Borderlands 3 officially announced, featuring multiple planets and a billion guns

After perhaps years of teasers and hints, Gearbox Software today confirmed Borderlands 3 at PAX East. Although the live reveal itself was rather botched due to some technical problems, check out the issue-free full trailer above.

The studio did not reveal much related to the highly-anticipated title other than the trailer and saying the game will take place across multiple planets. We still don't know the release date or platforms the studio is targeting. 2K Games will once again be handling the publishing duties.

The trailer itself did have plenty of Borderlands to observe and absorb, however. We get to see a range of returning characters from previous games, including ones like Brick, Lilith, and a grown-up Tiny Tina from the main series and even popular characters like Rhys from Telltale's spin-off Tales from the Borderlands. Of course, Claptrap is returning as well.

We also get to see the new Vault Hunters that players will be handling this time, as well as the villains. Sticking to its roots, Borderlands 3 will feature "one billion guns," and even showed off a gun with legs. We will have to wait and see if Elon Musk's flamethrower will actually make it into the game as promised.

Gearbox says it will have more to reveal about Borderlands 3 on April 3.
