Google Maps update for iOS and Android lets you “save and share your favourite places”

An update to the Google Maps app for users of Android and iOS now makes it possible add your favourite locations to pre-set or custom lists which can be saved and shared for others to follow.

An update for the Google Maps iOS and Android apps now includes the ability to create, share and follow lists of specific locations.

Locations can also be added to pre-set lists such as “Want to Go” or “Favourites” as well as custom lists that you can name yourself. Lists can also be shared through text messages, social media and messaging apps. You can also follow lists that have been shared with you, and these are added to your list of places.

To create a list, open the Google Maps app and search for the place that you want to save. Tapping “save” gives you the option to add the location to pre-set lists, or to a custom list. When you download maps for offline viewing, places that you have added to lists in that area will be visible on the map.

Google’s video demonstrating the new feature can be viewed below:

This comes after a previous update to the Google Maps app for Android, which improved glance information. Google Maps is available to download from the Google Play Store, and Apple’s App Store.
