Amazon's latest Fire HD 8 tablets start at $59.99 today only

Amazon refreshed its Fire HD 8 tablets last month, but the new devices are already getting significant discounts. Every model is $30 off, and the base model starts at $59.99 today only.

Amazon's refreshed Fire HD 8 tablets were announced just last month, with shipping starting on June 3, but they're already getting a pretty hefty discount. Every model of the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Plus is $30 off for today only.

The two models have a lot in common, with an 8-inch HD display, a quad-core 2.0GHz processor, and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The main difference is the RAM, with the Fire HD 8 having just 2GB and the Fire HD 8 Plus taking it up to 3GB. Both models promise a 12-hour battery life, and both support USB Type-C charging, but the Fire HD 8 Plus also supports wireless charging. There's a charging dock you can get in a bundle with the Fire HD 8 Plus, but the bundle isn't discounted and currently not available.

With the discounts, the base model Fire HD 8 - with 32GB of internal storage and with Amazon's special offers on the lock screen - starts at $59.99 instead of $89.99. Meanwhile, the Fire HD 8 Plus starts at $79.99 instead of $109.99, making it even cheaper than the regular Fire HD 8.

If you're buying the tablet for a child, there's good news on that front, too. The Fire HD 8 Kids Edition is actually $40 off, making it $99.99 instead of $139.99. The Kids Edition includes one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited and a "kid-proof" case to protect it from drops and bumps, but is otherwise based on the regular Fire HD 8.
