I am playing against an enemy that has no clue about it.

damn you BF3 players... BC2 population is next to dead now :( couldn't find a single vietnam game last night. HURRY UP AND GET TO STEAM ALREADY!!!!!

(if this game got to steam before MW3 did i would have a coin to toss to chose which one to buy...)

Dont wait man, I too am a Steam guy but truthfully Origin and Battlelog are not that bad, and they are not near bad enough to miss out on this game.

Yeah, I love steam but I don't get people insistance to only use it. Granted Origin is a piece of **** program but Battlelog isn't that bad, except for my pages not loading as they should but I think that's a problem on my end.

Probably is. Battlelog works perfectly here. I use it on IE 9, and use firefox 8 for my normal browsing.

I use battlelog on chrome and it works perfectly. I can open multipe tabs and browse while I am playing the game. I didn't like that at first but it's actually nice. For example, I can leave battlelog on a tab and jump on Neowin, check mail and even watch movies. A friend logs on and I can instantly create a party without even loading the game. It's different but it works for me!

I have hear rumors of a "crack" that lets people run BF3 bypassing origin and going straight to battlelog, but i shall not say anything about where I heard such rumors. I dont see the point in bypassing it since origin hasnt hurt me in anyway but some people might think its useful to them.

Yeah ... well you need origin to update the game, so ...

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for Dark Scrolls, Empulse, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The final update of June for Nvidia's cloud gaming service GeForce NOW is now available, and it is touting support for six more games. The company is also drawing subscriber attention towards the summer sales kicking off across stores, so they can stock up on more cloud-supported titles. Of course, the Steam Summer Sale is the biggest promotion, which is kicking off later today. "Supported Steam games can be streamed across devices with GeForce NOW, making it easy to buy a game once, keep progress synced and pick up where the gameplay left off on PCs, Macs, handheld devices, phones, TVs and more," says the company. "In other words, the Steam Summer Sale brings the deals; GeForce NOW adds the flexibility." Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active as well. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Dark Scrolls (New release on Steam, available June 22) SAND: Raiders of Sophie (New release on Steam, available June 22) Deer & Boy (New release on Steam, available June 23) EMPULSE (New release on Steam, available June 24) The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (Steam) FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (Steam) With the June expansions coming to an end, Nvidia should be announcing its July GeForce NOW plans next week. Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.
