Argh, another version bump, another boolean to be added to re-enable extensions.

Has anyone done it yet for the Nightly 7.0a1? I tried adding extensions.checkCompatibility.7.0a1 but it didn't re-enable them. Booleans for extensions.checkCompatibility.7.0 extensions.checkCompatibility.7.0a and extensions.checkCompatibility.7.0b were also there but I didn't add them  Has anyone managed to disable extension compatibility checking yet?

Yes.

If your on nighly builds in about:config add the new hidden-pref:

extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly add as a boolean entry and set it to 'false' restart browser. Now as long as your on nightly builds you won't have to worry about bumps ever again...

NOTE: This does not preclude that addons still may break, or even break the browser.

Thank you for the new extension compatibility Boolean for nightly!

I hope Flow for Firefox gets updated to work properly, something seems to have broken it and it barely works now. also Stratiform is a little broken too but I am aware a new version is in the works anyway :)

Is it just me, or was there no update for Aurora today? Anyone know why?

If things go according to plan, updates should be available in a couple of hours (noon, PDT). I wonder what Aurora users will need to do to force add-on compatibility.

Right now, I have this in about:config ...

extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0a;false

Install the Mozilla Add-on Compatibility Reporter - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/

In these FF5 betas, should we have the ability to change update channels? I've tried changing from FF5 beta 3 to Aurora, but nothing happens. When changing from Aurora to another channel it works fine.

As mentioned here or somewhere else, the channel switcher is going to be trashed.

Aurora is quite decent and you just download it afresh (https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/). It will install over the beta and use your existing settings.

For add-ons, you could use the ACR or create:

extensions.checkCompatibility.6.0a;false

in about:config

7.0a1 performance in v8, sunspider and kraken is lower compared to the 6.0a1 builds. Anyone else notice this?

Yes I have noticed it. As a matter of fact on several sites I have noticed the Aurora to be noticeably faster rendering the pages than the latest Nightly

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
