Chinese version of Microsoft Store site launches for Surface sales

When Microsoft started taking pre-orders for the Windows RT version of the Surface tablet earlier this week, the company announced that the tablet would be available for sale to Chinese residents online. However, at that time there was no Microsoft Store website that was based in China.

That has now changed with the official debut of the Windows Store site today for Chinese residents. At the moment, the only two Microsoft product lines in the Chinese store are for Office and, of course, the Surface tablet. The price for the 32 GB Surface version without the Touch Cover is RMB 3688. The 32 GB version with the Touch cover is selling for RMB 4488 and the 64 GB versions with the cover has a price of RMB 5288 on the Chinese site.

While Microsoft does not have physical Microsoft Stores in China, as they do in the US and (soon) Canada, rumors are that the Surface tablet will also be sold in China via the Suning retail chain. It will be interesting to see what the reaction will be to the Windows RT tablet from the massive Chinese market.
