Here's a quick run down of the iPhone X before pre-orders open at 12:01am PT

This is it. After being barraged by post after post of rumors. leaks, and sitting through the official unveiling - the iPhone X is almost here. Just in case you had forgotten, we at Neowin, are here to remind you that pre-orders will start promptly at 12:01am PT on October 27. industry insiders have estimated that stock of this model will be relatively low, which could make it one of the trickiest handsets to obtain this year. So, as a last hurrah, we've put together a post that will give you some information about the phone, what your options are for purchasing or leasing the device.

The iPhone X was announced a month ago during Apple's September event alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. This year is special because, for the first time, the firm is launching three versions of the iPhone. While the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus look similar to past models, the iPhone X has a more futuristic appearance thanks to its unique display that offers a near bezel-less look.

As far as specifications go, the iPhone X offers:

  • 5.8-inch Super Retina HD OLED display with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels
  • A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture featuring a Neural engine and an embedded M11 motion coprocessor

  • 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras with 7MP front-facing camera

Perhaps one of the more polarizing things about the new iPhone is that it will do away with the Touch ID sensor that has become a staple on its handsets and will be replaced by Face ID. This technology will use special sensors in the front of the phone that will capture a user's face and allow for secure unlocking of the device, while also authorizing Apple Pay transactions.

While it remains to be seen whether this can really replace Apple's Touch ID, for iPhone X adopters, this will become a new way of life when it comes to unlocking the handset or paying with Apple's payment system. If this quick blip about the phone isn't quite enough for you, it would be a great idea to head to the Apple website, which is now fully committed to educating, as well as enticing visitors about the iPhone X.

So now that you're possibly interested, what options do you have in obtaining this device? Perhaps the most universal and international method would be to head to the Apple Store at 12:01 am on October 27. This can be done either through the website on your computer or, if you have an iOS device, you can download the Apple Store app. The phone will be available in two colors, Silver and Space Grey, and will also come in two sizes, a 64GB model, that will cost $999, and a 256GB variant that will set you back $1,149. With Apple, you can either pay in full or take advantage of their iPhone Upgrade Program, that will allow you to make monthly payments on the device and upgrade each year to the latest model.

You will also have the option to make payments on these units through the wireless carrier of your choice. This can be done through the Apple website as well, but will also be available as an option when purchasing directly from the carrier of your choice. Unfortunately, there are too many carriers globally to list in this post, but we have listed some of the major carriers in the United States like AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon, just to give you an idea of pricing.

Now, that all of that is out of the way, it's up to you whether you feel the need to have an iPhone X in your life. Again, pre-orders will start at 12:01am Pacific Time on October 27. If you aren't lucky enough to snag one online, you'll also have another chance on November 3 by heading to your local Apple retail location.
