Hands-on with the first Creators Update preview for the Xbox One

Earlier this week, Microsoft released the first Creators Update preview for the Xbox One. At the same time, the company opened up the Xbox Insider Program to system updates, so it won't just be former Preview Program members that receive them.

There are four rings, and this build, 15009, was released to Alpha, the least stable of them. The rest of the rings will be populated over the next several weeks.

The Creators Update for the Xbox One contains a number of major UI changes though. Pressing the Xbox button on your controller no longer brings you to Home; instead, it brings you to the Guide. Microsoft says that this is intended to get you where you need to go while performing fewer actions, but this simply isn't the case if you're going to the Home screen.

Of course, the Guide should provide shortcuts to where you need to go without ever needing Home. In a future update, you'll even be able to use it to stream to Beam. You can also use it to take a screenshot, or record a clip of a game of up to five minutes.
