KDE Plasma 6.4.5 is now available, delivering the usual round of bug fixes and improvements, with a significant portion of them aimed at KWin.

KDE Plasma 6.4.5, the fifth bug fix release for version 6.4, is now live, addressing bugs in different components like KWin, Discover, and Dr. Konqi.

Starting with KWin, the window manager had about 19 bug fixes in total. One of the more noticeable ones deals with a visual glitch in the System Settings task switcher preview. This bug made the text render in black, so you could not read it against a dark theme. The preview now correctly uses your Plasma theme's colors.

Another major fix squashes a Wayland bug that caused external monitors to wake up on their own just seconds after being put to sleep. The problem was traced to the DRM backend, which was not correctly ignoring disabled outputs when checking the Display Power Management Signaling state. The devs also addressed an issue where the maximize animation could end on a different frame from other animations, creating a slight visual stutter.

Moving on to Plasma Desktop, the team fixed an issue in a panel's edit mode, where if you pressed the escape key while your cursor was still over the panel, nothing would happen. You had to move the cursor away for it to work.

Another fix was for the Kicker application launcher. A weird bug would prevent any search results from showing up if you had removed all the favorite apps from the sidebar. You could type "Firefox" and get nothing.

Plenty of other components got some love in this release. The Dr. Konqi crash reporter was patched to fix an unguarded use of the Sentry SDK. The Info Center got a fix for a bug where it would always report that Nvidia drivers were not loaded, even when they were.

The Discover software center had a small problem where the "delete settings" button would stay grayed out when you reopened a message. That no longer happens. Even the Plasma NetworkManager was improved with a fix for a memory leak.

Version 6.4.5 also brought small changes like better handling for camera devices in the device notifier applet and a fix for indented streams in the Plasma Audio Volume Control applet, which improves the layout.
