Hacker releases episodes of "Orange Is the New Black" after failing to receive ransom

A hacker going by the name "The Dark Overlord" has released episodes from the upcoming season of "Orange Is the New Black" after his ransom demand on Twitter was ignored by Netflix.

Netflix is due to release the fifth season of its successful drama series, Orange Is the New Black on June 9. However, a hacker has already released ten episodes of the series after Netflix failed to pay a ransom.

The hacker, known as "The Dark Overlord" is said to have possession of unreleased seasons of various series obtained from a single company, and promised to release all the content if a "modest" ransom is not paid. Initially, the hacker uploaded a single episode from the fifth season of Orange Is the New Black as a warning. Failing to receive the demanded ransom, the hacker uploaded ten episodes from the series.

Netflix has revealed that an investigation of a data breach from one of its production vendors by the FBI is underway. Few Twitter users have claimed to have downloaded the leaked episodes from The Pirate Bay, but the authenticity of the content still remains questionable. In any case, Netflix will need to address the situation immediately, as we have seen similar breaches get worse in the past.
