This is a great idea. Why have three separate threads? Mozilla is confusing me enough. :whistle:

Lol why blame mozilla? Its by me and erm i am the one who should be blamed? :s

If you create a thread for each thing like that won't it start spreading the discussion a little thin?

if we go by

Firefox (Nightly & Aurora together) and Firefox (Stable) threads , then Nightly & Aurora will involve discussions about latest landings , etc , while Stable will deal with problems , how tos , addons etc etc in just FINAL builds.

What say??

Firefox (Nightly & Aurora) and Firefox (Stable) Threads

(about pre-release builds) and (about final builds)

No, I think it's a fine to have a separate thread for the release version. That way, users of the stable version will not be confused and can easily post their queries there. The pre-release versions though (5,6 or whatever) should only have one thread since with the rapid updates (those are pre-releases), "web browser discussion" might turn into just "firefox discussion". On the pre-releases thread, maybe try and advise users to post whichever channel/version their using :)

Edit: oops, you beat me to it

so what is the final conclusion?

To make Meet Firefox X.0 as X.0 releases , while have one thread which involves just Firefox Pre-Release Discussion ?

MODS please you are needed here :s

(btw right now its so irritating to check two threads at same time :|)

If we have a thread for the Nightly and Aurora build channels, and maybe a discussion thread created when the final release gets pushed out. That would probably be fine. It's how Opera's threads are managed.

What I mean is as soon as a final version is released, a thread is created.

So :

Create Meet Firefox X.0 when X.0 releases

and have Firefox (Nightly and Aurora) as primary discussion thread for PRE RELEASES of firefox

is it fine?

with that said , we gotta leave this thread for just firefox 5.0 and rename firefox 6.0 thread as just firefox (nightly and aurora) having all firefox nightly and aurora discussions , is it alright ?

We could just get the 5.0 and 6.0 threads merged, the title of the merged thread renamed, and have any major release thread posted. So when say, Firefox 4.2 releases, post the thread 'Firefox 4.2 Out Now' or something like that.

okay!

i think its very safe option , MODS please merge Meet Firefox 6.0 into this thread , rest can be handled by us

Screenshot of Aurora:

I quite like the artwork.

Thats so awesome!! :D

Will that update normally (I mean it's not 'overwrite another version to update')?

Also, this is the only thing I need, right? --> "firefox-5.0a2.en-US.win32.installer.exe"

I do not have any experience on using ftp builds so enlighten me :)

it will update to aurora builds as soon as they are out , you can change your channel to beta or release to get latest beta (none ATM) or to latest release (ff4)

I wish they would've kept the build dates on the About dialog. I know you can find out elsewhere, but it was convenient.

It won't overwrite your FF4.0 or Nightly installation if that's what you mean. And yes, that installer is all you need.

okay!

erm , since firefox 5.0 is gonna be out soon , so lets forget this merging thing for time being , i am renaming Firefox 6.0 thread to Meet Firefox Next and it will be used for all pre release version discussion, use this thread for only firefox 5.0 discussion , when firefox 6.0 will be released , new thread for 6.0 will be created , and Meet Firefox Next will remain unaffected. Now please dont change this plan , m so tired of changing plans and doing nothing to be exact :s

Finally : This thread will be used for firefox 5.0 discussion only , use Meet Firefox Next for nightly etc discussion

But can I use it side by side with the stable version (similar with how minefiled used to be)?

you gotta make separate profiles and install in different directories

I'm not sure if it reflects anything, but the newest version of the Firefox Nightlies is 6.0a1. Mozilla must really be preparing for a very aggressive new release system; here's hoping they can do it. I know I'd love Firefox to maintain its current position in the world of web browsers.

I previously used this code to shrink the height of tabs in Fx4:

.tabbrowser-tab, .tabs-newtab-button {
 -moz-border-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/tab.png") 5 3 3 3 / 5px 3px 3px 3px repeat stretch !important;
}

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work too great in Fx5. Would appreciate some help with it, thanks.

Im using portableapps versions labeled as nightly, but now i dont know which one it is lol... But anyway, i think its much better solution than downloading installers or zip packages from bottomless Mozilla servers. Such a pity that you cant run it simultaneously without editing environment variables.

    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.

    • We do it all the time on our IT Service desk mailbox to add a reference, in the subject line, once it's been logged and then it's filed into the appropriate sub-folder. Other companies probably do the same thing.
    • "No. The "New Outlook for Windows" does not support non-cloud mailboxes (such as on-premises Exchange servers). Furthermore, because the New Outlook effectively functions as a web-based client, it requires all connected accounts—even standard IMAP or POP accounts—to route and cache data through Microsoft's cloud servers. You can verify the accepted account setups using the Microsoft Supported Account Types Guide." Built to fail "New" Outlook is basically just webmail in a window wrapper and it's usefulness reflects that.
