'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition' buyers will get all franchise games for free

Buyers of "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" for Xbox One will be given all previous entries in the franchise if they play the game before the end of the year, Microsoft announced today.

Buyers of "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" for Xbox One will be given all previous entries in the franchise if they play the upcoming remake before the end of the year, Microsoft announced today, with the games being provided via the console's backwards compatibility feature.

Microsoft has announced that buyers of "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" will receive all four of the franchise's previous games – "Gears of War," "Gears of War 2," "Gears of War 3" and "Gears of War: Judgment" – for Xbox One, and each of those games will be playable on Xbox One "this fall" when supported with the console's backwards compatibility feature. To be eligible for the offer, buyers must play "Ultimate Edition" this year between its Aug. 25 launch and Dec. 31.

The games will be provided via download, meaning users will be able to select them from their Xbox One games and apps library for installation when backwards compatibility launches later this year.
